haha i think matt is so awesome in the books so i'm actually pretty glad he gets his own spot in this cause he's an awesome character. he's not too selfish and from i've seen he's always caring and worrying about someone else

I wasn't a fan of Matt in the books at all. The All American guy with not much of a background isn't really interesting at all in type in small print. Amazingly though, it's much more interesting on screen when you throw in a bit more drama. I'm happy with who they chose to play Matt...I thought it fit perfectly with his book character.
Matt's family makes for an interesting background. For one, Vicky Donovan, Matt's sister, was the first big loss we experienced on the show. I still wish Vicky would have stuck around. Then, to find out that his mom and Vicky were just alike made me feel so bad for him - he basically takes care of himself. I think as the show progresses, Matt is going to get in on all the supernatural action. There's no way producers can avoid it after a certain point. Possibly the only reason he is still getting so much screen time is because of his on/off relationship with Caroline. The break-up will definitely give him a bit more screen time, but there's got to be something to keep him getting time after the break-up storm has come to a calm. I personally hope someone new comes to town and steals Matt's heart. That newbie could turn out to be a vampire with a heart, like Anna was to Jeremy, who either turns him [causing Caroline a love triangle yet again since she won't have to hide anymore], or tells him everything [in which he becomes a helped like Jeremy]. Though I can't really find a meaning, I think Matt's place on the show is key to keep some audiences interested. Who knows, maybe Tyler will break down and tell him everything. Something big is coming up after that knock on Caroline's door...only to find Tyler there too...

yeah i like his character better on the show then i did in the books. i really hope the writers continue to give him more of a storyline. more matt screen time the better

I do not miss Vicky. I felt bad for her that she couldn't clean herself up, but thats about it. Maybe if given the chance she would have cleaned up in a few years or something, but it was her own destruction that killed her, if she wouldn't have been such a druggie, she wouldn't have been such a easy target to Damian. I felt bad for matt, for having to go through all that, with his mom, and Vicki. He didn't deserve that. Can't help the family that you get though.

man i feel bad for matt. he deserves someone better. someone that can be there for him and be totally honest with. i love caroline but since she cant tell him that she is a vampire i dont see thier relationship ever being able to work out

Matt and Caroline were so cute up until the reveal. Not gonna lie though, I totally forgot Vicki even existed until Matt started yelling about her.
 Kind of like Jenna, if she isn't around then I forget she's on the show.At first I thought Caroline or someone would end up having to compel Matt to forget what he learned, but didn't Elena give him something with vervain to protect him? Or am I remembering wrong? At least Matt is actually getting something to do besides wipe down tables. |
