I wasn't sure I'd like this show. Sometimes the dialog in historical dramas come out with too much modern feeling attitudes and dialog. NOT that I expect that it will be the same English as in the time frame (I wouldn't like or probably be able to understand that), but some modern cliches sometimes come out.
So, my question is do you feel like this is a modern soap opera in period costume? Thanks. |

I watch illegally online, but then I get the DVDs to make up for it. It's on Showtime, by the way, not HBO. Just don't want anyone to subscribe to the wrong package.
I don't mind the modern language, it's when they rearrange history that I get irritated. Henry had two sisters. The writers eliminated one, then gave the remaining sister the other one's name. Henry's son with Elizabeth Blount was much older when he really died. Stuff like that bothers me. |

I watched it online but ended up subscribing to Showtime anways to see it. I love the costumes. I have read alot of books on Henry the eighth and his wives...I would not want to married to him thats for sure..i was bothered too about Henry's son..i guess it did not fit well in the story to go by the facts..oh well. waiting patiently for it to start again

The Tudors should go on with Henry, the son (forgot his name), a moment with Lady Jane, Mary, and then Queen Elizabeth the first. |

The guy who played Buckingham in Season One was really more like Henry VIII, physically. He was a good actor, too. I am surprised that they aren't continuing the Tudor family saga, but maybe they think there's not enough sex in the lives of Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.

The 1st two seasons were OUTSTANDING!!!!! Queen Katherine and Queen Anne were the most interesting and juicy.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But I hated Jane Seymore, too mousy. I've read the books too and I've seen some documentaries, the SHOWTIME series should end soon. Henry becomes morbidly obese, riddled with disease and impotence which is why all his subseqent wives start dropping fast. Of course, his actual proven adulterous wife, I forget her name, will be a very fun treat to watch. I hope they really play it up for the drama. ![]() The casting is okay, but the costumes & set designs are fabulous!

The Tudors is an Irish-produced historical fiction television series created by Michael Hirst. Season One of The Tudors chronicles the period of Henry VIII's reign in which his effectiveness as King is tested by international conflicts as well as political intrigue in his own court. He also has a string of affairs, and fathers a son.
