Why good shows like Everwood are cancelled but lousy ones live on?

Hello,
When I first discovered Everwood, it took me back to a time when television used to be good. In fact, it was better than that. I don't watch much TV anymore as I am bored out of my mind with the shows. Why don't the TV producers realize that there is a need to appeal to the more intelligent level of television audience. I guess it costs a lot of money to do this but they sure hit the mark with Everwood. I can hardly remember a show that hits all levels - belief in human kind, characters you can relate to, quality of interest, good acting, wonderful, beautiful scenary, and even aan excellent soundtrack. I am in the communications business myself and could see how this show could take on several more seasons that would capture interest with just about anyone.

But let's focus on what went wrong for a minute. First of all, the show had no schedule that was reliable. One week it was on and the next week it was off. You couldn't figure out what was happening either as nothing was posted on the website. How about saying right off the bat that it was going to be biweekly and when you could plan on seeing it? And that goes for "communicating" that there was a new season. You HAVE TO COMMUNICATE THESE THINGS TO GENERATE DEMAND. These are basics in the communication field. What happened?

I guess I will have to go back to doing hikes and reading books as I don't see anything interesting or relevant on WB at the moment or any other channel for that matter.

Personally, I think shows like this are what we need in this country. The degradation of the American spirit and children values are degrading - everyone likes to watch TV. Why not help our country and our human spirit live on in a positive way? I am not a right-wing conservative either - I'm middle of the road and see strong value in this show.

That’s how I feel too about the show. I don’t watch other shows on TV constantly like I watched Everwood was hooked on it from the day they showed the commercial for it. I knew right away that I will be liking Everwood and then the Pilot came on and I was blown away by that episode it was done so good. I think that’s still one of my top favorite episodes as I know many people loved it as well.

I live in Ireland where we are only up to episode nine at the minute -- but the last two weeks have been cancelled or postponed, I don't know which because it is on the Irish language station and I don't speak Irish (from Wisconsin,,,) so I don't know if they are saying aything about it or not. Very frustrating as it is a wondeful show and a real bit of home for me. Have written all the letters and signed the petition..is there any hope for season five???

^I'm the wrong person to answer that question, since I just found out today.

On a different note, I agree with everything that has been said. Everwood got me hooked from the beginning. I just happened to watch it after 7th Heaven and it was great. It's a shame such a good show is being cancelled. I don't see why they always get rid of shows like Everwood. I really believe they just don't think people want these type of shows.
The thing I am sort of upset is that I didn't even see any of the episodes after All the Lonely People. I thought that was the finale. The schedule threw me off, like everyone said earlier.

That's what I get for leaving fanbolt for so long, though.
