Since the Everwood Forum is growing, I thought it would be a good idea to post the rules on this forum. If you have any questions, please post them.

Board Rules - Follow them!

-No bashing. Insulting or name-calling of any posters is not allowed at Fanbolt. Nor is the bashing of any celebrity. You may state your opinions concerning celebrities within reason. Users may be banned for bashing, please keep this in mind.

- No use of profanity or any form of inappropriate language.

-Before you start a new thread, please check to see if a similar thread has already been started, if so please post there. Duplicate threads will be deleted.

-Make sure your topic title reflects what the thread is about. Please make the subject clear.

-If you are posting on a thread that accumulates more than 150 posts, please wait for a Mod to close the thread and start the new thread. Do not start a continuing thread on your own.

- No Spamming. Spamming is in no way allowed at Fanbolt. Spamming includes any post that is made only to increase your post count – such as only posting smilies, one or two word posts, only quoting a post etc...

-Please also refrain from double posting; use the 'edit post' button where needed.

-Please try to avoid bumping of threads if at all possible. Bumping is when a member types a one or two-word post deliberately to "bump" a thread back to the top of the board.

-Please do not use distorded text when posting. ThIs Is HaRd To ReAd and ALL CAPS makes people think you are yelling, which if you're not, gives the wrong impression...

-Threads that are located in an inappropriate forum will either be closed or moved.

- If you are posting a thread or post that has spoilers in it, please post spoilers in the spoiler forum.

-Signatures should include no more than 8 lines of text. Pictures are allowed, please keep them to a minium. No more than 8, and they must not exceed 3 inches total in height. Sound wavs, offensive language, or any form of spoilers is not allowed. One small (100 x 35 pixels) animated banner is allowed in board sigs. Fanbolt administration or moderators can ask you to remove or edit your signature at anytime, they also have the right to suspend it. If they do suspend your signature, you will receive a private message notification, please respond accordingly.

-Please keep in mind that if you have too many Private Messages (PM) stored, you will not be able to receive any new incoming messages. The current limit for all your pm folders is 80.

-If posting any articles, include a link to the site where you got the article from.

-Members cannot post a link to any other message board site, unless there is a link to Fanbolt that is clearly visible on their main page.

-Members cannot contact members via private messages, email, or any other form to advertise anything at all. If someone tries to do that to you, please contact a Mod or Emma.

-Threads celebrating your number of posts are only allowed when you receive a new star/user title, if you post a thread celebrating a post count and have not received a new star/user title, your thread will be deleted.

-Uploading pictures as attachments is not allowed at Fanbolt. It takes up too much server space and bandwidth. Please post pictures that are hosted on other websites.
(If you need a place to upload pictures, www.myitem.com is 1 choice, although you can find plenty of other free hosts).

-The ONLY RPG's allowed are ones that are set up by the administration or moderators of Fanbolt. Please do not start your own rpg. If you have a request for a certain rpg, please pm an Administrator.

-FanFiction is generally not allowed on this board. If you want to share your fanfic with the world, please post it at www.fanfiction.net and link to it from here. Please don't post the entire content of your fanfics.

-Usernames are ONLY changed at the discretion of the Admin, and only for a valid reason. Getting tired of your name or just wanting a new one is not a valid reason. There is a 1-week period for new members, in which the Admin will change their name for them. This is incase of a misspelling or what not of the name they registered with.

-Club forums are only accessible by club staff and club members. If you wish to post in those forums or be a member of the clubs, please check on the main page of FanBolt, where you will find a list of requirements and rules for all the clubs that we host.

-If you want to request any topic for a new board or a new feature at FanBolt, please contact one of the Admin (directors). We are always looking for new ideas and features for the site!

Any questions? Please consult one of the mods!

SPAMMING ISSUE

There is a OT thread for chatting.

I always compliment about how the Everwood board is friendly and everyone helps out with new people and questionable threads with answers all the time which is so great! It makes it easier as a mod and it also feels good knowing that people do pay attention to guides and answers to questions.

We were doing great as a team and now I find in a number of threads chit chat about nothing to do with the subject of the thread.

If you see going off topic edit your post on a thread and say lets go to the OT thread and then to get the thread back on topic add something a small contribution to the thread getting it back on track.

This will help alot. If it doesnt then I am affraid the board owners may take away the posting count and the different levels and I kinda like that feature

Reminder of the spamming rule.

- No Spamming. Spamming is in no way allowed at Fanbolt. Spamming includes any post that is made only to increase your post count – such as only posting smilies, one or two word posts, etc...

-Please also refrain from double posting; use the 'edit post' button where needed.

FYI: Be Safe in Posting

Reminder to please be cautious not everyone is who they say they are online. I just want everyone especially the minors to be safe.

Internet predators lurk on this type of site and I just want to put a reminder out there to be safe.

Nothing has happened yet but I think as a great online community I want us older folks to watch out for the greater good younger posters especially.

I only skim some threads so I figured the more eyes out there would be a good idea.

So let your spider senses guide you in making wise choices online.

If you dont feel comfortable in a line of questioning from other posters or are concerned about someones posts PM Emma the board owner or one of the Mods (Agents)

Its Summer Time and alot more people are online so I thought it was a good idea to put a little FYI out there and also to look out for our fellow posters.

We have built a nice community here and I dont want any TROLLS to ruin it.

*Minors are anyone under the age of 18 but I want all posters to be safe.

FYI about deleted or closed threads

If you ever start a thread that is closed or deleted and are thinking huh?

It is because it has either been merged into the appropriate thread or closed and moved into the storage room board where they can still be viewed and a link is given or an answer as to why it was closed can be found.

I would never just delete a thread, it might get closed but not without a reason being explained.

Also it might have just dropped off the first page and might be all the way to page 3.

There are alot of duplicate threads so please be patient in looking for it.

This is the list of titles you'll get depending on your post count.
0-49: Groupie
50-99: Struggling Actor
100-499: Extra
500-999: Intern
1000-1499: Commercial Actor
1500-1999: Daytime Soap Star
2000-2999: Daytime Talk Show Host
3000-4999: Prime-Time Actor
5000-9999: Hollywood Star
10000-24,999: Hollywood Elite
25,000-????????

Moderators are called Agents, and Admins and/or SuperMods are Producers/Executive Producers.
Some special posters such as Chichen will have special titles such as The Spiffy Reporter. Emma hands these out to those deserving enough.

Now get posting..you know you want those stars and cool names (but not in a spamming way)!

No spamming and read Fanbolt's rules please

Don't start new threads if there already is one about the same topic.
example- Wish to talk about Amy? And how great or how much you hate her? Well go to the Amy Abbott Thread. Search the everwood board. Chances are there is already the therad you're looking for. If you have any questions, PM a mod or ask in the Questions thread. Thanks

Also remember that there are threads which may not be viewable to you at the moment. Just go to the bottom of the Main Everwood Forum and you'll see this at the bottom of the threads:

Showing threads 1 to ~ of ~, sorted by [TYPE] in [ascending/descending] order, from [#DAYS]

Just set [#DAYS] to "The Beginning", the other options you can set as you please and BINGO up will pop threads which haven't been replied to for a while. You may find the thread you're looking for there.

This is a mini-faq I put together which should help the newbies. I wish I had it when I first started. A lot of it is covered in the FAQ page though so that and the Board Rules should be your first stop.

Fanbolt isn't just about Everwood?
Something I didn't realize for a while was that yes there are other boards where you can discuss pretty much anything you want from other TV Shows to movies to music to general discussion and RPGs. Just head to the forums main page.

Forums/Boards/Threads/Posts?
Quick overview. Forums/Boards are pretty much the same thing. They are like Subject areas and house threads.
The threads break the boards down even further by discussing topics to do with the board. Each forum is moderated (controlled) by posters known as Moderators or Agents. Their job is pretty much as the police force of the boards. They will oversee the boards and move/delete posts and threads as necessary. Posts of course are the individual things you write inside the threads.

Disappearing Threads
Something that bugged me my first few weeks here was the fact that threads kept disappearing. Actually, they're still there, they're just hidden. Threads that have not had any responses for the past 2 days are automatically hidden and the only way to view them is to go down to the bottom of a forum and change the options that state how you want to view the forum. Things like "Sort threads by XX days" etc. If you still can't find the thread you're looking for then it may have been moved to Storage which you can access from the forum's Main Page. Storage means it's still there but it's closed so you can't post to it anymore.

He's a mod, she's a mod, he's a mod... yeah yeah yeah yeah
There are different types of Mods all over Fanbolt. To find out who the current Mods are, just check out Board Leaders link at the bottom of Fanbolt's main forums page.

Most moderate more than one board. The ones for the Everwood board are Fraz, Crashdown Mommy, and myself (as well as Emma). If you wanna be a mod, you need to apply to TPTB (the powers that be). You can find a link "Mod Application" on the forums main page. Conditions apply.

Private Messages
You're allowed a total of 80 messages in all of your folders. If you have that many (as Choirmom knows, lol), then nobody can PM you. This includes messages in your sent folder, saved messages etc.

User Control Panel
This is the place where you can change the settings to suit you. It's the first of the top row of buttons and is called "User CP" It's where you'll find your Buddy list, Private Messages, Subscribed Threads, Ignore list etc and is also the place where you can change your profile or signature. The Edit Options bit is good because you can set how many posts to view per page, whether or not you want to see other posters sigs (good if you're on dialup) or images, and change your avatar among other things. Your avatar is the picture that appears under your name on the boards and you can only choose an avatar from the list Emma has put together. You can pretty much customize this site to suit you (just make sure your cookies are enabled).

Subscriptions
Aside from bookmarking your favorite forum, you can also subscribe to them. Once you're subscribed, you can have easy access to your favorite boards from the Control Panel.

Referrals and Oscars
If you refer people to this site and they list your username as a referee when they sign up, then you get 1 point added to your referral status. You can find this on your profile. Emma tells me that if you refer 15 people then you get an Oscar. An oscar is an award, and you can see whether people have oscars inside the threads or on their profiles. There are other ways to get oscars such as during the annual membership drive and for special events and RPGs.

Other things in your posts
You'll also notice that to the left of any post is the following:
Username - Self explanatory
Status - As above - determined by your total number of posts
Stars - Determined by your total number of posts
Then registration date, time, no of posts and no of oscars.

At the bottom of your post usually is the following:
Date and time of post.
http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/images/on.gif http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/images/off.gif - Tells whether that poster is online or offline
http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/images/profile.gif - Click to send the user a PM
http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/images/home.gif - Click to check out that person's weblink
http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/images/find.gif - Search for all posts by this person
http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/images/buddy.gif - Click to add them to your list of buddies (viewed from the Control Panel).
http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/images/edit.gif - If it's your post then you can edit it
http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/images/quote.gif - Click to make a new post quoting this post

Apart from the buttons are three text links at the bottom
Edit Sig - Self explanatory
Report this post to a Moderator - Click to nark on somebody if you think that post has broken the rules
IP: Logged - For the administrators

If there are other buttons, just hover your mouse over them to see what they do.

Signatures
You all know about signatures so I'll just quickly state what else you can do there.
* Change the color/font/size of the text
* Make text Bold, Italic or Underlined
<MARQUEE>* Make scrolling text using</MARQUEE> < MARQUEE >Scrolling Text< /MARQUEE > (no spaces between <> )

As far as images go, the easiest place to host images is Geocities but they don't allow remote linking (viewing a picture in a website that is linked to another). The way to get around that is to rename the picture with the extension .txt in Geocities. Then on here you can either insert it using the normal tags [ IMG / IMG ] or with HTML tags < IMG SRC="http://www.blahblahblah" > For some reason it only works sometimes so it's really just a hit and miss job. Other than that, it is VERY hard to find a free webhost that will allow remote linking. The ones that do only allow a certain amount of bandwidth per day so your image will appear for maybe a good 5 minutes everyday (based on the traffic that this site probably gets).

That's about all I can think of for now. Remember to use the vB Code. Things like List and Quote are really good. If you're quoting someone else's post and they have a loooong post, only quote the relevant part of their post by deleting the stuff you don't need. Just make sure the quoted part includes the opening and closing [ QUOTE ] tags.

And the biggest thing of all... If starting a new thread, do a search to see if another one has been done or see if what you want to post about can be covered in an existing thread. Remember the Everwood page only lists the threads that have been active for the past 2 days. Anything beyond that is still there, just hidden and you'll need to find it.

Since a lot of people ask about this in the questions thread, here's the info you need.

<MARQUEE>* Make scrolling text using</MARQUEE> <MARQUEE>Scrolling Text</MARQUEE>

You can also do the same with images

<MARQUEE><IMG SRC="http://www.wherever.com/image.jpg"></MARQUEE>

Hope this helps.

For future reference, if anyone needs the link to this post, it is as follows:

I have noticed that some members have sigs that are way too big.

A simple rule of thumb to follow. If members need to scroll down to get through your sig, its too big. So edit it. If the problem continues, those members with huge signatures will be getting PMs.

Please, when making continuation threads, dont number them. Also, if you are making a continuation thread, be sure to link it to the old thread, so that it is easy for members to find.

Thanks! :)
