Alright! So I just, just, finished Prince Caspian and I am very happy I have the opportunity to write this review because after just finishing it I have a lot to say about it.
Overall, I would describe it as interesting. It definitely had an interesting plot I am just not sure if I am a fan on how it was executed.
The plot is fairly simple: When the four Pevensies come to Narnia, they discover hundreds of years have passed since they last ruled in Narnia after they find their old, abandoned castle, "Cair Paravel". After befriending a dwarf, he tells them the tale of "Prince Caspian" who is the true ruler of Narnia. It turns out, the Telmerines --the men of the new Narnia-- banished and killed almost all talking animals and creatures and the Telmerines now rule Narnia. Prince Caspian's uncle is the main villain of the tale and after having a son for who he wishes to be king, orders for Prince Caspian's death. The tale follows as the Pevensies try to help Prince Caspian become king and help the creatures become part of Narnia once more.
I really did like the idea of the plot, but one of the problems I had with the book was that it was so short! The book is barely over 100 pages and while C.S Lewis did write the story fine, I think it could have been better with more detail.
The Pevensie's are pretty much the same as in LWW. Edmund is a bit nicer to the other siblings and doesn't cause as much trouble but other than that there was not much difference, which was sort of a pity. I kind of wanted a bit more development from the characters. Miraz as the villain does not compare to the White Witch at all. The white witch screamed evil on every line while Miraz as the villain seems pretty weak in comparison. However, in Miraz' defense, The White Witch did have a larger role in LWW than Miraz in PC.
I really did enjoy the introduction of Prince Caspian's character; he seemed nice and quite likable. I couldn't help comparing the book to the trailer and information on the PC movie we received and it seems very… different. For one PC is a kid in the book while in the movie he looks like he is in his twenties. I am sorry I cannot explain this better, but in the book PC is very awestruck of the four Pevensie siblings while in the trailer he seems very…"I am Prince Caspian" I am sorry, I can't really explain that.
Apart from my complaints, PC has some great parts. There is a great scene where Edmund duels off with the dwarf with his sword and Susan duels with him with her bow .I really, really, liked this part because I found it fun to read. My favorite scene of PC is quite spoilerish so I won't write in detail but it involves Peter and Miraz for those who have read it.
Overall, I did enjoy PC though I do believe I enjoyed LWW as a book more. That's it! My review is finished!
