248 Movies Are Eligible For An Oscar

248 feature films are eligible for the 2010 Academy Award for Best Picture, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

To be eligible, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by midnight, December 31, and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days. The film must have a running time of more than 40 minutes and have been exhibited in 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format.

A movie is not eligible if it received its first public showing or distribution any way other than in a theater.

Nominees will be announced on Tuesday, January 25th, at 5:30 AM PT. Winners are announced at the live broadcast on February 27th.
