Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Takes #1 Spot

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows won the #1 spot at the box office this weekend bringing in $40 million for the top spot. Opening in the #2 spot was Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, which took in $23.5 million. Opening at #3 was Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol which grossed $13 million. New Year’s Eve fell three spots to make way for the newcomers, down to #4 with $7.4 million. Jonah Hill’s The Sitter also fell three spots, ending up at #5 in its second week with $4.4 million.
