Elena Gilbert/Nina Dobrev #1 - b/c she's at war with love, good and evil
 ELENA GILBERT/ NINA DOBREV After the death of her parents, 17 year-old Elena and her brother move in with their Aunt Jenna in Mystic Falls, Virginia. As a new school year begins, Elena finds herself attracted to Stefan Salvatore, the new student at school whose bizarre behavior confuses and fascinates her. Elena is soon caught between two vampire brothers - one good, one evil - who are at war for her very soul. Elena is played by Nina Dobrev, star of "Chloe," "Fugitive Pieces," "Away From Her," and "The Poet". Dobrev has also appeared on "Degrassi: The Next Generation," "American Mall," "Eleventh Hour," and "Never Cry Werewolf".

Not that I'm totally complaining - but I'm wondering why they changed the look of Elena from the book to the tv show. They pretty much kept Stefan and Damon the same, but Elena is like the total opposite of the book.
Just a random thought that has been roaming around in my head. |

Elena, with all she went through with her parents dying and everything, and of course, who does she meet, Stefan.
 I always cracked up at that, lots of drama, but it makes for good TV. Nina is doing a great job playing Elena, and this season will be doing double duty with playing Katherine, she will be a busy girl, but Im sure she is up for it

Nina Dobrev does an excellent job portraying Elena Gilbert. I love how they kept the 'Dear Diary' from the book. The only difference is that bookwise Elena was more cocky and 'queen of the school', and it doesn't seem that much that way so far. Hopefully we will get to see some of the major changes that happen to her in the book on-screen. I think she is an amazing actress and would defenitely do a good job at portraying some of those moments. Excellent job well done in casting Elena Gilbert.

Glad you are liking Nina's acting job so far, just wait for this season when she plays both Katherine and Elena, she is gonna be a busy girl
I havent read the book, and Im actually kinda glad I saw it without reading the books, cause then I wasn't expecting anything, if that makes sense. Quite often you expect it tobe just like the book, and quite often its not. And I heard the changes they made from book to the screen, made sense and were needed, which isnt always the case.

Katherine is one of my favorite characters. I really am not sure how I feel about Nina portraying both though - but I guess she has to considering they look so much alike. I have very high expectations for the character of Katherine - her angst in the books is just so unreal and luring that on-screen it has to be something of a masterpiece! As far as some of the changes made, some I agree with and some I don't. I think the 'mysterious killings' could have been extended just a bit more - it would have brought out the emotion of Stefan and just how crazy and delirious he can become when in need for a feeding. I already miss Mrs. Flowers, Margaret, and Meredith. Only five episodes in though, so I'm hoping with Stefan's first feeding I see some of that intensity come out.

I just created a thread for Katherine, just so we had a place to talk about all she does in season 2, Im sure it will be plenty to keep us talking.
Not that we need any encouragement I was nervous at first, with the idea of her playing both roles, but after rewatching it this summer, I am convinced Nina can handle it

The scene between them in the last episode was touching. I really want to see Damon and Elena together. :-)
