Wicked

The Musical

The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz

It's making a million a week in New York. Now, says Matt Wolf, 'Wicked' is the hottest ticket in a packed West End autumn of musicals.

When it first opened, no one expected Wicked to become a Broadway phenomenon. Yet four years later, Wicked is enjoying a British debut in a £7 million West End production. It previewed at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre, the musical has an international cast that included Menzel as Elphaba, the green-skinned teenage witch at the show's breathless heart.

I've seen it once in Boston and I saw the original cast in NYC .. that was crazy.
Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel are effing amazing and they light up that show. I have loved Idina since I got into RENT about 5 years ago.. so when they said she was staring in this show I had to see it.

I love "Popular" cause its such a cute Kristen song.. <3 Defying Gravity is great too though.. I like alot of the songs and the story is the best. Its crazy how they have the "untold story of OZ" and how they were friends.. the best of

Thanks for the add!

Personally, "No One Mourns the Wicked" is my favorite song. I love the energy and the harmonies are just amazing.

I think we should correct some of the info in the first post though. The show opened in October of '03 so it's been a little over four years since it opened, and Kristin and Idina weren't unheard of when the show opened. Kristin was hugely famous on Broadway and had TV and Movie credits, and Idina, though not as famous as Kristin, had Rent, Aida, and I think The Wild Party and See What I Wanna See to her credit when she joined the show.

I love wicked. I have not read the book. is it better than the play? i heard the book was dirty

The book, in my opinion, cannot compare to the musical. Maguire has very droning, monotonous, detailed writing. It was tedious and I had to force myself through most of it. And yes, there are disturbing sexual scenes. I am very thankful that Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman deviated so much from his original story to give us the musical we have today.

I read the book after seeing the show.. I still dont know how I feel about the book, whether I liked it or not. I am kind of glad that I saw the show first, because if I hadnt, I may not have went to see it. Its VERY different from the musical

I saw Wicked in Los Angeles on Saturday night and I really enjoyed it. My sister had seen it on her first night in London over the summer when she studied abroad. She liked it so much she saw it a second time while she was there and ever since she's been back home she's been telling me I should see it sometime because she really loved it. I'm really glad I went....great show that I would definitely recommend people check out :)

*hugs thread* - I don't care if I only posted on it a few times :P.

So, yeah Wicked.
Amazing<3.

I'm in love with the song 'Thank Goodness' at the minute.
Kristin's laugh after 'lets have a celebration, the Glinda way' is ADORABLE.

Fiyero3305
04-06-2008, 04:52 PM
Not for a while. It definitely will be eventually, I mean Universal Studios is producing the show, but with how quickly it sells out every night they won't be making a movie for a lon time.

I watched it again on the second of April!

It was way better than the first time, we had Kerry Ellis was AMAZING! She'll be coming to Broadway after June 9th, so you guys should look out for her there, she's Elphie of course.

We didn't have Dianne Pilkington, but Sarah Earnshaw was amazing too, and Oliver Tompsett was an AMAZING Fiyero ( not to mention hot!)

My opinion on my favourite songs has changed since seeing it too, As Long As You're Mine is my favourite now, followed by No Good Deed, but all in all it's just amazing all round!

Oh and iwatched Enchanted last night, (just thought i'd mention since Idinas in it) and she was reallly great!

Well, I saw the show in Chicago a few weeks ago and it was sooo good! I saw Annaleigh Ashford as Glinda and Jennifer DiNoia as Elphaba.

x-fallenstars-x
07-14-2008, 01:28 PM
Wow, i've no idea who they are but i expect they were amazing! I really hope someone from here goes to see Kerry Ellis on Broadway, she's amazing guys. She was the original Meat in WWRY, which i love :)

I finished the book a while ago.. It was very different from the musical but still good, though i prefer the musical.

Fiyero3305
07-14-2008, 01:31 PM
They're great, Annaleigh just finished playing the role on Broadway and Jennifer has been the understudy in Chicago for years. Neither of them were my favorites, but they were still fantastic.

Yeah the book, I really didn't like it at all.

x-fallenstars-x
07-14-2008, 01:36 PM
Aww good, i like to know their being played by really god people everywhere<3

&You didn't? I think having seen how fantastic the musical is.. The book is a let-down. But i still think it was such a good idea. But i hate how Fiyeros married and.. God i just love the more romantic portrayal of him i nthe musical. And the end is different in the book.

Musical is a lot better.

Fiyero3305

I actually thought Gregory Maguire's writing was really boring, but that was just his style that I didn't like, I think the story itself was pretty good.

x-fallenstars-x
07-15-2008, 05:17 PM
The beginning - about te Quadling and her mother is extrememly boring, but once that's over ans they get to school, it picks up a little.

Though i still can't say it's my favourite book ever.

Wicked is definitely on my list of Broadway shows to see, along with Phantom and Little Mermaid. I've liked a lot of the songs from the show, and it just seems like it'd be fun.

x-fallenstars-x

It's extremely good.

A friend of mine in my class keeps trying to get the end out of me as she's listened to the soundtrack but of course you can't get the end out of that, i refuse to ruin it for her though!

I saw the first night where Julia Murney did Elpheba. She was fantastic. It also featured the current Broadway Guh-Linda - Cassandra Kessenbaum (or something like that). It seemed like she was doing a Chenoweth imitation but she was certainly talented. I like Wicked because I saw every one of my dollars. It's a helluva production and it really holds the attention. The end is a cheat, of course but that's the way it goes.

Fiyero3305
08-23-2008, 09:51 PM
lol, Kendra Kassebaum! I saw her too, in Pittsburgh with Stephanie J. Block (who is completely amazing) as Elphaba. They were my second pair and Stephanie is easily my favorite Elphaba.
