DVD Review: Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Get ready for the wild comedy that goes where no movie has dared go before! Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express) and Elizabeth Banks (Role Models) star as two cash-strapped roommates who try to get out of debt by making an adult film. Once the cameras start rolling, things quickly get complicated…and hilarious! Writer/Director Kevin Smith is at his funniest, backed by a motley cast, including Craig Robinson (“The Office”), Jason Mewes (Clerks films), Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard), and Brandon Routh (Superman Returns). Critics promise, “If you liked The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Superbad, you’ll love Zack and Miri” (Shawn Edwards, Fox-TV).

Review:
Zack And Miri Make A Porno delivers everything you expect it to. It’s a predictable form of humor that is reminiscent of the majority of Seth Rogen’s movies, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining. In fact it’s impossible to not fall in love with the characters.

Seth Rogen (Zack) and Elizabeth Banks (Miri) are two poor roommates who haven’t done much with their lives post-high school, as the audience quickly learns as the two attend their high school reunion… right around the block from their apartment. Finances have slowly been becoming an issue and soon the likable pair find themselves without electricity or water… in the dead of winter in Pittsburgh. After realizing that they’re out of options, Zack comes up with the idea of making a porno… a Star Wars themed porno no less. The rest is just a series laughs and mistakes that lead Zack and Miri to realizing that they care more deeply for each other than they realized.

Kevin Smith does a brilliant job as the writer and director for the film and brings together the perfect cast which also includes Justin Long (from He’s Just Not That Into You), Jason Mewes (Clerks), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), and Craig Robinson (The Office). If you’re a fan of 40-Year-Old-Virgin and Knocked Up then this is hands down your kind of film.

The Blu-ray version of the film is loaded with special features that will have you laughing long after the film ends. In fact, the ad-libbing feature alone seemed longer than the actual film and will make you admire Justin Long in a whole new light. Also included are featurettes of the making of the film, deleted scenes (so many of which should have been kept in), webisodes, Comic-Con 2008, outtakes, bloopers, and more.
