According to reports, Sony will be making a CG ‘Popeye’ film in 3D. Avi Arad will produce and Mike Jones (EvenHand) is currently in negotiations to write the script. There are no specific details on the plot, but Popeye, Olive Oyl, Bluto and Swee'Pea will all be a part of the story. The film will be made by Sony Pictures Animation, with Sony Pictures Imageworks handling the CG, the same company that is working on ‘The Smurfs’. Popeye was last on the big screen back in 1980, when Robin Williams starred as Popeye in the live action film directed by Robert Altman.
