I wanted to post this since last night, but wanted to make sure I was of stable mind before I did so. It's been 8 years and I still don't have words to describe what's in my heart and my soul regarding all the thousands of people including the first responders that lost their lives.
I'll never forget, we'll never forget, America will never forget. I thank those that gave up their lives to save others. Thank you, and may God be with you always.

Here is a poem I wrote not long after 911
War.... God Bless America "WAR" WAR As I sit here and think, of all the lives that have been lost. In this terrible act of one man. I think of all those that are on call to go out to fight. Those enlisted men and woman. All those waiting to hear if there is to be a draft. All the pain and suffering that is already going on. All the pain and suffering that will persist with this WAR. All the families already torn apart by these terrible plane crashes, fallen buildings There is so much lose already and there will be so very much more. So many husbands, wives, children, aunts, uncles and friends have already died. And so many more husbands, wives, children, aunts, uncles and friends will die because of one man. For there is no color that shall be spared. There is no American that has not been touched. We must wish all our men and woman Gods speed as they go off to this war. We can not smile as they go out the door, for we know that they may not return. We have shed many tears and will shed many more. As our men and woman go off to war................. God Bless |

This day is always hard for me. I havent posted sooner because with what is happening in the world today there is so much for me to wrap my head around.
I still remember the signs on the highway....ALL ENTRY INTO NYC SHUT DOWN. I still remember the terror I felt watching the coverage. I still remember trying to call my (now) boyfriend, (then) best friend who lived in DC...not knowing if he was still alive. I still remember the numbing fear the first time a plane flew overhead, thinking will it crash somewhere? I remember picking my brother up from high school, his grief and fear which led him to join the army and fight this evil. I still remember everything...when so many Americans have forgotten.... An ode to that day... Two Thousand One, Nine Eleven Two thousand one, nine eleven Five thousand plus arrive in heaven As they pass through the gate, Thousands more appear in wait A bearded man with stovepipe hat Steps forward saying, "Lets sit, lets chat" They settle down in seats of clouds A man named Martin shouts out proud "I have a dream!" and once he did The Newcomer said, "Your dream still lives." Groups of soldiers in blue and gray Others in khaki, and green then say "We're from Bull Run, Yorktown, the Maine" The Newcomer said, "You died not in vain." From a man on sticks one could hear "The only thing we have to fear... The Newcomer said, "We know the rest, trust us sir, we've passed that test." "Courage doesn't hide in caves You can't bury freedom, in a grave," The Newcomers had heard this voice before A distinct Yankee twang from the Hyannisport shore. A silence fell within the mist Somehow the Newcomer knew that this Meant time had come for her to say What was in the hearts of the five thousand plus that day "Back on Earth, we wrote reports, Watched our children play in sports Worked our gardens, sang our songs Went to church and clipped coupons We smiled, we laughed, we cried, we fought Unlike you, great we're not." The tall man in the stovepipe hat Stood and said, "don't talk like that! Look at your country, look and see You died for freedom, just like me!" Then, before them all appeared a scene Of rubbled streets and twisted beams Death, destruction, smoke and dust And people working just 'cause they must Hauling ash, lifting stones, Knee deep in hell But not alone. "Look! Blackman, whiteman, brownman, yellowman Side by side helping their fellow man!" So said Martin, as he watched the scene "Even from nightmares, can be born a dream." Down below three firemen raised The colors high into ashen haze The soldiers above had seen it before On Iwo Jima back in '44. The man on sticks studied everything closely Then shared his perceptions on what he saw mostly "I see pain, I see tears, I see sorrow - but I don't see fear." "You left behind husbands and wives Daughters and sons and so many lives are suffering now because of this wrong But look very closely. You're not really gone. All of those people, even those who've never met you All of their lives, they'll never forget you. Don't you see what has happened? Don't you see what you've done? You've brought them together, together as one. With that the man in the stovepipe hat said "Take my hand," and from there he led five thousand plus heroes, Newcomers to heaven On this day, two thousand one, nine eleven. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHmdbf-1veE I've been there with the soldiers, who've gone away to war. And you can bet that they remember, just what they're fighting for. They do...
