Potter Off Topic Thread
ahahha. Look! This thread so could be named POT! I say we start doing it next time, if you're with me.
I don't think the HP boards are bigger than the Twilight boards these days... or is it (I could easily find out, but I'm lazy ahaha)? There's a huge Twilight hype going on and we're are losing HP threads rapidly :(.
Helen Weasley
08-06-2008, 05:10 PM
Well, we are POTterHeads. heehee...
Anyways, I call it Breaking Yawn now. Some people have been telling me to be nicer (not just on these forums), so I've been trying to be nicer to the Twihards, but really...That's the new title I've given it.
danyjoncew
08-06-2008, 05:18 PM
Exactly, we're Potterheads, it works perfectly :D. Say you agree with me, potter people!
I hated Twilight and it's not a secret, but since we do have fans here, insulting the books in front of them would be a little insensitive. But to be honest, the horrible and hilarious Breaking Dawn reviews almost make me want to read it for epic lolz. And more importantly, I REALLY want it to be a movie ahahaha.
I hate stupid professors who just don't bother showing up for the 1st classes of the semester and don't even care enough to put a note on the door ¬¬. At least we got some rain. YES, I came back soaked yesterday .
Cilla
08-06-2008, 05:44 PM
I don't think there are a lot of fans left after Breaking Dawn
danyjoncew
08-06-2008, 05:49 PM
Really, Cilla? Cause I've read a few comments loving the book and I saw it managed to get a few stars on Amazon (with hundreds of people rating 5 :-O).
rachelfan88
08-06-2008, 06:01 PM
There are still fans of course, I think the really die hard fans are the only ones left, because I loved the books, not so much love as much as strangely obsessed with it, because they're not even good, but with this one I couldn't care less.
Cilla
08-06-2008, 06:01 PM
yeah, I read that some people loved it too... but the majority REALLY hated it.
it's just fangirls in denial probably.

I think it's time to bring JKR's D word and say darling if you think that book was good you might be a bit delusional

I think it's time to bring JKR's D word and say darling if you think that book was good you might be a bit delusional
I couldn't have put it better myself! :D
Certainly, those who are still giving the series ten million stars must be delusional.
danyjoncew
08-06-2008, 06:44 PM
. The d word was an Emerson Spartz work though, not Jo's, as much as she laughed when he said it. Some fans were ready to burn her alive and blaming her for Emerson's choice of words aahahah.
Speaking of Emerson, maybe it's because I got sick of Mugglenet or something, but haven't heard of him ever since he was on TV talking about Dumby being gay (rolls eyes at Fox "News"). I remember he said he made a lot of money with Mugglenet and that is so weird for me.
Helen Weasley
08-06-2008, 07:51 PM
He had a little blurb in the live Mugglecast last week...
Captain oats 13
08-07-2008, 01:20 AM
Whoever thinks Breaking is good is quite the big D. Me being a fan of the series is more than happy to admit that. However, I think hardcore fans would love the book even if it was the characters reading the phone book.
Where is Emerson?? I never go on Mugglenet, (Leaky is my homeland) but I still like him.
Helen Weasley
08-07-2008, 03:28 AM
  I think characters reading the phone book might have more plot than SMeyer's series does...
I'm not sure exactly where Emerson is. I just remember a blurb about him on the mugglecast....I'll have to listen to it again.

Overall I didn't like BD either although I know a lot of fans who did. It appears to be quite mixed thats for sure. Anyway it was always HP>Twilight for me anyway so now I might be less of a Twlight fan but it's not that much of a big deal for me.
Hmm I don't really like calling others delusional because I know what it feels like and it's not nice to say the least. Although what did Emerson say about Dumby being gay? I missed that one? Fox News? This doesn't sound good to me  I don't blame JKR for what he said about my ship anyway I just dislike him in general. I never go on mugglenet or leaky cauldron because by the time I go on FB here I always get the news from you guys  :D I only go to other sites to view the trailers and such.

08-07-2008, 06:13 PM
okay i just had to share
found this on a ljcommunity
this was up on the twilight lexicon until VERY recently
Can vampires have babies? What happens when a woman is pregnant and gets changed?
No. In the Twilight universe, a vampire's only bodily fluid is its venom; this replaces the saliva and other fluids. Thus, vampires have no sperm, so they cannot make vampire babies. When a human is changed into a vampire, they are essentially "frozen" and thus will stay same way forever. If a pregnant woman is changed, she will remain pregnant forever, no matter what stage her pregnancy was in, two days or eight months, and the baby will never be born.
Smeyer is SUCH a failure and now it is official: the worst writer ever
Cilla

so my message will be in caps.

also, when bella is changed she's all cut open and in the middle of giving birth. though when she's a vampire she's all pretty and perfect and NOT cut open and NOT having any of the babyfat

they're so complicated she needs like 3 months to write it! (how long does it take to get a book published?)
rachelfan88
08-10-2008, 11:14 AM
I'm sorry doesn't she have someone to say to her NO.
This is insane! She needs to step away from the writing world.
Helen Weasley
08-10-2008, 01:17 PM
I've been working on the novel I'm trying to get published right now for over two years...and it takes a good year to get published, after you get a literary agent and a deal with a publisher...
So it makes no sense to me how she could've written Twilight in three months...Oh. Right. it has no plot.
What the hell is gonna be in this encyclopedia? Twelve hundred more pages of "Oh, Edward, I love you!" "Bella, my love!" "Edward!" "Bella!" "Edward!"?
zealousheart
08-10-2008, 01:43 PM
That made me laugh a lot.
Oh well. JKR>Smeyer. We know that at least.
And haha Helen, probably. I have missed much of the Twilight bashing because I don't HATE it, I just think HP is better but does anyone else think Edward/Bella is a kind of...blah relationship? Like Harry/Hermione? Just kidding but like it didn't interest me. Jacob was so much better.
Cilla
08-10-2008, 02:48 PM
but seriously, WHY would they need an encyclopedia? IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!
there's NOTHING complicated about it, nothing needs to be explained or whatever.
BellaBlack
08-10-2008, 02:57 PM
I can see a lot of fans buying it. I don't think I will, I've already spent enough money on her books. And no way can SM ever by compared to JKR I HATE it when people do that. SM said herself there'll never be another JKR. It's just...a comparsion that should've never been made
danyjoncew
08-10-2008, 03:10 PM
"You may think you already know everything"... see? When you read things like HP or Lord of the Rings you KNOW there's so much more and you get so curious that an encyclopedia/additional books makes sense, but if fans think they already know everything there's to know... how about STOPPING and writing NEW things?
BellaBlack
08-10-2008, 03:17 PM
Idk what could be in there. More werewolf/vamp myth? Or more backstories on characters? I have no idea that's all that I can think of.
Cilla
08-10-2008, 03:32 PM
but if she hasn't written things she thought of, WHY write 200+ pages of Bella trying to tell how much she loves Edward and swooning over him, while she could've written something else? IT GETS OLD, SMEYER!
rachelfan88
08-10-2008, 03:43 PM
What backstory? It's not that interesting! I might love Edward but I don't need 100 years of his story, I just don't.
And if it's about vampires, I have enough with Buffy and Angel, I think we all do, I just don't see an encyclopedia being needed, not every book needs explanation, but that could just be me.
BellaBlack
08-10-2008, 03:57 PM
 I was just making suggestions how should I know? That idea doesn't really appeal to me.
Captain oats 13
08-10-2008, 07:59 PM
It's hard not to compare JKR to Meyer cause it's too much of a coincidence that this book thingie is now in the works after JKR already said she is gonna publish hers. I don't hate the Twilight books, (well, excluding the last), but this is just ridiculous.
Anyhoo, I can't WAIT for JKR's!!!*! :D
zealousheart
08-10-2008, 08:07 PM
Did anyone listen to her interview on Mugglecast? Cuz I wonder what she said. It said she compared her books and HP books.
But yeah...JKR's should be great. Did you hear she wrote a prequel? 800 words. So need to read that.
EDIT: It's totally here:
http://www.mugglenet.com/app/news/full_story/1684
Yay for JKR's writing!
Helen Weasley
08-10-2008, 08:28 PM
I was so pissed when Mugglecast had SMeyer talking about Twilight...Cause I listen to Mugglecast for HP, not to listen to stuff I'm already hearing about everywhere else...
That prequel is highly entertaining. And I was gonna pre-order Beedle the Bard, but I have to wait till my new debit card comes in the mail...hopefully it'll be here tomorrow so I can order it. :) I'm so psyched for the BtB and J.K's encyclopedia.
Captain oats 13
08-10-2008, 10:12 PM
The prequel was amazing! But it makes me want a HP prequel book! How amazing would that be??
I can't wait or B+B. I am getting the more expensive one.
Helen Weasley
08-10-2008, 11:19 PM
I'm going for the cheaper one, simply because my bank account can handle that one while I pay the bills. :)
I do want an HP prequel. But I also want to see J.K write something other than HP...
Captain oats 13
08-11-2008, 01:52 AM
Thats true. Can't JKR write the encyclopedia, a prequel and a new book? or is that asking too much? ;)
Manon
08-11-2008, 03:19 AM
you could buy the prequel in a book with those other short stories i think, but it was only in the UK and not a whole lot of books were available =(
Helen Weasley
08-11-2008, 12:57 PM
What other short stories...?
Did she write more, or was it other authors?
Captain oats 13

There were other authors.
BellaBlack
08-11-2008, 02:23 PM
I can't wait for all of JKR's new stuff. Her encyclopedia will be like a bible for me for awhile  although I'm not sure I'm ready for her to write a new book. I'd love her to keep writing amazing books don't get me wrong but I'm still used to her only being like a sort of HP goddess  not ready for that to change even though the series has ended.
Helen Weasley
08-11-2008, 03:55 PM
She totally is a goddess to me still.
I think when the encyclopedia comes out, I'm going to go to random churches and read from that, rather than their bible, and see if anyone notices the difference. ;)

Well, I enjoy the movies because they're entertaining, and the cheesy parts are fun to mock.
I'm not gonna spend that much money to see Twilight, though. If I see that movie, it'll be RedBoxed. one whole dollar. Or maybe the dollar theaters on 50 cent wednesday. That's all i'll spend on that tripe...
But I dunno if I can go see Twilight...it might hurt to roll my eyes that much. And I may actually die of laughter, like I almost do every time i see the preview.

, very Slytherin of you Helen. Whatever, despite BD it's still the chick flick of fall, and looks hot, I shall see it. If I get the time.
So I just came from the eye doctor. And I have pink eye. And it hurts. And I am not amused.

OMG Helen congraaats! Saw your post the other day about how you were frustrated what with Twilight and that's amazing. :) May I ask what your book's about?

congrats Helen :bgrin:
Hmm I didn't think about it as betrayal but it is really  maybe I'll wait until my Thanksgiving break to see w/ my FL friends and cousin..not too excited to see it that day anymore. I already was making plans...GRR.

Be smart, don't see Twilight!
I don't want to post it on a public forum, cause I'm rather protective of my ideas. But it's a young adult, and it's about freedom, beauty, truth and love. ;) heehe...okay, so it's not Moulin Rouge. But it is about those things, really.

And yeah Bella you SHOULD see Twilight! We are betraying in the grand tradition of Peter Pettigrew and Severus Snape, lmao. Actually I never planned to see it on the day. I'll probably end up seeing in on Thanksgiving as well cause my cousin and aunt both are reading the series, and that's the next time I'll see them.

Thats exactly why I'm waiting to see it until Thanksgiving. you see, I was thinking my HP club at my college would see HBP together if it would've gone that way BUT NOW WE CANT BECAUSE THE WB SUCKS ASS DAMNIT  sorry I still get angry bursts.

wasn't DH supposed to come out in 2010 and 2011?
Manon
08-20-2008, 02:52 PM
Yeah there will still be a year between HBP & DH. and now they're acting like they're gods cause we dont have to wait 2 years for DH after HBP, but now we have to wait 2 years between Ootp & HBP, so really, it doesnt make any sense. And DH Is still coming out in 2010, so that didnt change, we still have to wait til 2010 to see it. They're so stupid

They really should start filming Deathly Hallows sooner, but as I've said before, WB just doesn't care about the fans. they just care about their business perspective.

So...back to OT... I saw Wicked in Ottawa and it was AMAZING!!!
Helen Weasley
08-21-2008, 01:52 AM
I've never been a fan of Wicked, but that's just me. I was unfairly forced to sign a song from it in front of school in my senior year...and I had to hear it about....fifty times a day, and I had to sign it over and over and over again...
So I have a bit of a hatred against the play.

I have, but in my opinion the play is even better! The effects, the acting, the sets, the music...everything about the play was just INCREDIBLE!! I recommend it if it ever comes back.
You should give it another chance, Helen, the play really is worth it. Out of curiosity, what song did you sing?

Dude, what the... ok, so, I've been noticing that everytime I think about traveling or showing someone a certain place and look for pictures, some of the results have pics of a dog in said place. I thought it was funny that dog pics would randomly show up in the results of whatever destiny I searched, but I just found out that it's actually the same dog. He's been in literally every Brazilian state, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Uruguay. WTF? This dog has traveled more than anyone I know lmao.

Defying Gravity. and it was signing, actually. Sign language...yeah. It got really annoying after the second time of hearing it. My friend and I started to sign really extravagantly, to mock it, cause we got so annoyed, and my teacher was like, "I never thought I'd say this, but you all need to be signing like Helen and Ammanda! They're showing the emotion and getting into it..." It was kinda funny, cause we were just trying to get through it the only way we know how, to make fun of it....
When it comes to musicals, I prefer things like Buffy, Hairspray, or Chicago. :) I love those musicals.
Captain oats 13
08-22-2008, 12:36 AM

OT...but exciting. I drove today for the first time ever. I know all of you probably have been driving for ages and I'm old enough that I should have been as well but I kept putting it off. It was exciting. I almost ran into some geese in the middle of the road but that's another story,.

Hee. Yeah, Mari, the dog is missing the Venezuelan love. But seriously, what the hell, I really wanna be that dog :-S. I even promise I wouldn't pee on anyone's leg.
I'm gonna be really evil right now and say I'm probably more excited about "Harry, a History" than about "The tales of Beedle the Bard"... oops. Let's sing the bards' sooong... tomooooorrow will taaaake us away, faaar from home, no one will eeeever know our naaaames... but the bards' songs will remaaaain.

If you don't think about it too much, it's pretty simple stuff. I passed with my first test. I kind of like walking everywhere better than driving, though. I mean, my doctor would be so disappointed in me if I stopped walking six miles a day...I'm pretty sure if I actually had a car, I wouldn't ever exercise.
What's "Harry - a history"? Is that the encyclopedia?
danyjoncew
08-24-2008, 01:19 PM
Driving exams can be a total pain in the ass, not because it's difficult, but because in some places it's a like a mafia. Not only they want to take as much money out of you as they can, they also want to control and hold the number of cars in big urban centers, so every little detail counts. But even if that's the case, all you can do is take as many lessons as you need before you feel confident and calm enough to take the exam and have patience to persevere if you fail (then again, money doesn't fall from the sky, which is why I understand Manon).
HaH is Melissa's book. A look into the HP phenomenon and its history, as seen from inside the fandom and obviously with all the great contacts Melissa has, which means it has a new JKr interview and Jo even wrote some sort of prologue for it, sounds so sweet.

Oh, thanks! I was trying to figure out what that book was called, cause I wanted to buy it. I'm just starting to listen to Pottercast, and I've become addicted..I love Mel. She's so entertaining. Do you know when it comes out? I know it's soon, but I really wanted to get it...
See, I didn't have to worry about anyone trying to squeeze money out of me for my driving exams...I got it all free at school.

Comes out in November :D. Amazon has it for pre-orders already, with an excerpt from Jo. Pottercast is awesome \o/, I grew tired of Mugglecast soon enough, but they are always having fun and different looks into things on Pottercast, not to mention the interviews. Still, Leaky Mug is probably the best. Until we start our podcast, obviously.
