Best Gay/Lesbian Themed Movies

For those who like the genre, what are your favorites? You can do big budget like Brokeback Mountain or super indie flicks that never saw the inside of a theater.

I'll start with Y Tu Mama Tambien, and Come Undone (something Rien in french).

Let's keep it family friendly, k?

"Top Gun" with Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis (or is that too obvious?)

"A Nightmare on Elm Street 2"???

Or the remake of "Hairspray" (John Travolta in drag and married to/in love with Christopher Walken...does it get much gayer than that?

I know... NOT what you were looking for. But I just thought I'd throw them out there for fun!

Nightmare 2 is the gayest film ever - I can't believe that flew under the radar. Did you know the little pup was the pre-op Karen Black from the filmed version of 'come back to the 5 and dime, jimmy dean, jimmy dean'?

Really? Too funny--and somehow appropriate.

I'm into this genre but I love "Brokeback Mountain" Its such a great story and Heath Ledger is one of my all time favorite actor and he deserved an Oscar for this role.

The Birdcage is an excellent movie. One of my favorite comedies. I also enjoyed In & Out and I guess to an extent Philadelphia is in that vein too.

Of course brokeback and boys don't cry are classic whether that's an unintended lesbian theme or not

I recently watched a movie called "Shortbus" which was apparently released in 06'.
Well, the movie was really shocking at some scenes but over all i think it was a really fun and interesting movie.

Have you seen the director's other movie- Hedwig? (mentioned directly above). If not, catch it live on stage or the movie. i prefer it on stage.

I disagree with Hairspray being gay themed. John Travolta was portraying a woman, so the marriage between the characters was straight. The reason they got a male to portray Mrs. Turnblad was because the original had a male in the role. BTW I saw a few minutes of the original once and John Travolta pwns.

A couple of films that actually have gay couples which I enjoy are 'The Kids are Alright' and 'The Birdcage'.

I only saw 'The Birdcage' recently but Nathan Lane was amazing in the role of a drag queen who stars in his and his partner's(Robin Williams) drag club. His very feminine performance is so believable.

.
I am aware that in the original, Mrs. Turnblad was played by a man playing a woman--and I understand the casting of Travolta (a man) playing the mom to keep up the tradition of the original film and Broadway play. I was calling it a gay film because Travolta is supposed to be very "closeted". Just like my reference to "Top Gun", rumor has it that Tom Cruise is also very closeted and Kelly McGillis DID come out after "Top Gun" was made.
