It really seems like only a small percentage of books that get made into feature length films can actually stand up to it's original paper version. I guess it's a combination of poor directing and some stories just not translating well onto film? what are some you think were extremely well done?

Fight Club was extremely well done. No way around that. I think Ghost World also really captured the characters and story from Clowes' comic. I read that Memory Keeper's Daughter has been made into a film. I read that ages back, could work as a movie... we'll see.

Sometimes they try to keep too much of the book. It is better to make a good movie than to try to be too faithful to the book. If the movie is good then it will make people want to hit the bookstore for the original.

I really liked "The Other Boleyn Girl," now I want to read the book. Does anyone how they compare?

Ghost World was fantastic, I really need to pick up that DVD. I'm a huge Clowes fan and was really pleased with how that came together. Memory Keeper's Daughter I think will come together really well (I LOVED the book). It's on Saturday on Lifetime, certainly worth checking out.

yea Virgin Suicides was pretty decent. I liked Memory Keeper's Daughter, but a lot was changed from the book. I was able to appreciate it as a separate presentation of the story though.

I don't have cable, so I couldn't watch it. I heard it's a good book though. Maybe I'll take it out of the library.

'Silence of the Lambs' is a good example.

Somtimes the movie is better than the book. I tried reading The Wizard of Oz with my daughter after we saw the movie and we didn't make it all the way through.

too often extraordinary books just don't do well on film... When you're reading a book, the exact setting & the way the people look are left to you to decide... and it's extremely rare for 2 people to read a story and 'see' things exactly the same way or even as they were intended...

I think Hannibal Rising was very well done.
Of course, the book was better, in the sense that it was more detailed and such.
But other than that, fantastic.

What about The Devil Wears Prada? I never read the book but the movie was pretty good.

I think Fight Club was one of those movies that came out better than the book. Pitt's best movie

The book Ember is being made into a movie. I hope the movie is good because the book was.

Oh interesting I read that book!

I just saw "The Kite Runner" and I thought it was great.

This is the big one that's coming out: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1099212/. Twilight. Should be interesting, I haven't read the books though but it's a huge fandom.

I view the Virgin Suicides book and movie as two different stories really.

I think i prefer the movie, it has a certain air about it, thoguh i think they made the sisters a little too pretty.

Pride & Prejudice BBC was a fantastic adaptation of the Jane Austen novel.
The Devil Wears Prada was actually a good one as well.

The Kite Runner was OK. It was definitely censored though. I think I prefer the book.

And the Harry Potter movies are not too bad adaptations either. Same goes with LOTR.

Though I LOVE the casting, I wasn't fond of the Bridget Jones movies - especially the 2nd one. And I hated the Along Came a Spider movie. *shivers*
