Celebrating Classic Holiday Films with ‘The Holiday Movies That Made Us’

The Holiday Movies That Made Us

Just in time for the Holiday Season, Brian Volk-Weiss and his company, Nacelle, have released two new episodes from his hit running series – The Movies That Made Us. And now they are called, wait for it… The HOLIDAY Movies That Made Us.

Get it? Get it?!!

The series takes a look at the enduring appeal of modern classics while talking to some of the people involved in bringing them to the screen. This time around, two modern holiday classics, Elf and The Nightmare Before Christmas, are profiled. And boy, do these episodes pack some real emotional punch! No spoilers, don’t worry.

When picking the films to cover, Brian’s team researches just how challenging the process was from page to screen. It turns out Brian isn’t interested in the smooth sailing films such as Miracle on 34th Street. Frankly, I wouldn’t be either. Like Brian, I love rooting for the underdog, and the films chosen practically had to perform miracle after miracle to even get into the theaters. That’s the connecting factor to every film Nacelle will highlight; despite the odds stacked against the production, a miracle happened, and the film got made. It makes for good television in my book!

The episodes are packed with drama about copyright infringement (that’s in Elf), relationship drama between a couple working in the crew (that’s in ), and films that were surprise hits once they were shown to the public. I would continue, but there’s a video. Wouldn’t you rather watch than read?

Me too.

Happy Holidays!
