Fred Thompson Will Declare Candidacy Next Week

Though I have not posted about it, I am now working for the California For Thompson campaign as an area coordinator. (I would have done regional, but that would have been too much work.) Anyhow, hopefully nobody will find out I posted this from the campaign, but he is suppose to formally announce his candidacy next week.

I just saw on the news that he announced that he is going to announce.

So I guess this means he has already received all the funds that he doesn't want to disclose and is now ready to submit to legitimate campaign rules.

You mean like Hillary, who had a press conference feigning ignorance about exactly where her donations where illegally coming from?

She didn't know the guy was a criminal, but don't take that as a defense.

But, the point is -- that WE know she took money from a criminal (even though, to be fair, she did give it away) because donations are tracked. Fred Thompson's donations, however, aren't something we can sift through because of this shifty practice of entering the race late.

This isn't an either/or game. You can't negate the thing Thompson did that is bad for democracy and deceptive to the American people by pointing out the bad thing that Hillary did that is bad for democracy and deceptive to the American people.

Neither of these things is acceptable.

But, at least we know who Hillary's money is coming from so we can judge her by that. We can't do the same for Thompson.

How was he being deceptive? The primaries arent even slated to start until nect year. Just because the current candidates are jumping the gun, Thompson is entering when most Presidential candidates DO enter the election.

When most candidates DID enter the election.

I'm not saying I like earlier announcements or the fact that it starts this early, but the fact is that it does, and I don't like the idea that Thompson (who we all knew WOULD run) doesn't have to announce who has given him money in this last stretch of time.

Just like this thing with Hillary, I think it is very important that we are able to keep tabs on who is giving the candidates money.

What's wrong with what Fred Thompson is doing? It's not his fault he's intelligent and his plan is working well. Though I disagree that he is intentionally waiting later to announce his candidacy because of donations, but again why does it matter? You think it's very important to keep tabs of people who are donating money? I'm sure tons of people wanted to keep "tabs" on Bill Clinton and the donating of money.

... and they should be able too!

I really don't understand why everything ends up coming down to "The Democrats do it too." Well, hell, if the Democrats do it too, then they should be called on it. We should be calling everyone on it.

I'm not blaming him for his "plan working well" or "being intelligent," what i'm saying is that at the end of the day, there are levels of deceptiveness in this type of campaigning, and I don't think that is what the American people need. These things need to be out in the open so we can make judgments based upon them, the same way I may judgments on candidates like Hillary and the places her money has been coming from.

Honestly, out of all of the candidates, I think Thompson needs donations less than anyone else. Im just happy that the Republicans finally have the candidate that they can all support and admire. Because as much as the press has tried to smear him, bringing up his personal life, no one has a bad thing to say about him...even his ex-girlfriends sing his praises and talk about what an honorable man he is.

It doesn't really matter how much he needs them, he certainly has received them, but we can't track them.

Also, I don't really see the point in announcing that you're going to announce.

... clearly Thompson has no lost votes from me, but it will concern me if we have another president who uses deceptive tactics.

"Deceptive tactics?" It's almost as if you're looking for something to knock on Thompson and that's it. If what he is doing now is deceptive, and nothing else, i can definitely live with that.

Yeah, seriously...Clinton was the king of deceptive tactics in campaigning, going all the way back to 1992. I still remember the ad...its what spurned McCain-Feingold.

I wonder if he passed on his secrets to his wife.
