‘Nurse Jackie’ picked up for second season

Showtime is giving a second season order to “Nurse Jackie” after the Edie Falco drama became Showtime’s most-watched series premiere ever Monday night.

“Jackie” was seen by 1 million viewers, then gathered another 350,000 watchers during its same-night repeat for a total of 1.35 million viewers. That surpasses the prior same-night series premiere record holder, “Secret Diary of a Call Girl,” which opened to about 950,000 viewers last year.

The season debut of “Weeds” served as lead-in, garnering a total of 1.7 million across two showings, down just a smidgen from last year (-4%).

In one of its characteristic early pickup moves, Showtime decided to order another 12 episodes of “Jackie” based on the overnight numbers. “Jackie” also scored positive reviews overall, such as this one.
