Ryan Reynolds has officially been cast in the lead role for the Highlander remake.
Reynolds will play Connor MacLeod, a Highlander who finds out he is one of a decreasing group of immortals who kill each other in fights for the “Prize” of immortality. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) will direct and is currently in negotiations to rewrite the script. Producers include Neal Moritz and Peter Davis.
Reynolds is known for being a comedic actor after roles in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder and Waiting. He has since played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Hal Jordan in Green Lantern. He most recently starred with Denzel Washington in Safe House. He is voicing characters for two animated films from Dreamworks, The Croods and Turbo – Both will be released next year.
