Doctor Who

I saw the very first screening of the very first episode of Doctor Who as a very young child and have never forgotten it. Growing up in the 60s & 70s my friends and I witnessed every regeneration for the first time, followed by constant repeats which were standard after-school fodder for many years. Surprisingly, with each regeneration The Doctor was different!! Had anybody watched this show?

Hi Jessy, my husband's a big fan of the original Doctor Who, though we're in the U.S. and he didn't discover it until the Tom Baker years. He's seen them all now, though. Interestingly, I probably could have watched the show when I was little; my dad was stationed in Holy Loch and we lived in Dunoon in 1970-71, but I never remember seeing the show. Maybe you can help me, though. I remember seeing a children's show and I don't know if it was a regular thing or not, but I remember this little white blobby character, rather computer generated-looking in the age before CGI, and it was kind of dancing in the air around the two human characters. This is so random, but maybe you'll recognize the description. Welcome to the Fanbolt Forums!

I'm in the US and just started watching it. I've become quite obsessed with it - so much that I plan to buy a sonic screwdriver replica flashlight. Although, I am dissapointed David Tennant is leaving the show. I hope I can like the Eleventh Doctor as much.

I think there's always a certain amount of pressure on a new Doctor, but particularly following someone who's as popular as Tennant or as Tom Baker back in his day ('70s-'80s). Some of the fan response will be based on how the regeneration goes and how well written the first story is.

I'm an old time Whovian who is really enjoying the New Who as well.

I started with Tom Baker and have watched my way through everything that hasn't been destroyed.

You'd think someone would pick up on the original series considering the popularity of the new series.

I only started watching Who in the mid 70's on the PBS station in Chicago. Fortunately, I started with Tom Baker--then began the entire series back to some to of the William H series-through Pat T, and all of John P. then again to Tom. LOVED IT. Now in Chicago we have 3 stations showing Who. BBC, Scy Fy and PBS is starting again. Comcast even has a few on Demand for a short while. Even though I own all the episodes available, I still enjoy watching it rebroadcast--the geshtalt of many of us enjoying it together.

It's just ridiculous that in this day and age they aren't showing the new episodes at the same time, or at least on the same day, everywhere in the world. You wouldn't just have the gestalt of everyone watching the show at the same time (I'm thinking of "The Last of the Time Lords" and everyone on the planet saying "Doctor, Doctor" all at once) but as soon as the show airs people are chatting about it and tweeting, and it's harder to avoid spoilers that way.
