Well I don't have any questions, but I have a few tips. I am not a pro, or claim to be some kinda expert, but it may be some useful advise to some folks.
1. It is always a good idea to have two browser when you are coding a layout. More and more now a days folks are using browsers like Mozilla and Opera, and I can tell you from experience - your site may look kick ass in IE, but the folks that view it in other browsers get this big mess of a site that is not too appealing to the eyes. 2. Learn to code correctly! I cannot stress this enough. IE will let you get away with minor mistakes and still show your site the right way, but other browsers are picky and need you to be accurate. This is stuff you need to know especially if you decide to run fanlistings or fansites. 3. if you know how to, validate your site ...validators are your friend! They have them for html and css and it will tell you if you are coding correctly. Believe me, it is a big eye opener to see how many mistakes you are actually making. 4. Get creative with your layouts. Try not to use the same style over and over. And if everyone in your little clique has simiar ones, change yours it up a bit. I can't tell you how many times I have visited someone's site, check out their buddies and thought "Damn these folks all have the same frigging layout, all they did was change the banner." I know coming up with layout ideas is not the easiest thing to do, but you can always find ways to make do. 5. css is your friend...php (if you can use it) is your friend...check them out! I have a whole bunch of tips (ok they are more like rants but that is neither here or there)

Kitty is absolutely right. I see beautifully designed sites however because of the browser I might be using at the time the design is that much ruined. However all that can be avoided if you know what your site looks like on other browsers before you upload or publish your page.
Download: 1. Mozilla Fire Fox :: Link 2. Opera Web Browser :: Link And I know alot of you have had Kitty fix your sites so I'd take a moment to take in what she's suggesting. For I, myself, consider her as my geek Queen. Last edited by Julie; 04-13-2006 at 02:03 AM. |

Does anyone know any good sites for helping out with learning tables? I really want to learn, as it's like, the big step I need to take here to actually move up a bit in web design. I've tried a couple of times, and I just don't understand it. If anyone has any suggestions or anything, any help is appreciated.

quick and dirty tables are really, really ugly to work with.
the first thing you need is the table properties. <table width="100" height="100" border="1" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1"> width & height can be either % (as in it's this percent of the page eg width="50%" would be 1/2 of your page width) or pixels (width="100" would be exactly 100 px wide). border is the outline. if you chose border="0" the border will be invisible. border="5" would be a really thick border. cellpadding and cellspacing are how far apart each cell is. if you make it small or 0 everything in the table will be smushed. if you make the number large (like 5+) they will be spaced pretty far apart. next part is the harder stuff, which is the dreaded <tr><td> <tr> = table row. every time you want the table to go to the next line you're going to have to do a <tr>. a <td> goes in the middle of the <tr></tr> codes. how many <td>s you have determines how many boxes go in a row. for exaple <tr><td>x</td><td>x</td><td>x</td></tr> <tr><td>x</td></tr> would give you x x x x hopefully that makes some sense. if you need more just ask for specifics.
