Well, Tropical Storm Fay left us unscathed; we barely even got any rain, after all. Now, all eyes are on Gustav. Krysie, I don't know where in Texas you are, but pretty much the whole northern and western Gulf Coast could be at risk from this storm, depending on how the track changes. I remember watching Katrina make a beeline towards the panhandle all day on Friday, August 26, 2005. The 10pm advisory changed the track to New Orleans, then the storm hit Mississippi two days later. It's not an exact science, but the forecasters at the National Hurricane Center do a pretty good job -- if Pensacola is anywhere in the cone, we start making preparations, just in case.

I heard Ms. Fay is coming up my way this weekend. Which makes me mad to no end. I have two dang concerts this weekend! They will not be ruined!!!!.....Saturday: Isolated Thunderstorms. I swear to God if my concert is rained out and my outfit gets wet....Imma have to punch a hurricane out. Of course, that means Jonas wet. Oh wait, maybe this isn't too bad....haha


Oh and I still haven't gotten my books for my classes. When I get the money, I will. haha

Most of the latest models show Gustav heading into lower central Louisiana, then turning southwest into Texas. A couple show it veering off towards Texas before landfall. Only a couple of models that I've seen show Gustav affecting Florida.

Where Hanna goes is anyone's guess right now. It could head up the East Coast or into the Gulf or across Florida. ::sigh::

The National Hurricane Center is watching two more invests in the Atlantic; they believe one of them is very likely to develop into a tropical storm.

Well, we didn't do too badly from Gustav. Pensacola was on the very outside edge -- it was windy today and I gather that a few hundred people lost power, but things were fine at our house. DH and I picked up my mom and we went to lunch and shopping, and when we got back to her house, we saw a tornado warning that said that a tornado was supposedly heading towards the Navy Base, which is not far from our house, so we said, "Gotta go." Fortunately, it didn't affect us and we heard it also passed near our other property, but my uncle lives right next door and they didn't see or hear anything.

Now, we just have to watch out for Hanna (which looks like it's going to stay in the Atlantic) and Ike, which is headed right for the Gulf.

Maybe you all know these sites, but if you want to keep an eye on the tracks of Hanna, Ike, and Josephine, here are the sites I use:

National Hurricane Center (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/) - the official forecast track, plus click on "forecast discussion" and it explains why they think the storm is going to move that way.

Computer models - research centers and universities have developed computer programs to chart how they think storms are going to move. They don't all look at the same information, or even if they do, they interpret it in different ways. The official forecast track (as explained in the discussion) will study all of the models, as well as looking at weather patterns themselves. If you want to look at the models themselves, I have a few links for that as well:

Storm 09 is Ike, Storm 10 is Josephine. I'm not sure what Storm 50 is, it's there every year and doesn't correspond to anything, so just ignore that one.

Hello sweetie... Tanks for the kind words and love. I've been pretty good, but I'm staying rather busy with all my aspects of life... I've got some stuff to share at some point w/ you all here. And if u've got my LJ info and are a LJ friend of mine, you'll see some of what I've photographed and created lately.

My weekend has been a blast, on which, I'll give more details later b/c I've got a massive sinus head ache right now...

FL was beautiful :D I am enjoying time back home though. And I missed when Justin Hartley was on you dunno how much I regret it! I've seen stuff on youtube but I love him and Lindsay together and I loved him on Smallville. But they killed off Fox entirely :(


That's good to hear that FL was beautiful, Bee. He was amazing as Fox, esp when he was hooked up w/ Theresa on Passions... I too, liked him w/ Kay...

But I was upset & glad when Justin left passions. and then, later they did kill him off...I'm so lost when it comes to certain things w/ the show, but not w/ the length of time they've taken for ET, Gwen, her mother, Little Ethan and all. Did you see or know of how her secrets got revealed?

I didn't watch Passions after it moved to Direct tv, Slea. I know what happened though. I didn't know Fox and Theresa hooked up though? They didn't date for long right?

I'm fine. Just heavy rains. My basement didn't flood badly. I didn't lose power at all.

Apparently it was not as bad as Katrina/Rita but still...looks awful.

It's great that Ike didn't intensify to a major hurricane, but as you've seen from the news, a strong category two can still cause major damage. My cousin lives in Houston and she was going to stay with her mom in Dallas. My mom tried to call them, but she couldn't get through.

My in-laws called from Missouri, and Ike went through there last night and knocked their power out. It's a tough storm.

Hurricane Season, by the way, runs June 1 to November 30, however, named storms have formed as early as April and as late as December, in recent history. Those early/late storms are *usually not that strong and stay out in the Atlantic. August and September are the peak months, but we got hit by Hurricane Opal, Cat3, in October of 1995.

I'm grateful that my area has had a quiet hurricane season, and I hope it stays that way. Maybe a full two years without any major damage in the area will mean our insurance rates will stabilize.

My power has been out for 2 weeks but today I flipped the switch and YAY and started jumping up and down believe it or not ;) I missed you guys so much!!! How are you all doing?

We didn't have any damage btw, the fence blew over but that is fixed now. Thank God nothing major happened. I feel so bad for the families in Galveston though. So devastating:(
