'Gossip Girl' Spinoff Planned
Little Jenny may move out of the shadow of the Queen Bee
June 11, 2008

Taylor MomsenGood morning, Upper East Siders. If that venti mocha non-fat latte didn't wake you up, maybe the news of a little "Gossip Girl" competition will.

The producers of The CW's hit teen drama are contemplating a spinoff series that revolves around a girls boarding school, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Loosely based on "The It Girl" books by Cicely von Ziegesar, who also wrote the original "Gossip Girl" teen book series, the spinoff would follow the social misadventures of a popularity-hungry teen who enters the Waverly Academy boarding school. There, the social outsider reinvents herself as a popular girl, but finds that she needs to watch her back around her so-called friends.

In the books, the teenager is Jenny Humphrey, who's mortified after appearing in a teen magazine in only her underwear and endures other embarrassing situations. When she makes one mistake too many, she's forced to leave the Constance Billard School for Girls and head to Waverly.

On the CW show, Jenny is played by Taylor Momsen. The producers could stay true to the books and move Momsen over to her own show, or they could introduce a new character this season who will get spun off later.

The CW has not commented on the possible spinoff or if they are interested in picking it up. If they refuse, the show could be shopped to a competing network.

I saw this on TV last night and I don't know about it. I mean, it's not a bad idea, since Cecily, the author of the Gossip Girl book series and It Girl Series did make somewhat a spin-off book series for Jenny. But I find it WAY too early for it. Maybe wait until Gossip Girl is over then have the spin-off.

I think I would go with a spinoff with say Georgina at boarding school?

or Perhaps that sweet girl that is at the bottom rung like Little J once was that carried her books.

I think the Georgina one doesn't sound bad now. I just believe it's a too early for a spin-off, since we didn't even exactly get a full season this year anywho. =\

Why would Jenny go to boardingschool?
In the books it was b/c she was kicked from Constance for spending the night in a hotel witj The Raves, and taht photoshoot..

I'd go gor Georgie!

But if they do, I want Heath Ferro in it :halo:

Josh Schwartz already denied that at the moment they aren't going to do a spinoff, maybe in the future, but not quite yet.

News of a "Gossip Girl" spin-off series, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter this morning may be premature, according to the show's creator/executive producer JOSH SCHWARTZ, who told Entertainment Weekly:

"The books do have a spin-off, but we have no plans right now for a TV spin-off," Schwartz told the magazine's Web site. "Everyone is focused on making season two as good as possible -- that's our goal right now. Not saying never, just very premature."
The trade paper reported this morning that producers of the popular The CW show hoped to expand the series, either giving co-star TAYLOR MOMSEN her own show or by introducing a new character to "Gossip Girl" in the fall who would then get a spin-off.

In following up on the story, a spokesperson for The CW told ET that the network had no comment at this time.

I think it's cool, but I agree with Jo, it's way too early to be thinking of a spin off we only just eneded season 1, I think they should wait until atleast AFTER season 2.
