S1E3 10/3 Poison Ivy episode discussion thread
Poison Ivy
WED OCTOBER 3rd "Poison Ivy" IVY WEEK EQUALS DRAMA — As the Upper East Side teens from Constance Billard and St. Jude’s prepare for a much-anticipated visit from the Ivy League representatives, Blair (Leighton Meester) uncovers a scandalous secret about Serena (Blake Lively) that may not remain a secret much longer. Dan (Penn Badgley) has his heart and future set on the coveted usher position for the Dartmouth rep, only to be beat out by Nate (Chace Crawford), who has no interest in the school despite pressure from his controlling father, The Captain (Sam Robards). Meanwhile, Jenny (Taylor Momsen) bonds with Serena’s younger brother, Eric (Connor Paolo), and Rufus (Matthew Settle) must swallow his pride and ask Lily (Kelly Rutherford) for a favor to help his son, Dan. Ed Westwick also stars. J. Miller Tobin directed the episode written by Felicia D. Henderson

I remember from the Wild Bunch Promo that was put out, there were scenes in there that didn't take place in the episode, so I'm presuming that they were taken from this episode which definately means drama, Jo!

Yeah, sadly. I think it was because of Private Practice, etc. A lot of people I know is watching it online or whatever, sadly.

This episode was sooo good! There was so much tension and the characters are starting to develop. I loved it and hope everyone watched.

Okay that was so good! And ITA I feel like I am starting to know the characters
Blair has so much depth. I love how I can be screaming at the TV about what a dumb bitch she is like at the Ivy thing and then feeling so bad for her (like at the end)... the mean act is just that, an act... she's so miserable and insecure on the inside... the final scene was so sad, it's easy to forget that Serena did more than bang Blair's boyfriend, she abandoned her best friend too Dude, hate Nate's dad, seriously wtf Blair and Chuck need to bang ASAP... that would be evil and HOT Chuck so wants Nate, what is with all the slumber parties? hmm And I think Nate wants Dan  Gossip Girl's narration totally kills the mood sometimes. Like at the end when she starts talking and kills the emotion. Someone should arrest her, she's a full blown stalker Still loving Serena, but starting to realize she's not that innocent, although I loved her Sister!Serena moment You can so tell this is Josh's show by all the family he is instituting into it... "We are still a family" , yeah ripped right from The O.C.... The Humphreys are too cute Jenny/Eric.. yay for young blonde sibling love! And Jenny sounds so similar to Willa, I close my eyes and it sounds like Kaitlin... or maybe it's just my wishful thinking I'm starting to get really involved in this show now. This episode definitely had the most character depth. Of course, I know GG will never be like The O.C. is to me, but I think this show could be more than just entertainment. I'm starting to feel the characters now.

i loved the epsiode too
it was great the dan/serena scene towards the end was so cute and the eric/jenny scene was jus too adorable

All right I’m the break it down character by character kind of girl, so that’s how I’m going to give my opinions.
Blair: What is there to say about Blair? She one of those “Love to Hate” characters for me. She does get some good lines. If I was Serena I would have slapped the shit out of her. She’s just really bitter right now and is working through her anger about Serena and Nate but also Serena leaving; as we see at the end with the letter that she never sent. Of course that doesn’t excuse any of her behavior I found amusement in her morning before the assembly scene with her talking to the maid like it was her mother, it’s kind of sad. To not have her father who from that little monologue seemed to be a big part of her life till he left, something which again is made clear by her letter. The scene between her and Eric was AMAZING! Just seeing her get put in her place was enough to make me happy. Plus you could really see that she actually despite not wanting to a moment before does care about Serena and even Eric. I know I’m not the only one that loves the strange attraction and chemistry that Blair and Chuck have. Together they’re just a perfect match of wit and thirst for vengeance. The scene in her bedroom was pretty funny. C: Admit it even for me this is good. B: If you weren’t such a perv I’m sure the CIA would hire you in a second C: Defending my country, there’s a future I never imagined B: With good reason. What is she doing there? C: Well what’s anyone doing there? It’s a facility for the disturbed or addicted B: You must have your own wing C: You don’t get nearly enough credit for your wit. So the question is what do you do now. B: I was thinking total social destruction. C: And here I thought you were getting soft. So this is your bed, huh? B: Leaving, now! C: You can repay another time Chuck: Not too much Chuck screen time but we did get to see enough of the resident evil spawn. I adore Chuck not nearly as much as I love Dan but that’s another section. Like I said above, Blaire/Chuck screen time makes me happy. I’d like to have more information on him, just to round him out. Dan: There is no character on the show that I love as much as Dan. Penn does such a good job bringing him to life. Again it’s an episode were we get to see how much of a good guy he is. Any scenes that have the Humphrey family in them are gold to me. The chemistry the three of them have is just great. Helping Nate with the Dartmouth rep was so nice, even if to Nate it didn’t really matter because he didn’t care about impressing him too much. On a side note Penn makes some of the cutest faces. D: You know I got to believe that being able to shave is a prerequisite for attending. D: Dartmouth is my dream and I've never asked Dartmouth but...I think it's been dreaming of me. That was a joke or an attempted one. Those are few favorite lines, he gets pretty good ones. Dan/Serena time can sometimes be good and sometimes I’d rather just not have it. I think it’s something I’m going to grow sick of. I see a little bit of chemistry but I don’t know and maybe it’ just me, I’m not feeling it. It could have just been this episode but who knows, only time will tell. Serena: She’s got a lot more class then I do, because I would have hurt Blair severely for the stunts she pulled in this episode. Standing up and covering for Eric was one of her finest moments thus far. I like Serena but she’s just not a character that has a lot going on in the personality department thus far. Nate: Next to being a good guy and handing Dan the Rep for Dartmouth, I also liked when he stood up to his Dad. I just wish he would have done it when he got to the park to go running with him and found the rep there. I would have flipped. Eric & Jenny: CUTE! For me that’s all that needs to be said.
