It feels like it’s been actually been 300 years since we’ve seen the Sanderson sisters! But Hocus Pocus 2 is finally happening! Disney+ has confirmed the news.

The Original Hocus Pocus

Directed by Kenny Ortega, the first film was considered a major disappointment by Disney. The movie only earned $39 million and the box office. However, as we all know, the film went on to become a Halloween cult classic with fans.

The 1993 film followed stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, who all played three sister witches who had been resurrected in Salem Massachusetts. The Sanderson sisters had one goal, becoming immortal.

The Sequel’s Story

So what do we know about the storyline of Hocus Pocus 2? If you recall how the first film ended, there’s a pretty great place to pick up from. The magic spell book winked it’s eye – proving that it’s still very much alive. This tidbit means that the witches could 100% return. And return they will!

Bette Middle noted that Disney presented them with outline for the sequel. “They presented us with an outline, and after we picked ourselves up off the floor, because it’s been 27 years, we looked at it and I think all of us agreed that it was pretty great,” Midler revealed in a recent interview.

Here’s the official description for the film:

Three young women accidentally bring back the Sanderson Sisters to modern day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world.

We’re sure there will be a number of easter eggs for fans of the original film. But there are a few things we’d really love to see….

Stick with me for a minute. What if the three young women who bring the sisters back are actually the children of Max (Omri Katz) and Allison (Vinessa Shaw)? And what if Dani (Thora Birch) makes an appearance as their fun aunt?!

Perhaps that’s too picture perfect having Max and Allison end up together. But it is Disney… so happily ever after’s (which a few hiccups along the way) are totally possible.

In all seriousness, we’d love to see some additional cast members return. Especially Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson and Binx. (Because you can’t have Hocus Pocus 2 without Binx. Bottom line).

Hocus Pocus Cast

The Production

Due to scheduling conflicts, Adam Shankman has had to hand over directing duties to longtime friend and fellow filmmaker Anne Fletcher. Shankman remains involved with the project as an executive producer.

“We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” Fletcher commented in a recent interview. “I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Jen D’Angelo has also signed on to pen the script for the film.

  1. Anything with Bette Midler is a go for me and I remember when the classic ‘Hocus Pocus’ came out. My family and I immediately loved it and it is now a tradition to watch it every year. I am not sure about a sequel so far out but we will see!

  2. I wish there were in Hocus Pocus 2 with Bette Midler: Winifred Sanderson, Sarah Jessica Parker: Sarah Sanderson, and Kathy Najimy: Mary Sanderson; the return of Omri Katz: Max Dennison, Thora Birch: Dani Dennison, Vinessa Shaw: Allison, Stephanie Faracy: Jenny Dennison, Larry Bagby: Ernie/Ice, Tobias Jelinek: Jay, Doug Jones: Billy Butcherson; and the music from the movie released in 1993 : “Main Titles” and “I put a spell on you”.

  3. I’m totally excited for the new movie! I want as much of the original cast to come back as possible! I just wish my aunt Mary were here to see this. She was a huge hocus pocus fan! 💙🙏🏻😇

  4. Me and my kids loved the first movie and now my grandchildren (9 & 7) are hooked on it too! We’ve made it a tradition to watch it every October.
I recently bought a 2 in 1 book, with the sequel, and started reading it to them. Will probably finish it by the time the movie is out. Can’t wait to see it!!!

  5. In the sequel that I read after the first Hocus Pocus Max and Allison do get married, they have one daughter and Dani is an aunt, Then the adventure begins again with their daughter and her friends. So a lot of interesting things can be done for the second move,

  6. Hey the three ladies are great actress and especially Bett Miller which I grew up watching. She is absolutely great actress next to Barbra Streisand. So yes my adult children now watched when they were little. Now my grandkids will be watching part 2. Wow. Thank you Disney for being it back.
