Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Super 8’ Beats ‘X-Men’


J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 scored the top spot at the box office this weekend, debuting with a $37 million gross. X-Men: First Class dropped a spot to #2 bringing in $25 million in its second week. The Hangover Part II fell to #3 in its third week with an $18.5 million gross. Kung Fu Panda 2 also slipped a spot in its third weekend, moving to #4 with $16.6 million. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides fell a spot to #5 with $10.8 million.

2. X-Men: First Class – $25 million ($98.9 million total)
3. The Hangover Part II – $18.5 million ($216.6 million total)
4. Kung Fu Panda 2 – $16.6 million ($126.9 million total)
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – $10.8 million ($208.8 million total)
6. Bridesmaids – $10.1 million ($123.9 million total)
7. Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer – $6.3 million ($6.3 million total)
8. Midnight in Paris – $6.1 million ($14.2 million total)
9. Thor – $2.4 million ($173.6 million total)
10. Fast Five – $1.7 million ($205.1 million total)

  1. I can’t say enough what a great movie this was. I know that Harry Potter will probably rival it for my favorite movie of the summer – but currently my money is on Super 8. 🙂
