It always amazes me how more people aren't posting here. Word of mouth is always the best way to go,that is how I found my way to fan bolt. I have tried to get people to make there way over here, but that is harder than it seems. The more people at a forum, the more fun it is. I always get frusterated when I see new people posting, and I am hoping that they will stay, and arent just doing the 10 or 20 posts needed to enter for a contest, and then we never hear from them again. Happens way to often unfortunetly. Sure, the contests are a great way to get people here, but I wish those people would realize that this place is more than just a host for contests. If they stuck around, enjoyed them selves and just posted for fun (which is what I do), they would have fun, and maybe win a prize every now and then.

General Board Ideas

Stop The Contest Snatchers aka Spammers
So many members have been joining for the simple reason of posting the minimum post or just ten or twelve more to win a contest and then skip out. I've noticed this with members I see around, congradulate them on their contest win, then I never see them again. I know Miss Emma is very busy, but maybe win a contest winner is picked, a moderator can do a quick overview of their post through 'Search For Member Posts' and make sure they're not just one word or no-nonsense posts. This will also do the double duty of stopping a lot of spammers as they realize they have to post and care to win. Maybe even add in a sentence with the contest rules that 'Posts WILL Be Monitored For Spam.

Fanbolt Monthly Giveaway
Always A Contest To Look Forward To
Random Just Like All Contests
The Prize Could Include A Tshirt & Choice Of:
Pen, Bumper Sticker Or Personalized Postcard

The Fanbolt Awards
A Yearly or Bi-Yearly Event
Best Posts, Best Signatures, Best Avatars
Best All Around, Funniest, Best Moderator, Etc.

I worked really hard on this haha! The biggest thing for me is the revamp of the Actor and Actresses sub-forums. I love those forums and all they need is actor and actress sub-forums that bring strong filmographys to the table. All of these are just ideas, but guys please give me a little feedback on what you think! This board is my home and I love it to death!

Heather thank you for all your ideas
Some of the threads you mentioned are being revamped or need to be revamped. In the past awards were given for different things.
The Mods don't know who the winners are until they post so by that time they have sent their info to Emma. But I know so many people join and win and never come back.

Awesome list Heather, can tell you spent a lot of time thinking about it

I think twighlight should be kept in the spotlight though, it is super popular, and new posters post in it, so its a good draw to try and encourage them to stick around longer. It always amazes me how these new posters just do the 10 posts needed for a contest, and never come back. I am not sure if they just don't realize that new contests are always coming, or what they are thinking, hard to tell. I wish we could somehow get it in their head, that if they stuck around and kept on posting, they could keep on applying to win contests then, and have a better shot of winning!! The contests are a huge draw for people to come and post, but I wish they would stick around and join in on the conversation. This forum has so much to offer, its super friendly, and its easy to find your way around the different parts of the site, be it headlines, or the forum part. Im not very tech savy, and I could find my way around here very quickly. Especially with the new format and layout changes that were made this summer, its a lot more eye catching.

Now about threads for all the new shows this fall (or shows in general)? If we start those and certain ones get traffic those could be rewarded with a forum of their own?

Its one thing to vote in a poll, but another to keep a thread active. If a thread for a topic has good action, why not reward them with a forum? IMO it should be about activity and not a simple vote.

Mel that is the general thing. If a show does have a large general group of members posting it does get a forum. Given that there are so many members from all over. We all don't have the same shows. Also the same shows may run in different seasons.

Polls are good given that it gives (us)the staff an Idea what shows / actors etc. You guys really want to see here, given that we are all different and into different things.

Most polls coincide with threads. So yes If a poll says we want a (ex.) Hellcats forum then the thread should also reflect the poll.

There are many requests for things and yes some may get what is asked for right away where other things may be put on a back burner. Given there are many members and (we)the staff are only so many. I promise you that even thou Emma & Maddy are both busy women. It takes time to get everything everything up so when you reply to a poll about a thread it helps. Epically if the thread coincide reflects it.

Thanks Essy for the explanation.

I was just worried that we could end up with lots of forums with hardly any postings. To me its easy to easy to just vote, but not really commit to posting in those forums you voted for.

Also I noticed that the new contests now require 20 posts or news headlines. Thats a good idea I think. Hope it helps weed out the spammers/prize hungry people who never post again.

Your welcome Mel, I am glad that this helps you as well as I am sure others understand. The concept of the poll & forum updates. It is true it is so easy to vote in the polls and not really post in the forums.

Yes the 20 post increase hopefully will help with just having people join to just win and then just disappear.

On that note there are also new Contests up.

Great ideas guys! The next couple days are a bit crazy for me but I'm going to sit down and go through these probably on Wednesday.

As far as the post count for the contests. I've been considering upping it to 50. But I'm worried we're only going to get the the short posts from the members who enter every contest with the bare minimal amount of posts.

I'm open to ideas for that though as we have about a thousand contests up right now. haha :-) Added 7 today!

People joining just to win prizes, can't really be avoided. Unfortunetly As frusterating as it is for us regular posters, who are here all the time, and love this forum. I wish there was a way to convince the posters who join, just do the bare minimum posting, to realize that if they stuck around and posted, and really got into the conversations around here, then it would up their chances of winning.

Miss Emma, that's probably unfortunately true. Upping the count may result in more spam - but it could go both ways as it may result in members not committed to posting that much no ever get up to the minimum, which is a good thing. Post quality would be my most determining factor, which you noted before you do try and check. Say for instance you have three members who are the top choices to win the contests - the way to determine who should win I think should be a quick run-through of their recent posts which can easily be done through the Search option. Another option would be to restrict members from entering contests until they have been part of the forum for 30 days - I think by the end of that 30 days, you could pretty much look at their post count and see if they are just here for the contests or if they're here for the forums too.

The great staff and fun interaction with members is my number one reason for committing to Fanbolt as I have - but yes, I am one to admit, the contests are great! To commit to something and actually get something back in return is sort of like a "Thanks for being such a Great member, we value the post and/or headline work you've done in the last weeks/months". We all know it's impossible to get anything free in the world today, so just receiving something for doing something you love is amazing - what you do is amazing!

The polls are fun! It's great to see who is interested in what and what the score gets up to. I always like doing polls - I think I'm sort of a poll fanatic. It gives me that extra boost that Miss Emma checks in and see who's voting for what too. It's fun to put a bunch of shows together in a poll and watch how it all plays out over the weeks!

I usually incorporate the fact that I am posting on Fanbolt or 'Fanbolting' in my Facebook status, plus I've put all of my contest wins in a photo album, so I'm hoping that will draw my friends in to this site that I always seem to be on haha. A lot of my friends have very stressful jobs or big families, so while I always talk about this site I love, I usually leave it up to them whether they join or not for fear that they'll be one of the horrible people who come on here and post just enough to win a contest and never come back [and deem me the referrer]. I think Facebook and social networking promotion is great since it leaves friends the choice of checking it out on their own. So I can relate GabbyLowe, some of my friends are lazy too, but most are super-busy and may be one of those horrid 'ten post' members!
