Theatrical Releases for May 4th: ‘Avengers’ Hits Theaters

Avengers, LOL and more new releases hit theaters today. Though it’s a safe assumption that Avengers is going to dominate the box office this weekend! Take a look at all of this weekend’s new releases below.

A Little Bit of Heaven (PG-13), Comedy – A woman who learns she has been stricken with cancer before meeting a new guy. Stars Kate Hudson, Lucy Punch, and Gael Garcia Bernal.

Death of a Superhero (NR), Drama – A dying 15-year-old boy draws stories of an invincible superhero as he struggles with his mortality. Stars Andy Serkis, Michael McElhatton, Sharon Horgan.

First Position (NR), Documentary – For the young dancers at the Youth America Grand Prix, one of the world’s most prestigious ballet competitions, lifelong dreams are at stake. With hundreds competing for a handful of elite scholarships and contracts, practice and discipline are paramount, and nothing short of perfection is expected. Documentary follows six young dancers as they prepare for a chance to enter the world of professional ballet, struggling through bloodied feet, near exhaustion and debilitating injuries all while navigating the drama of adolescence.

Last Call At The Oasis (NR), Documentary – A documentary about Earth’s most valuable resource, water.

LOL (PG-13), Comedy – The story centers on a teenage girl who is dumped by her more sexually experienced boyfriend while her divorcee mother struggles to move on with her life. Stars Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore, and Douglas Booth.

Meeting Evil (R), Thriller – A depressed suburban family man and recently fired realtor offers to help a stranger with his car and is sucked into a surreal, nightmarish murder spree that forces him to question everything about his life, his mode of behavior, and the very nature of evil. Stars Samuel L. Jackson, Luke Wilson, and Leslie Bibb.

The Avengers (PG-13), Action – The Avengers will bring together the super hero team of Marvel Comics characters for the first time ever, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk and more, as they are forced to band together to battle the biggest foe they’ve ever faced. Stars Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, and Jeremy Renner.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (PG-13), Drama – Follows a group of British retirees who decide to “outsource” their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past. Stars Julie Christie, Judi Dench and Tom Wilkinson.

The Perfect Family (PG-13), Comedy – Suburban supermom Eileen Cleary has been nominated for the coveted Catholic Woman of the Year Award at her local parish, and only one final test remains: introducing her family to the board for the seal of approval. Now, as she finally faces the reality of the nonconformist family she’s been glossing over for years, her meddling reaches hilarious new heights in this dysfunctional family comedy. Stars Kathleen Turner, Emily Deschanel, and Jason Ritter.

  1. Just saw Avengers Saturday night as was completely blown away. Joss Whedon should write all Marvel movies… and then direct them. 🙂
