Stargate SG1 - Spoilers and Rumours

Since a lot of people have extreme spoiler allergy, please make sure that anything of a spoilery nature goes in this thread.

We don't want an unsightly case of spoilage caused hives breaking out on the thread...

To kick off the new thread, I've brought this information over from the old closed Stargate thread

Gateworld has got some images from the promo for season 9 up and also some info about Ben Browders character.....

There are two images up of Ben Browder, and one of Michael Shanks (with a beard...eeek) from the first episode of season 9.

http://www.gateworld.net/news/2005/...chellland.shtml

Here's what they have to say about Ben Browders character

Quote:
SCI FI ad reveals Mitchell, Landry
The ad shows Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell (played by Ben Browder) in his dress uniform, no doubt coming face to face with the Stargate for the first time. Mitchell is also shown in the gate room with new S.G.C. commanding officer General Hank Landry (Beau Bridges).

The 10-second spot also unveiled Daniel Jackson's new look, with actor Michael Shanks now sporting a full beard.

A few more titbits about the ninth season from Gateworld

Quote:
Concrete info about Ben Browder's Stargate character have finally arrived: "He's the F-302 pilot (our Earth-designed space fighter) that led the squadron that fought Anubis in Antarctica. ["Lost City, Part 2"] He was badly injured when his fighter crashed, nearly killed -- but was was promised a place on SG-1 if he made it back to fighting form." (Executive producer Brad Wright, in an interview with the Chicago Tribune)

And this is the spoiler that's making my day

Quote:
Anderson returns for Season Nine premiere
MONDAY - MARCH 21, 2005

Richard Dean Anderson helped to make Stargate a household name, and now his character of Jack O'Neill looks to be getting a proper send-off. Anderson will appear in two episodes in the 3-part season premiere "Avalon," actor Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson") reportedly told fans at this weekend's Vulkon convention in Orlando, Florida.

"Richard's coming back to the show," Shanks said. "He has scenes in the first episode, and we're going to see him in the third episode, too. I was told that on Tuesday, I'll be shooting a scene with him." The extent of Anderson's role in these episodes is not yet known.

Shanks himself will be sporting a beard for at least the first four episodes of the new season.

With Anderson departing the cast of SG-1 this season, newcomers Ben Browder and Beau Bridges have signed up as regular cast members. Bridges will play the new commanding officer of the S.G.C. -- handpicked by O'Neill himself -- while Browder will step in as the new military leader of the flagship unit.

I'm still not too happy about it not being Sam leading SG1 ( after all, she has been the teams leader for the whole of season 8 ) but I'll trust the writers (when will I ever learn ) to make Mitchells takeover of SG1 as painless as possible.....

Now that filming has started on season 9, Information is starting to trickle in about early season episodes...

This from Gateworld

Quote:
First info on Season Nine's 'Origin'

GateWorld has obtained the first details on "Origin," an early episode of Stargate SG-1's upcoming ninth season. Written by Robert C. Cooper and directed by Brad Turner, the episode is intended to air as the third episode of the new season, closely following the 2-parter "Avalon."

Louis Gossett, Jr. will guest star as the Free Jaffa leader Gerak in the episode -- quite possibly his SG-1 debut.

Stargate Command encouters missionaries for a race of "gods" known as the Ori (pronounced "Or-eye"), and learn that the highly-evolved humans have zero tolerance for disbelievers.

After encountering a people called the Alterans, Daniel Jackson makes a mental connection with a being on the planet Celestis in another galaxy, apparently with the aid of an alien device. While there he learns of the existence of the Ori -- "fiery gods" who are served by other, mortal beings called Priors. The Ori are also served by the Doci, a being angelic in appearance, bald, and androgynous. He is a spiritual leader over the Priors who speaks with conviction and authority, and can even be used as a medium for the Ori themselves.

Daniel emphasizes to the Doci that he is an explorer and that he and his people wish to learn more about them and their culture. But the Doci tells him that it is the will of the Ori that they spread their religious message of the path to enlightenment ("Origin"). All who reject the path must be destroyed, by the will of the Ori.

Meanwhile, Lt. Colonel Mitchell visits P3X-421, where he meets another Prior of the Ori. The man preaches the path of enlightenment, and that the Ori are not to be feared. He speaks vaguely in response to Mitchell's questions, but stuns the Colonel when he tells him that they have learned about Earth and its need of "the revelation of your destiny" -- through their contact with Daniel Jackson.

The Free Jaffa leader Gerak (the former First Prime of the Goa'uld Atum) travels to Earth to meet with Teal'c and General Landry. There is tension among the leadership of the fragile Jaffa nation, and Landry pushes the importance of humans and Jaffa continuing to work together.

Back on Celestis, the Doci becomes possessed by the Ori, who speak to Daniel directly. They claim to be the creators of those people who serve them, and that all who abandon the path of enlightenment (ascension, apparently) are evil -- including the Alterans, who they say have shielded Daniel.

At Stargate Command both Daniel and Vala lay unconscious in the observation room. Drs. Lay and Lee monitor them, while Colonel Mitchell seeks help from the Prior in getting them safely disconnected from the device that is causing all of this.

Guest characters include Vala, the Doci, two Priors, Dr. Lindsay, a Jaffa named Yat'yir, Dr. Lee (Bill Dow), and Dr. Lam.

and this on episode 5

SG-1 finds 'The Powers That Be'

GateWorld has received the first plot details on "The Powers That Be," an upcoming episode of Stargate SG-1's ninth season. The episode focuses in on Vala, played by recurring guest star Claudia Black.

The team visits P8X-412, and learn that the local inhabitants once worshipped Vala as a god. The village leader, Azdak, makes it clear that he and his people have no idea that the Goa'uld have been defeated.

When Vala comes clean and confesses her past indiscretions and exploitation of these people, Azdak is furious. He intends to prosecute her -- but must halt the proceedings when a mysterious plague begins to sweep through the village. Meanwhile, SG-1 must also deal with the presence of the Ori-worshipping Priors.

Written by Robert C. Cooper and directed by Will Waring, "The Powers That Be" is currently fifth in the season's production order, and will go before cameras on April 14.

Big spoiler update...
Starting off with the 3 part season opener..

Spoilers all from Gateworld....

Quote:
AVALON, PART 1

EPISODE NUMBER - 901
ORIGINAL AIR DATE - 07.15.05

GUEST STARRING -
Richard Dean Anderson (General Jack O'Neill),
Claudia Black (Vala),
Larry Cedar (Prior),
Bill Dow (Dr. Lee),
Silya Wiggens (Therapist)

NEW! June 28 - Mid-way through the season's production, executive producer Joseph Mallozzi told fans that "Avalon, Part 1" was his favorite episode for Cameron Mitchell so far. "I remember watching the dailies and all of us being blown away by Ben's all-out commitment -- everything from the swordplay to his offhand, very funny delivery. He made Mitchell a very likable character right from the get-go."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! June 28
- "Mitchell is a military guy's military guy whereas Jack was a loose cannon of sorts. O'Neill was sarcastic and animated -- Cameron more low-key and offhand in his humor. Whereas O'Neill was occasionally abrasive and in-your-face, Mitchell prefers to let his Southern charm work its magic. Unlike O'Neill, who was often guarded, Mitchell has no compunctions about opening up. Jack was always a tough person to read, a tough nut to crack. And whereas O'Neill was sometimes, well, shall we say 'out of the loop' at times when it came to the more technical side of things, often happily so, Mitchell does his damndest to inform himself and stay informed."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! July 1 - "SG-1's newest member, Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder), arrives on his first day to find that Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), and Teal'c (Christopher Judge) have all taken on new assignments. With no one available to lead SG-1, General Hank Landry (Beau Bridges), the new head of Stargate Command, appoints a stunned Mitchell to the position.
"Complicating matters for Mitchell is the sudden return of the beautiful thief Vala (Claudia Black). Motivated, as usual, by her insatiable appetite for ill-gotten gain, Vala has come armed with a stolen tablet that she is convinced holds the secret to a buried treasure -- but she needs Daniel's expertise to decipher its message. Against his better judgment, Daniel acquiesces to Mitchell's request to meet with her.

"Unfortunately, the tablet isn't the only thing Vala has stolen. She has also brought along a bit of insurance -- two ancient bracelets that Teal'c explains were once used by the Jaffa to bind themselves to prisoners to keep them from escaping. Before he has a chance to argue, Vala clamps one of the bracelets onto Daniel's wrist and the other onto her own. When Dr. Lee (Bill Dow) is unable to remove the shackles, Jackson wearily complies with Vala's request and cracks the tablet's code. His findings lead the pair, along with Mitchell and Teal'c, on an expedition deep underground to an ancient cave.

"When they find themselves trapped below the earth, with the treasure just out of reach, another series of complicated riddles may prevent them from uncovering the treasure -- or from getting out alive!"
(Sony Pictures Television episode description)

AVALON, PART 2

EPISODE NUMBER - 902
ORIGINAL AIR DATE - 07.22.05

GUEST STARRING -
Claudia Black (Vala),
April Telek (Sallis),
Steve Park (Harrid),
Larry Cedar (Prior),
Silya Wiggens (Therapist)

NEW! June 28 - "Check out 'Avalon II' and 'Origin' in which Daniel takes center stage and 'opens up a huuuuge can of worms.'"
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! July 1 - "Still bound to one another by the Jaffa bracelets, Daniel Jackson and Vala are transported to a distant galaxy populated by worshippers of a strange and potentially threatening authority.
"During the excavation of the treasure he helped uncover, Daniel finds a set of books written by the Ancients. Besides providing evidence that the history of the highly advanced civilization may stretch even deeper back in time and even farther away, the books describe a unique device used for intergalactic communication. When the excavation crew uncovers the device, Daniel, ever eager to uncover the secrets of the Ancients and excited by the possibility of visiting galaxies beyond the realm of the Stargates, decides at once to test the machine.

"Within seconds, he and Vala -- who are still bound to one another by the Jaffa bracelets -- drop to the ground, unconscious. Alarmed, Mitchell puts them under medical supervision. However, unbeknownst to anyone on Stargate Command, Daniel and Vala have been transported to an unfamiliar village inhabited by devout worshippers of the mysterious Ori -- all-powerful and unforgiving beings who demand immediate persecution of any and all detractors.

"To make matters worse, Daniel and Vala soon discover that they have inhabited the bodies of two villagers already under scrutiny for seditious behavior. Can Daniel and Vala convince the villagers of their true identity before the people they inhabit are burned at the stake?"
(Sony Pictures Television episode description)

ORIGIN

EPISODE NUMBER - 903
ORIGINAL AIR DATE - 07.29.05

GUEST STARRING -
Louis Gossett, Jr. (Gerak),
Claudia Black (Vala),
Larry Cedar (Prior),

Steve Park (Harrid),
Gary Jones (Sergeant Harriman),
Richard Dean Anderson (General Jack O'Neill)

(GateWorld news report)

NEW! June 28
- "Check out 'Avalon II' and 'Origin' in which Daniel takes center stage and 'opens up a huuuuge can of worms.' ... I think Michael [Shanks] was terrific in the opening three-parter, but especially so in 'Origin.' We see Daniel Jackson run the emotional gamut, from flip and fun to fearful and despairing."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! June 28 - "The main story arc that will drive most of the action through the show's ninth season and (hopefully) beyond will be inextricably linked to Daniel, his past experience with the Ancients, and his experiences in the opening three-parter."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! June 28 - "O'Neill's increasing arrogance with regard to the Goa'uld developed over the many years he had to deal with them. In the case of the Mitchell character, he is the new kid on the block -- going up against the new villain on the block in the Ori. His attitude will be decidedly different."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! July 8 - "Daniel (Michael Shanks) and Vala (Claudia Black) learn that their reactivation of an Ancient communications device has inadvertently exposed Earth to the wrath of a group of unforgiving deities.
"Having barely escaped from the fanatical Ori followers and now in the custody of an Ori priest, Daniel and Vala begin to uncover the mystery of the strange beings. The Ori, who command unquestioning loyalty from their followers, claim infallibility and proclaim themselves to be the universe's only source of truth. Daniel, who still believes that the Ancients are the universe's ultimate authority, suspects that the Ori doctrine may have been fabricated from a misinterpretation of the Ancients' teachings.

"However, he is shocked to learn that the Ori are a race separate from the Ancients but rivaling them in knowledge and power. Because the Ori believe themselves to be the universe's ultimate truth, they preach that Ancient teachings are evil. For centuries, the Ancients had protected humans from the Ori -- but Daniel's reactivation of the communications device alerted the Ori to humanity's presence. Now, bent on converting all of humanity to follow its teachings, the Ori have begun sending its missionaries -- called Priors -- out to turn non-believers from the 'evil' ways of the Ancients ... by any means necessary.

"Meanwhile, back [at] Stargate Command, Teal'c (Christopher Judge) and Landry (Beau Bridges), are deep in negotiations with Gerak (Louis Gossett, Jr.), the power-hungry new Jaffa leader, regarding the structure of the new Jaffa government. Mitchell (Ben Browder) interrupts the arbitration when he returns from a visit to a distant planet -- and has brought with him a Prior whom he encountered there. Having learned that the Prior knows Daniel and Vala, Mitchell realizes that the Ancient device did indeed transport them away from the Stargate -- and hopes that the Prior may hold the key to bringing them back.

"However, when the people they inhabit are killed, Daniel and Vala's survival is at stake -- and now the crew must race against time to save them."

THE TIES THAT BIND

EPISODE NUMBER -
ORIGINAL AIR DATE -

GUEST STARRING -
Claudia Black (Vala),
Wallace Shawn (Arlos),
Michael P. Northey (Inago),
Malcolm Scott,
Morris Chapdelaine (Tenat)

Daniel Jackson and Lieutenant Colonel Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder), SG-1's new commanding officer, must go on an interplanetary scavenger hunt when Daniel learns that he and Vala have been bound together by an alien energy field. They are searching for an alien necklace that Vala once pawned off on a former friend of hers -- who now wants her dead. They are also concerned about aliens known as the Lucian Alliance.
They meet the man -- Inago, a former Jaffa warrior who now sells trinkets at an alien bazaar -- and arrange an exchange: the "worthless" necklace Vala sold him for the "worthless" power coil he sold her. First, of course, the team has to track down the power coil ...

Later, Daniel and Vala join Teal'c and new S.G.C. commander General Landry (Beau Bridges) in petitioning Senator Fisher in Washington, D.C. Authoritarian and quite pragmatic, Fischer is the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. The Senator is pleased with the fact that the Replicators, Anubis, and the Goa'uld have been effectively defeated, since the Jaffa are now free and serve their former masters no longer.

Teal'c tries to impress upon him that the Goa'uld are still a threat, since they command many human slaves. And Daniel emphasizes that there are other threats out there, including a new enemy from another galaxy: the Orii.

The Orii (who appear to play a role in Season Nine's previous episodes) are ascended beings, akin to the Ancients. Daniel apparently made first contact with them when he fell into a coma at Stargate Command and had a vision of sorts. One of the Orii "priors" (perhaps a scout) also came through the Stargate, gave a religious speech of some sort, and then burned himself to death without any apparent technology or incindiary devices. And there may be other such priors now showing up on other planets.

Nevertheless, Fisher knows that in theory the Orii can't act in our galaxy without incurring the wrath of the Ancients. He is convinced that it is now in Earth's best interest to spend its time and money building more Daedalus-class ships rather than exploring through the gate. He cuts the Stargate program's operating budget by 70 percent.
(GateWorld news report)

"As in years past, the openers plant the seeds for the rest of the season. So ... the events of 'The Ties That Bind' spin off from what happens in the three-parter -- but (in true SG-1 fashion) the episode can be considered a stand-alone."
(SG-1 executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

"Honestly -- my favorite episode to write was the last one I scripted, 'The Ties That Bind.' I like to write scripts with at least some possibility for humor. As for characters I like to write for -- Mitchell and Daniel were a blast to write for in the aforementioned episode."
(SG-1 executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

"['Avalon' and 'Origin'] are serious episodes that, like most of the stories we do, have a few light-hearted, comedic moments. Episode 4, 'The Ties That Bind,' is more of a comedic episode."
(Stargate executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! July 8 - "Daniel (Michael Shanks) and Vala (Claudia Black) embark on a series of missions in their quest to unlock the Ancient device that seems to have bound them together for eternity.
"Finally back at Stargate Command and freed from the Jaffa bracelets that linked him with Vala, Daniel eagerly resumes his research. However, moments after Vala's departure, he loses consciousness. Vala, who also became ill during their brief separation, returns at once to the S.G.C. It would appear that the bond forged between them by the bracelets was not broken upon their removal.

"Daniel convinces Vala to contact the man from whom she stole the bracelets in the hopes that he might be able to release them from their bondage. However, once again, Daniel discovers that Vala hasn't told him the entire story. The bracelets were just a pittance of what she had stolen from her mark. And before he'll help them with their shackles, Daniel and Vala will have to return all the other stolen items. But, like any good thief, Vala has already fenced the rest of the loot, so she and Daniel must embark on a series of increasingly strange missions to retrieve all the merchandise.

"Meanwhile, General Landry (Beau Bridges) is discouraged to learn that Congress has plans to severely slash the Stargate program's budget, reducing it by more than half. In the hopes that the ongoing battle with the Ori will reestablish the importance of the program in terms of global security, Landry calls upon Daniel and Vala to testify about the imminent threat that the Ori pose. However, when the group is accused of fabricating the situation, Landry worries what implications this setback will have on the future of Stargate Command."
(Sony Pictures Television episode description)

THE POWERS THAT BE

EPISODE NUMBER -
ORIGINAL AIR DATE -

GUEST STARRING -
Claudia Black (Vala)

The team visits P8X-412, and learn that the local inhabitants once worshipped Vala as a god. The village leader, Azdak, makes it clear that he and his people have no idea that the Goa'uld have been defeated.
When Vala comes clean and confesses her past indiscretions and exploitation of these people, Azdak is furious. He intends to prosecute her -- but must halt the proceedings when a mysterious plague begins to sweep through the village. Meanwhile, SG-1 must also deal with the presence of the Ori-worshipping Priors.
(GateWorld news report)

Vala is put on trial by Azdak and the residents of P8X-412 when she confesses that years ago she manipulated them into worshipping her as a god and tending to her every whim. The final verdict of the "Mal Doran" will be rendered by a general vote of the people. The accusations are read: Mass murder, torture, forced labor ...
Daniel helps to defend her, and Vala tells them that until four years ago she was host to the Goa'uld Qetesh. (There was apparently some truth to the story about her past that she told Daniel in "Prometheus Unbound.") Azdak reluctantly accepts that she was not in control of her actions while she was a host -- but points out that she continued to manipulate them after she was freed. After the Goa'uld was gone Vala found herself on her throne, and took advantage of it. The planet was rich in naquadah, gold, food, weapons, and more -- a smuggler's dream come true.

Now, however, the people of P8X-412 live in poverty. Their planet has been stripped of its resources. And they are looking to the Ori Priors for their salvation.

This is why Vala has chosen to tell the truth about her past, Daniel argues: to stop them from making the same mistake twice and hand over their allegiance and their worship to those who would use them for their own ends.

Meanwhile, Daniel also considers just what the Ori's motives could be. They're from another galaxy, they're ascended beings ... why would they insist on worship and devotion to the point that they have pledged to destroy all who do not follow them? It's certainly not in sync with the other ascended beings SG-1 has met (the Ancients), who look upon mortals almost as insects.
(GateWorld news report)

"I had a blast writing my SG-1 episode this year. I had all last season to get caught up on all my SG-1 mythology. The new characters are so much fun to write for (not that the old characters aren't) -- Vala is like writer candy. You just can't go wrong with that character.
I must say, however, that this script owes a lot to the contributions Rob [Cooper] made during his pass. He's (obviously) got a better handle on writing Daniel and Teal'c than I do.

The dailies have just started to come back for this episode, and I think it's turning out to be the best SG-1 I've ever written ... cough.
(Writer Martin Gero, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! July 8
- "When Daniel (Michael Shanks) and Vala (Claudia Black) attempt to undo the teachings of the Ori on a distant planet, they and the planet's inhabitants find themselves subject to their foe's vengeful wrath.
"While waiting for the residual effects of the Jaffa bracelets to wear off, Vala convinces Daniel to pay a visit to a distant planet where she has long deceived the population by acting as their god. Shortly after they arrive, however, they learn that the planet's inhabitants have recently been subject to a visit by a Prior -- a charismatic evangelizer for the Ori -- who has been enthralling them with his ability to heal the sick.

"Daniel convinces Vala to reveal her true identity, hoping that if the people see that Vala is a false god, they might not trust the Ori to be a true god either. However, his plan backfires when the citizens, enraged by Vala's duplicity, sentence her to death.

"Mitchell (Ben Browder) and Teal'c (Christopher Judge) arrive to negotiate Vala's fate, but her chance to redeem herself arrives when a person previously healed by the Prior falls ill with a mysterious ailment. With Daniel's help, Vala is able to heal the man, dramatically weakening the Prior's influence over the people. However, the disease suddenly begins to spread with an alarming speed, killing several citizens. As chaos ensues, Daniel and Vala realize that they may have played right into an Ori trap."

(SG-1 executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

"Despite Brad's busy schedule on Atlantis, he found time to write 'Beachhead' for SG-1. Also, check out an Atlantis episode titled 'Epiphany.'"
(Stargate executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! June 28 - "In 'Beachhead,' Carter will barely have time to unpack before she's at the frontline, doing what she does best -- working on a way to help save the day."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! July 8 - "Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) returns to SG-1 to join the team on a mission to free a distant planet from the Ori's control.
"Still shaken by the effects of their last encounter, the team is distressed to learn that the Ori have set up a force field on a planet inhabited by free Jaffa. Concerned about a complete takeover of the planet and all too familiar with the Ori's dangerous power, General Landry (Beau Bridges) springs into action. He calls upon Lt. Colonel Carter (Amanda Tapping), who has developed a potent weapon that Landry is convinced can wipe out the Ori's forces if negotiation fails. With mixed emotions, Carter returns to the SG-1 team to assist in the mission.

"After several attempts at peaceful negotiation prove futile, Carter launches her weapon, the Mark IX. Unfortunately, instead of destroying the force field, detonation of the Mark IX only results in enlarging it, allowing it to nearly envelop the planet. To make matters worse, an unrelenting Gerak (Louis Gossett, Jr.) steps in and threatens to resort to violence if SG-1 is unable to save the planet from complete destruction.

"Unable to convince Gerak of the dangers of his plan and unsure of his next move, the team squabbles over a course of action. In the midst of the chaos, a level-headed Vala (Claudia Black) hatches an uncharacteristically selfless plan that will destroy the field without the use of weapons -- but she may have to sacrifice her own life in order to carry it out."

EX DEUS MACHINA

EPISODE NUMBER -
ORIGINAL AIR DATE -

GUEST STARRING - Louis Gossett, Jr. (Gerak),
Peter Flemming (Agent Malcolm Barrett),
Cliff Simon (Baal),
Ken Dresen (Alex Jameson),
Martin Christopher (Lieutenant Marks)

Lt. Colonel Carter has returned to Stargate Command. Strange things are afoot on Earth, as some prominent business executives have gone missing in recent months. SG-1 suspects that they had connections to the Trust, who were taken over by Goa'uld symbiotes ("Full Alert"). There is a very good chance that the Goa'uld are still on Earth, and they are growing in strength.
Meanwhile, relations continue to be strained between Stargate Command and the young Free Jaffa Nation. Gerak (Louis Gossett, Jr.) is something of an isolationist, and emphasizes to the Jaffa High Council the importance of not becoming reliant on the Tau'ri or the Tok'ra, as they have been reliant on the Goa'uld for so many centuries.

A fellow council member, Tebrash, points out that the efforts of the Tok'ra were instrumental in securing the freedom of the Jaffa. He is more open to the alliances they have forged. Gerak remains skeptical of the Tok'ra's intentions, though they have invited the Jaffa to a summit in the wake of the Goa'uld's defeat.

SG-1 interrupts the High Council meeting to question Gerak -- who has become something of a political foe to Teal'c. They tell him that a Jaffa, once in the service of Lord Yu, has been found dead on Earth. Tebrash believes he can shed some light on the mystery: Gerak has learned that Baal is hiding out on Earth following the defeat of Anubis ("Threads"), and -- unbeknownst to Earth -- Gerak sent Jaffa to try and capture him!
(GateWorld news report)

Guest characters include Gerak, Tebrash, and Solvar (Gerak's lieutenant).

NEW! June 21 — "[Baal is] in Earth clothes. He certainly blended in. He's not hiding out, as in he has a huge estate with body guards around him that nobody can get to. He's in plain sight. He's hiding in full view. That's a good way to put it.
"When you try to hide out the best place to hide is in your enemy's hideout, if you could. If you're looking at it from that point of view, that's the last place that they're going to look. They've got to look where they think he's going to be most comfortable. And they would never think he's going to be most comfortable on Earth, yet he is. That's what's so great about it.

"It was excellent. It's brilliant. I think one or two of the scenes, the voice won't be flanged. You'll hear my real voice. Obviously I can't talk to human beings in my actual Baal voice.

"He's actually a businessman. He's acquired a huge company and that's actually what the whole episode is about. I won't say more about that, but he's involved in business. He's acquired a huge company. He's a business man, a very high-profile business man."

Could Baal return? "I definitely think so. It's left wide open. The last line I say in the episode leaves it wide open. I'm not going to say what it is, but it leaves it completely wide open. We'll see."
("Baal" actor Cliff Simon, in an interview with GateWorld)

NEW! June 28 - "'Ex Deus' sees [Carter] in the thick of things -- reunited with an old friend."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! June 28 - "It would stand to reason that the Goa'uld have gone into hiding and are biding their time."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

NEW! July 8 - "The team intervenes when an ongoing conflict between Gerak (Louis Gossett, Jr.) and Baal (Cliff Simon) puts the United States at risk.
"When the team investigates the death of a Jaffa in a small Virginia town, they find evidence suggesting that the former Goa'uld System Lord Baal may have had a hand in the slaying. They learn that after the Jaffa defeated Baal in his attempt to take over one of their planets, he relocated to Earth, where he has been living in hiding for the past nine months.

"The Jaffa High Council is aware of Baal's presence, but has been unable to determine his exact location. The impatient Gerak (Louis Gossett, Jr.), furious to discover that Baal is still alive, sent a team of Jaffa to Earth in an attempt to locate and capture their nemesis. As evidenced by the dead Jaffa, the mission failed.

"With his presence on Earth no longer a secret, Baal has planted a bomb somewhere in the United States and threatens to detonate it if pursued. As Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Daniel (Michael Shanks) attempt to locate the bomb without attracting the attention of Baal's henchmen, Mitchell (Ben Browder), Teal'c (Christopher Judge) and Landry (Beau Bridges) attempt a diplomatic resolution, negotiating with Gerak to stop him from using force. Caught between two unpredictable foes, will the Stargate team be able to peacefully diffuse the situation before the U.S. becomes a final battleground between the Jaffa and Goa'uld?"

Counterstrike
EPISODE NUMBER - 1007
ORIGINAL U.S. AIR DATE - 08.25.06
WRITTEN BY - Joseph Mallozzi & Paul Mullie
DIRECTED BY - Andy Mikita
GUEST STARRING - Morena Baccarin (Adria), Tony Amendola (Bra'tac), Matthew Glave (Colonel Emerson), Martin Christopher (Marks)

The Jaffa take the fight to the Ori, using a genocidal weapon on their new worshippers and landing SG-1 in the middle of a war they can't control.

NEWS & SPOILERS
(Newest information is added to the bottom)

"I believe ['Counterstrike'] has been slotted for the 7 spot. Lots of good emotion in this one, bonding, and a significant loss at episode's end. I'm kind of concerned about the visual effects budget on this one and will look to trim a little in my next pass."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at his GateWorld blog)

"As I was writing 'Counterstrike,' I realized that it was a surprisingly sober outing for one particular character and wondered whether it was a little too 'down.' I honestly can't see how it can't be given the circumstances. Still, we finally get to see the inside of an Ori ship and the story affords a bonding opportunity between two characters with a rocky past."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at his GateWorld blog)

"A while ago, a fan asked whether Daniel would be telling Vala about Sha're. At the time, my response was 'it's possible' simply because the circumstances had not presented itself. Lo and behold, the proper circumstances did come along in 'Counterstrike.'"
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

"We ended up breaking episode 7 today which either Paul [Mullie] and/or I will write. This one is going to be a lot of fun. Brad said it reminded him of 'Reckoning,' and no wonder."
(Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a post at his blog)

Vala's half-Ori daughter Adria returns, now a young woman in her early 20s. As the leader of the Ori invasion fleet in our galaxy, she is now attempting to recruit new warriors into their army. Adria is resolute and frightfully dangerous, and when she encounters her mother again she pressures her to accept Origin, the Ori religion.

Adria is no longer the young girl she was when SG-1 first met her. She is cold and brutal, testing a new weapon by killing a Jaffa and then bringing him back to life in order to continue interrogating him.

Meanwhile, Bra'tac and General Landry travel to the Free Jaffa homeworld of Dakara. There they confront Se'tak, a Jaffa military leader, about his questionable tactics in the war against the followers of the Ori. But Se'tak stands by his decision to use a powerful Ancient device against their enemy, even though its use violates the Jaffa's agreement with Earth -- and will result in the deaths of millions of innocents.

Se'tak hopes that one day they will capture enough Ori ships to make a stand against the enemy, but believes that until then this great cost is acceptable to avoid the even higher cost of defeat. He has recently tested his weapon, and Landry challenges the fact that he chose a human-populated world to target, and not one of the Jaffa worlds that have capitulated to the Ori invaders.

Elsewhere, SG-1 confronts a group of Jaffa led by a man named Bo'rel. A younger warrior with a powerful presence, Bo'rel will do whatever he believes is necessary to fight the Ori threat -- and captures Teal'c and Colonel Mitchell, telling them that he intends to seize their ship. When Daniel suggests to him that the humans and Jaffa work together he refuses, declaring that his people will never be dependent on another race again.
(GateWorld news report)

Guest characters include Adria, Bra'tac (Tony Amendola), Se'tak, Bo'rel, Odyssey commander Colonel Paul Emerson (Matthew Glave), Captain Marks (Martin Christopher), a Prior, and a number of Jaffa.

On an alien world, Adria -- the "Orici" -- addresses a gathering of the newest followers of Origin, a village of humans. SG-1 hides amongst their number. Above, the Earth ship Odyssey is in orbit. But a powerful weapon is used by an unknown foe to wipe out the villagers, some 100,000 worshippers in all.

Later, Bo'rel and his Jaffa attempt to seize control of an Ori ship, but find Mitchell and Teal'c already on board. The two are captured, and Bo'rel uses the hostages to attempt to flush out the rest of SG-1, who are on board.

Adria herself soon captures Daniel and Vala, demanding that they tell her what happened to her new followers on this planet. Clearly she has powerful telepathic and telekinetic abilities, and attempts to forcibly wrestle the information from Daniel's mind. She brings back to life a Jaffa she has killed, forcing the soldier to reveal the location of the weapon that wiped out her new planet of followers: Dakara.
(GateWorld news report)

Firefly actress Morena Baccarin has been cast in the recurring role of Adria, TVGuide.com's Michael Ausiello reports. Though her Stargate character first appears as a rapidly-growing child in the season premiere, "Flesh and Blood," it is believed that Baccarin's first appearance as the adult Adria will be in "Counterstrike." The character will recur throughout the show's new season.
