I definately think that if Mr. Gold had love in his life he would soften. First of all, he started out good and second of all we saw what it was like for him to have found love (with Belle) and soften. But then again he had a family he loved (his son) and he threw that away. It is a 50/50 chance then if he would soften or not. I think that Belle could get him to turn back to goodness since he sees how lonely it is to be evil.
