I just saw "JOHN CARTER" (in 3D). The 3D extra price was soooo NOT worth it, but the movie as a whole wasn't bad. I am not a science fiction fan--ugh!--but I had read the book this was based on YEARS ago, liked it and decided to see it. Despite all of the negative reports about it's "failing" and poor box office, I thought it was pretty good. (I'd give it a "B+" or an 8/10. It did remind me though of another mega-budget "dud" from 1980 (which I also saw in the theater), "Flash Gordon", only NOT as campy/cheesy.
I didn't understand all of the hype about HUGO either---or the Oscar nominations. It was good---but NOT great and a little slow. I did like the 3D version of the old silent films they showed though---that was the best part for me. Last edited by Essy; 03-14-2012 at 12:33 PM. |

I saw TWO movies today---yes, I paid separate admissions and everything! Ha!
The first was "SILENT HOUSE". Avoid!!!!!! It was UTTER CRAP! It was interesting at first, but the seemingly "single, continuous shot" gimmick wears out its uniqueness quickly (especially with the auto-focus constantly trying to keep focused!). The ending is less than satisfying and cliche... You are NOT missing anything by avoiding this flick! SERIOUSLY!! F or 4/10 The 2nd flick i saw was "Journey 2: Mysterious Island". I saw it in 3-D and thought the 3D was actually okay for the most part (best 3D part was the harpoon). The movie is a cartoon--much like the first one. I was constantly perplexed as to why we had to go with stepdad Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson instead of Brendan Fraiser. That whole stepdad thing seemed sort of awkward throughout the movie--and Brendan's character was never actually mentioned. Weird. But it was brain-dead stupid fun. I enjoyed it more than i thought I would (I had really LOW expectations, especially after the first film was such a crock o' dino doodoo!). The really weird thing in this movie that distracted me was not the cheesy storyline or the seemingly queeny straight Latino man (who had a crush of sorts on Johnson) (that was ...different). It was The Rock's nipple placement. Throughout most of the film, he's in a tight t-shirt...and his nipples seem to be well below his pecs! Freaky! I'd give this a C or 7/10 |

i went and saw the 21 jump street movie today. i was a big fan of the tv series so i was kinda leary in seeing this, but decided to give it a chance. it was just ok. for some reason movies these days feel they need to say as many cuss words as possible, weather its relevant to the scene or not. and they went a little overboard with it in this. to me, the best parts of the movie was seeing the cameos from the original tv series in it. i give the movie a B-

DETENTION starring Josh Hutcherson and Dane Cook! It's insane but definitely something you have to experience. It's out in theaters now! Check out the trailer if you haven't seen it yet:
