Juan Antonio Bayona to Direct ‘World War Z’ Sequel

Paramount and Skydance Productions have hired Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) to direct the sequel to World War Z. The first film earned $202 million domestically and $540 million worldwide. The film also had decent reviews even after the problems with the third act that required additional shooting and rewrites.

The first film starred Brad Pitt as a United Nations employee who travels the world to stop a zombie plague. The film ended with a camouflage against the dead being found to aid those escaping and fighting the zombies. The original ending had Pitt’s family being kept with a “cold-hearted army officer” as Pitt begins to storm America to fight a zombie horde.

Bayona met with Pitt, who produced the first film through Plan B and will also produce the sequel. No writers have been found at this time, but Bayona will oversee the process.
