Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Underworld’ Takes #1

Underworld: Awakening topped the box office this weekend with an impressive opening take of $25.4 million for the #1 spot. Lucasfilm’s Red Tails outperformed expectations to finish at #2 in its opening weekend bringing in $19.1 million. Mark Wahlberg’s Contraband fell two spots in its second weekend to #3 with $12.2 million. The Tom Hanks/Sandra Bullock drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close had its opening weekend in wide release pulling in #10.6 million for #4. Gina Carano’s film debut in Haywire went to #5 in its opening weekend with $9 million.
