Harry Potter New York: The Wizarding World Is Now Only a Subway Ride Away!

A few weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to visit the newly opened Harry Potter New York store with my two great friends Teresa Jack and Katerine O’Day. It holds everything a fan could ever want, and geek over, from the original Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series.

And believe me, it felt like I took a ride through the Floo Network and straight into Diagon Alley! If you thought the Flatiron District was magical before then you haven’t seen anything yet. I don’t even think Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes could hold a candle to the sheer wonder I experienced touring this store early! Well, on second thought they’re probably about even. I don’t exactly want to get on the bad side of Fred and George!

It was truly a wonderful experience being able to, in real life, see things like Fawkes hanging above the store’s entrance, the Ministry Phone Box, and even the terrifying Basilisk. There were accessories, collectibles, apparel, and even magical treats brought to life.

Everything needed to deck yourself out in your House’s colors and logo was at your disposal. Custom shirts, hats, scarfs, and everything needed to show your colors and stay warm at those mid-winter Quidditch games.

Gryffindor represent!

If that isn’t enough to make you feel powerful then you need to check out the Wand Shop where, as the name implies, you can find your very own magic wand! With the interactive options the store has, you’ll be casting your own spells to learn more about the history of magic. And if history is what you are in the market for then the book section is for you. You can find all the novels that originally brought Harry and Hogwarts to life!

After all of that magic and House representation anyone would need some refreshments. So, all you have to do is take a walk to the Butterbeer Bar. Take my word for it, it was amazing! It felt like sitting down at a table in the Three Broomsticks and decompressing after exams. That Divination exam was tough, am I right? You have your choice when it comes to Butterbeer whether that be draft, bottled, or even Butterbeer ice cream none of which you can go wrong with!

I really want to thank my amazing friends Teresa Jack and Katerine O’Day for making this experience just that much more magical. Of course I also want to thank Harry Potter New York and Warner Bros for inviting me to experience this magical world early! Be sure to check out the store yourself to get a taste of the wizard life and find the House that represents you the most. But come on… we both know its Gryffindor, right? It was a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to go back and see the new VR experiences that are opening soon. Just thinking about interacting with the world of Harry Potter is enough to get my heart pumping. Now, I really have to get back to practicing my spells if I’m going to find my Patronus before my next visit to the store!
