The Bay Bridge Series has become an annual affair for the Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants. Debates have been sparked for years on sports talk radio as well as in bars and living rooms across the Bay Area. Which team is really better? The debate has never been settled but when the two teams meet head to head every year for an inter league three game series the arguing stops, for a night at least.

This year was a little different than previous match ups. It's the twentieth anniversary of the unforgettable 1989 World Series. Many that grew up in the Bay Area remember it for the massive earthquake that interrupted the Series and threw both cities into chaos. A's fans remember it for the quick work the A's made of the Giants, sweeping them in four games. Whatever the case may be, the Giants brought back the 89 pennant wining team for a special pre game ceremony.

It was a bitter sweet moment as current Giants third baseman Juan Uribe made his way onto the field to pay tribute to the late Jose Uribe. The sell out crowd was on its feet as the retired players paid tribute to one of the most popular Giants of all time. Roger Craig took to the podium to say a few words, as did Mike Krukow and Dave Dravecky. Both Will Clark and Kevin Mitchell received huge ovations as well. Throughout the game images of the 89 Giants were played and got the crowd even more fired up. The night was capped off by a Giants win.

The Giants have become known for producing spectacular events that, in some cases, over shadow the actual game. The team made sure to honor the team properly and the ceremonies and celebrations lasted all weekend long. It was truly a special night as the current Giants mingled with the 89 National League Champions in the dugout. The A's and Giants are slated to meet again, and the A's are planning a similar tribute to the 89 World Series champions. It's certainly baseball season in the Bay Area and both teams are giving fans good reason to come out to the ballpark.
