Do as I say, not as I do

From USA Today:

Quote:
War between Limbaugh and Dems over his 'phony soldiers' remark escalates

We wondered on Friday whether conservative radio talk show Rush Limbaugh's comment about "phony soldiers" who oppose the Iraq War would become a controversy something like the uproar over the liberal group MoveOn.org Political Action's "General Betray Us" ad (re-read Friday's post if you need to get up-to-speed on what this is about and want to go to Limbaugh's transcript of what he said).

Well, it seems like this just might be another such controversy.

The Hill writes this morning about Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's letter to Limbaugh's bosses at Clear Channel Communications, in which the Nevada Democrat calls on Clear Channel to make Limbaugh "publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments."

On his show Monday, Limbaugh fired back at Reid -- accusing him of a smear campaign -- and then had this to say:

"What I want to do now is demand that Harry Reid come on this program and confront me like a man. Live, unedited, come on this show and let's go at it. I'm not going to allow hack politicians to lie about what I said, to cover up what they have said and done."

Meanwhile, on the floor of the Senate yesterday, Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, wondered if Limbaugh "was just high on his drugs again."

That led Limbaugh to call the senator "Tom 'Dung Heap' Harkin," and led conservative blogger/commentator Michelle Malkin to revisit claims Harkin had made about his service in the military during the Vietnam War.

There's much more likely to be said about all this, we trust.
Why is this a big deal? Its quite simple. Certain politicians had no problem seeing a certain politician maligned, or maligning our troops themselves.

But take a Conservative talk show host out of context, and there is hell to pay.

Let look at some quotes from the same Democrats:

"The War is Lost" -Harry Reed

"If I read this to you, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners." -Dick Durbin

"You think people can work all day and then pick up their kids at child care or wherever and get home and still manage to sandwich in an eight-hour vote? Well Republicans, I guess can do that. Because a lot of them have never made an honest living in their lives." -Howard Dean

"The republicans are all about suppressing votes. Two voting machines if you live in a black district, 10 voting machines if you live in a white district." -Howard Dean

Instead of saying "they did it first," how about we just say that attacks like this are always unacceptable?

Because it's not that simple. You may have your ruby-colored glasses on, and not notice it all the time, but when a conservative says something, there's always hell to pay. But liberals can say things and it falls on deaf-ears. There's a double standard and saying that "attacks like this are always unacceptable" doesn't do anything to stop them from doing so. Why doesn't it do anything? Because conservatives are the ones constantly being attacked. Liberals on the other hand doesn't face the same thing from conservatives.

Deaf ears? Are you KIDDING me?

MoveOn was condemned by Congress for that ad.

Not officially. And yet, they are trying to pass a resolution to malign and discredit Rush.

And, moveon never printed a retraction to that ad. And now, they are trying to get Rush fired for something he never said.

Why dont you ask the soldiers who they think supports them? Or who they want to step down? Its not Rush Limbaugh.

There are soldiers who support MoveOn. This isn't black and white.

However.. "phony soldiers"... it just... makes me sick. Soldiers have the right to their own opinions about what they've experienced.

... now Limbaugh is accusing a Sgt. of being the American equivalent of a suicide bomber? It's just... disturbing.

If you ever listened to his talk show, you would know that he has the utmost respect for all soldiers, whether or not they agree with him. Try listening to his show once in awhile, Ash.

His comments are enough of him for me... in fact, too much.

If you want to provide extra context to this fake soliders filth, feel free.

He was talking about soldiers who lie about their service! Hence, "phony" soldiers. When someone claims that he was a part of atrocities being committed in Iraq, when that person never even served in Iraq, let alone graduated boot camp, he IS a phony...liar...full of ****.

You are forming an opinion on a person based on nothing. His words were taken out of context, and twisted. And yes, they were out of context. I listen to his show, I know how he feels about the military. He applauds, and supports them (whatever their feelings about the war on terror may be).

And yet no one attacks the people in this video, who said much worse:

Why should Blacks be heard? They're 12% of the population. Who the hell cares? - Rush Limbaugh

Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society. -- Rush Limbaugh

We're not sexists, we're chauvinists -- we're male chauvinist pigs, and we're happy to be because we think that's what men were destined to be. We think that's what women want. -- Rush Limbaugh

It is what he SAYS that pisses me off.

Now, I feel no need for Congress to waste time condemning him, but I will.

It's offensive.

He's this... bigot. I mean, honestly, a few crazies out there are always going to be there... I just hate that they get airtime.

See, this is just proving my point. If you ever actually listened to his show, you would know how completely untrue that is. He wouldnt be the #1 talk show host in the country if he were a bigot. And hes been doing this for a long time. He paved the way for both liberals and conservatives on the radio.

And anyone can take someone's words out of context to make them sound like something they arent.

I used to have a negative opinion of him, as well. But then I actually listened, and I learned that all the negative hype about him, was just that...hype. Its not based on reality.

There is no possible context to make some of the things he says okay.

... and I don't think being popular necessarily means he's not a bigot.
