CW Cancels Sunday Primetime Programming

Given the current lineup of Jericho reruns with a Sunday night movie, perhaps letting the affiliates fend for themselves isn’t so bad afterall. Plus, we don’t have to be exposed to crapfests like “Valentine” and “Easy Money”. However, this might be troubling news to those promising pilots that are in contention for this fall. Oh who am I kidding, half the pilots sound like crap already. Click here to see the pilots up for grabs this season on The CW. With only five nights of programming, there is little room for new shows, especially since the network renewed Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, 90210, America’s Next Top Model, Smallville and Supernatural. That only leaves 4 hours of programming open (assuming the bubble shows like Privileged and Reaper are gone). I think it’s safe to say the rehashed version of Melrose Place and the Gossip Girl spinoff is a safe bet. Vampire Diaries could make it too since the network is trying to milk whatever is left from the Twilight series. I do like Body Politic starring Minka Kelly and Jason Dohring. It’s the only pilot that sounds remotely promising, however, I have a feeling they might pick Beautiful Life just to target that female 18-34 audience.

Smallville Season 8 Episode 21 (Lead In) Injustice

Ever since Smallville DVD first gathered Clark, the Green Arrow, Aquaman, the Flash (or Impulse), and Cyborg together in season 6, “Justice,” we’ve been waiting for our League to return on an ongoing basis to Smallville DVD.
Unfortuantely, the creative team has only given brief glances at team ups since then. We were introduced to the likes of Black Canary, Zatana, and the Martian Manhunter. Also, we’ve seen references to the League’s return in Season 8 when Chloe brought the “Watchtower” online. But, is that enough? Hardly.
The problem is, we’ve got a ton of heroes and no villains to rival them. Outside of the Luthors, the only villain who ever really held up against Clark was Brainiac, and he’s been “deleted” as far as we can tell. Even Zod only had a short stint on Smallville DVD. I loved the episode when he took over Lex’s body, but how great would it have been had they given Zod a body and made him a looming threat?
Now, Doomsday is on the prowl, and Tess has Clark empowerment fantasies. Her goal is simple. Tess is going to make Clark man up and be the hero he needs to be, by unleashing … drum roll please… The Injustice League. Yes, the Injustice League is coming to Smallville DVD in Season 8 Episode 21. And, the injustice is really the cavalcade of non-noteworthy characters who will be on the team. We’ve seen the Toyman on Smallville DVD. We’ve seen several “versions” of would-be Metallo characters. Heck, we’ve even seen Curtis Knox, M.D., a Vandal Savage type character played by Dean Cane. None of these villains will be in the Injustice League. Instead, you’ll get Plastique and a few other no names. Sure, Plastique had her moment to shine before on Smallville DVD, so at least she’s a familiar face. But, does anyone really care about her character? Not likely.
Honestly, instead of the stunt episodes, I would be happy just seeing Clark fly. I mean Gough and Miller said Clark would never fly on Smallville DVD, but, hey, they’re gone. So, fly Boy from Krypton. We demand it. Or, at least get the courage to go out with Lois. We won’t tell Gough and Miller. Promise.
