View Full Version : HP OT #11 b/c we're spiffy and superneato!

there we go. New thread.
danyjoncew
07-21-2008, 11:18 AM
Wow, all the threads are dying, these boards seem so... small now. No DH thread, no Dumby, Voldie, Lupin, Snape threads, no OotP thread, trio, theme park, no 'how was Hagrid's conceived"...
Helen Weasley
07-21-2008, 01:18 PM
I know...what happened to our HP fandom? Where's all the Potterheads?
Our board feels unloved.
Danizinha
07-21-2008, 01:42 PM
:( That's true. But FB in general has been pretty slow lately. Most threads I post in have only 2/3 people posting, and it sometimes takes days for someone to answer :crying:
Helen Weasley
07-21-2008, 04:01 PM
FB just isn't as loved as it once was...poor website.
I just sneezed. But I took allergy pills...obviously, they aren't working. suck. :(
zealousheart
07-21-2008, 06:30 PM
Yeah like half the threads randomly dissapeared. *tear* I miss Old FB as shown by thread in Tabs.
Aw, hope you feel better Helen. Colds in summer suck. I've had a sore throat/headache all day myself, just took some Motrin which will hopefully do something. Quite annoying.
Captain oats 13
07-23-2008, 01:29 AM
I am so pissed off. I can't even..ughhh. For those who talk sometimes in the current events forum sometimes will not why. I can't even handle it anymore... I have reached my f***ign limit.
Helen Weasley
07-23-2008, 04:39 AM
huh what now? I'm a little lost...
Danizinha
07-23-2008, 10:42 AM
I feel your pain, Kristy. I sometimes try stop posting there because I only get annoyed, but I stupidly continue posting and only get more annoyed  But don't let it get to you honey!
I hope you are both better :)
danyjoncew
07-23-2008, 12:48 PM
 Kristy, it's all good fun. There are definitely some heavy attacks there, but if you can't laugh with them, just ignore them all. I think I've been posting there more this year, cause all the other forums are just so empty and boring .
I'm gonna watch Dark Knight today (for $2,5, by the way, yaaaay for cheaper tickets on Wednesdays).
Manon
07-23-2008, 12:55 PM
agreed kristy. They can say all they want about liberals, but as soon as we say something...ugh, seriously, they're so stupid
*Twinkle*
07-23-2008, 01:54 PM
Just don't pooooost there! Makes life much easier! ;) Why fight with someone who don't listen?
And I don't think it's a matter of people loving FB or not... it's a matter of people thinking way too much of themselves and deciding that FB is beneath them. Guh! Seriously.. get over yourself!
Captain oats 13
07-23-2008, 07:20 PM
Yeah, I think I am just gonna stop posting. But it sucks cause that is what they want, a full Conservative forum where they can bash Liberals with no price. :( I shouldn't let it bother me but I am sensitive.
Well, FB is always pretty dead during the summer. Alot of the forums are about shows and they are on hiatus.
Helen Weasley
07-24-2008, 12:59 AM
Why would someone think that they're better than FB? FB kicks ass. Crazy people.
It is kind of dead when shows aren't on...wow. how did I never make that connection?
I'm going to go back to watching Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog for the billionth time now....
Cilla
07-24-2008, 02:28 AM
why didn't I see this thread until now? :|
*Twinkle*
07-24-2008, 02:58 AM
Because you're bliiiiind, Cilla? :p
And yeah... shows being on hiatus is a likely reason to why it's so quiet at the moment. *nods* WE WANT OUR SHOWS BAAACK!
And beats me, Helen... but they do. *shrugs*

Yeah, stupid long distance :(. Map time ()!! Red dots being where I live and Roraima's Capital/Mount Roraima... it's another hemisphere ahaha!

I love maps and globes, I really really do, if I ever cover my wall with stuff, it's gonna be maps :).
Ella, did you see Salvador had the lowest temperature in 70 years? 17,5C!! The poor souls must be freezing lmaaaao. And wtf is up with penguins showing up all along the Brazilian coastline :(:(:(. I feel so, so, bad for them! This world is ending soon.
rachelfan88
07-25-2008, 02:21 PM
Oh! Well, yes, I live much closer.
In here it doesn't get colder, it gets hotter and hotter.
Danizinha
07-25-2008, 02:44 PM
Really? Salvador? WHY can't I get that temperature here?
I feel bad for the poor penguins too. Their home is vanishing :(
Manon
07-25-2008, 03:05 PM
lol. freezing at 17,5 degrees. that's hilarious
rachelfan88
07-25-2008, 03:15 PM
Well, to this side of the world, that's cold!
How's the temperature over there Dani? Hot or cold?
danyjoncew
07-25-2008, 06:02 PM
 I know, Manon, hilarious, the guy on the news was all "... registered its lowest temperature in 70 years!!! 17°C!" I actually loled. But those people's bodies are used to high temperatures all the time, 17 must be cold :-O :lol:.
I want the temperatures to drop here too. And rain. It was cold in May/June, it snowed in the south, rained here, everything was cute and then as soon as winter begins the temperatures started rising, wtf? I'm scared to imagine the summer :-S.
Ella, seriously, last summer I watched a Hilary Duff vlog thing (don't ask) and she was in Rio, said there were penguins there. I was like "nice! I go all the way to Patagonia to see them and they decide to spend the summer in Rio. 400 km from where I live. With Hilary Duff." And people are taking them and selling, it's completely disgusting, I feel like hunting these people and punching them.
Helen Weasley
07-25-2008, 07:48 PM
It's freakin hot here...I have my air conditioning on high and I'm still burning....
Of course, I live in Utah, where we have two seasons, winter and summer. sometimes witnter comes during summer...but not this year. this year it's just HOT. :( I miss the cold....
Danizinha
07-26-2008, 09:26 AM
How's the temperature over there Dani? Hot or cold?
Mari it's cold-ish hahaha. Well, obviously not cold, but colder compared to the temperatures we're used to. It's 24°C today  It's raining and the wind is cold hahaha. Since we're used to 29 minimum, I'm kind of happy with 24
That's really sick, Dany. It makes me disgusted that people actually can sell a poor defenseless creature. I hate human beings sometimes
rachelfan88
07-26-2008, 09:34 AM
Well see, don't complain, it's cold, well colder than here where the temperatures go from 28ºC to 36ºC
Poor little penguins, I had never imagined that you could just sell them.
Manon
07-26-2008, 09:48 AM

ETA: wait, is that an infinite I see in your 6 key? *childish voice* This is so coooool! And some keyboards have 3/4 in the the 6 key! I bet Jo chose platform 9 3/4 because she had one like that and it was easier to type . Is it weird that I actually have fun with stuff like "keyboards across the world"?

Naked girls in the californication one and in the L word well everyone's having sex! At like 2 pm!
danyjoncew
07-29-2008, 05:08 PM
Oh God, I knooow! Not only they are doing a horrible selection with the shows they air (TMZ? REALLY?!?!?) but their promos keep getting more sensationalist and superficial. Die, Warner Channel, diiiiie.
Captain oats 13
07-29-2008, 05:30 PM
This is why I don't watch much TV.
Just a question, does anyone turn on the movie network at like 1:00 AM and find it it's porn? Even worse, sometimes my dad falls asleep after a movie and then we come downstairs to find porn on the TV and my dad sleeping.
danyjoncew
07-29-2008, 05:40 PM
Yeah, Kristy. That's Cinemax for me. I'm always flipping to see if there's a movie and tadaaa, here's free porn, really bad free porn, not even curiosity absorbent porn. I don't get the logic. Like "yay, it's past midnight, so everybody wants to watch porn!".
Captain oats 13
07-29-2008, 05:43 PM
I know. There are some people who just can't sleep and want to watch a movie. And NOT film that requires cheesy music and blond bimbos.
danyjoncew
07-29-2008, 05:49 PM
Yeah... I'd say a gripping plot, not a worth gripping ass. Then again good movies are so hard to come by lately. Seriously people, if money is that easy, go help Africa or something ¬¬.

I liked the movies much better than the books. They were lovely and cast really well!
The books made want to push them off a cliff, it rambled so much! Sorry. LORT book fans, I love books just not those.

07-29-2008, 06:35 PM
Yeah, and making me want to reread the books, but I need to stop rereading stuff and move on to new books, my reading experience this year was basically rereading HP, His Dark Materials and reading a bunch of Physics and Math, embarrassing.
The books are a bit tiring, I know. The first two have some really dull moments, but the awesomeness was so worth it for me.

, I agree it took me forever to get through the LOTR books I was determined though.
I haven't read anything but school stuff and rereads either, it's awful.

I love the books. I agree they have some dull moments but his detail is just incredible. *sigh*
Of course the movies were brilliant as well. As long as PJ has a part in the Hobbit production, I am happy.
I have actually been pretty good with new books lately. I currently reading "The Memory keepers Daughter" which is pretty good so far.
rachelfan88
07-29-2008, 06:40 PM
Me too, I need to move onto new books also, I've read a few out of HP but not enough, besides psychology books don't count. Right now I'm reading Lemony Snicket, they're funny in a very dark way.
They're certainly not books I would read again.
danyjoncew
07-29-2008, 06:42 PM
LotR and Narnia got pretty lucky with the movie versions. Fans of the books hardly hate on the movies and most people actually think the movies are better than the books, which is pretty rare.
Captain oats 13
07-29-2008, 06:43 PM
I only saw the movie of that. (Limony Snicket)
Well, I am not a fan at all of the Narnia book series. It's very creative but I feel spoken down to as if all the readers are little children. Apart from Edmund, (who I find is the only one who is not goody goody perfect) I don't really like any of the characters.
I did like the movies, though! I didn't love them, but they were more entertaining than the books.

I'm reading Orson Scott Card. Has anyone read Ender's Game? That's a brilliant book I could reread and you should all read it but I'm reading short stories by him cause I don't have enough motivation.
I liked Lemony Snicket. They have a weird kind of humor and exciting to the point that I bought the last one as soon as it came out cause I had to know what happened.
Captain oats 13
07-29-2008, 06:49 PM
Hmm... maybe I should read those books then.
rachelfan88
07-29-2008, 06:52 PM
The books are pretty good, I'm on book numer two, I saw the movie first and loved it so much that when I found out about the books I had to read them!
Narnia is a book for children, so that's why most adults don't like them much, but I enjoyed them, the movies are lovely, I really like them!
danyjoncew
07-29-2008, 06:53 PM
I agree, Narnia movie >>>>> Narnia books so far. And most the chronicles aren't awe material.

I still think Books > Movies though. Always Books > Movies. It's the principle of it.
Captain oats 13
07-29-2008, 06:58 PM
Only with Narnia will I make that exception.
rachelfan88

I would usually agree on the Book over Movie rule, but I gotta say, some books that are not so good make great movies!

Well, yes of course, the genius are the writers for creating a world, it's just they don't always explain it well, not just LOTR, Narnia has that sometime is this amazing world that because the author decided to make it as a children book it didn't developed as well as it could've.

Wow, I'm such a nerd.
But that's okay.
Um...Something random, I wrote up my query letter and I'm gonna start sending it out to literary agents, so someone can represent me and get me published...yea! :D

I was reading CLEOLINDA's latest batch of links over Breaking Dawn and THIS ONE PRETTY MUCH MADE MY HEART STOP.
"Just got back from Borders, where they took back my book with no problem. Got into a discussion with the cashier about how I was the 15th(!!!) person to bring my book back today. Seems like many customers felt that SM was not true to her characters and her self created Twilight world, and are calling foul."
And:
"I returned mine to borders as well, and there was quite a stack of them in the return pile."
Helen Weasley
08-04-2008, 12:52 PM
 I read that last night and I just had to laugh. Especially since I would never return a book...I mean, books are too pretty. and they smell so good....
Even stupid, lame-ass books like Breaking Dawn still have that nice new book smell....

Helen Weasley

I think she got too cocky cause of all the Twihards and couldn't come up with a good enough plot to live up to the hype...
I agree, they returned it because it sucked. All of S.M's books do, in my opinion. God, I hate her writing style.
Captain oats 13

I liked the first 3 and I liked the Host...but yeah, this one was not very good. I will still always love Jacob for he was the only good thing about that dammed book. Even if he did get one of the worst plotlines EVER!
Helen Weasley
08-05-2008, 03:19 AM
I don't know. I always found Jacob creepy. I mean, he almost raped Bella in book 3...what with forcing himself on her and all. And then she's all "oh I love you too"? So would not happen.
I just sent out 12 query letters, you guys. TWELVE. Crazy. Wonder how many rejections I'll get before a literary agent is interested in representing me....Oy vey, I'm anxious now.

Remember not to be too mean, there are some people out there who liked the book.
Go Team Rowling!! :D I swear, I don't think we will ever find a more beautiful series than HP. I have my perfect box set right next to me and call me cheesy, but I find it so beautiful. The Characters, the settings, the friendships, the love relationships, the themes, I can go on and on and on. I know this is supposed to be OT but I like to cherish the series once in awhile.

I read the entire thing last night before I went to sleep. It didn't take long. As usual, it was an easy read....and as usual, I came up with a new title for the book....which I may parody, just for fun. But I dunno.
I don't know if saying my new title for it will be too mean, so I'll just put it on my livejournal. :)

True, all is open., you all should have warned me though! I see all the Twilight hype and I've just started the series a few weeks ago. Halfway through Eclipse though I like it. Easy read, sure, nothing groundbreaking but still VERY hard to put down, I'll probably finish Eclipse tonight because I NEED to know what happens. Now I'm sad to hear the ending isn't good. Did anyone LIKE Breaking Dawn?
And random addition: How much does the HP forum overlap the Twilight one? Just curious.
