OLD THREAD (http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38886)

The old thread was hugeee, so I think we need a new one! :)

I'm reading Full Moon Rising by Keri Arthur right now. It's an odd book about vampires and werewolves, a bit like like Twilight, only a lot more raunchy. I turned a friend onto the Twilight series and in turn, she lent me this series. It's amazing so far! It's a bit fun, because the vampires are gross and smelly in this, while the werewolves are the more civil ones. Lots of "mating", but it's a good book.

"Full Exposure" by Diana Duncan. It's part of a Harlequin series, set on a cruise ship. They're all different stories, tied together by a bit of a mystery thread. The series has a book a month for a year, which is kind of a neat concept. The books themselves are uneven, as far as how interesting the stories are, but this one is going to tie up one of the major mysteries that's been going on through the whole thing, so it's pretty good.

Is The Gold Compass good? There's a lot of contradictions about that book and the movie of it.

Twilight, the Vampire book? I've got that, gotta get through like 6 books first though.

Eh, honestly, I don't really like it. But apparently, if your into fantasy and Lord of the Rings type thing, then you should go for it. But as what I heard about the comparison of the book and movie, TOTALLY different. The movie supposibly cut out the good parts from the book.

And yes.. Pretty much the same here. But I'm going to try my best to read it alongside with the others because I hear the book is just amazing. The Golden Compass is from my English class and Jumper is for my Astronomy class and then I have to write a 10 page essay on it. RIDONKULOUS!

Okay.. I'm not gonna go anywhere near Golden Compass then - I fell asleep watching LOTR on movie, and I read one sentence of the first book and I just gave it straight back to my friend.

Unlucky about the essay, here we get essays where we have limits of no more than like 8 pages or we fail automatically.. Which is kinda weird but it's okay for us XD

I just bought Our Story Begins by Tobias Wolf. I don't usually buy short story collections, but I heard him interviewed on NPR and it sounded interesting.

Chloe - if you like supernatural books you might try the Charles DeLint books. He is pretty good. Try the Newford series - he mixes together all kinds of mythologies (Celtic, Native American, etc.) It matters if you get the order right though - he has a website that lists them.

"700 Sundays" by Billy Crystal. It's a memoir of his growing up years (he figured 700 Sundays is all the time he really had with his dad before he passed) and it's written very much in the same style that he speaks. That probably has to do with the fact that he did a one-man show on the topic as well. It's very interesting, not laugh out loud funny so far, but fascinating and they do bring a smile to the face, some of his stories.
