Can’t get enough of the western dramatics that only the Dutton family can provide? The good news is you don’t have to wait much longer. Yellowstone Season 4 is coming!

On November 7, 2021, tune in to the Paramount Network for a two hour season premiere event! We’ll be picking right where the dramatic season three finale left off.

Even though COVID pushed production back, fans aren’t to worry. The tag line for the released trailer ominously states that “Revenge Will Be Worth the Wait.”

There’s only one thing for sure; there will be hell to pay, courtesy of the Duttons that survive past the first episode.

Who will be avenged and who will take revenge? That remains to be seen.

Yellowstone Season 4 Filming

Yellowstone Season 4 has been in the works even before Season 3 premiered. Coupled with the COVID production delays, this season has been long awaited.

Originally, filming should have begun in June 2020, but to make sure all the proper safety precautions were in place, they pushed production back to late August of that year. Chief Joseph Ranch, the real property the Dutton Ranch is filmed on, announced the season 4 wrap on Instagram in November 2020.

Yellowstone Season 4 Release Date

Traditionally, the season premiere of Yellowstone hits the screen on Father’s Day weekend. The November premiere (November 7, 2021) is a far cry from that June weekend.

So what’s the hold up, partner?

Beyond COVID, there are two reasons we can determine: the Tokyo Olympics and a missing scene.

According to a Facebook page dedicated to recruiting and casting extras for TV shows, they were still shooting in June 2021: the very month it was supposed to air. There was a protest scene that could not be filmed due to snow on its original film date, so they had to reschedule.

With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics being pushed back a year, networks are rescheduling new releases so they don’t lose viewers to the athletic events premiering at the same time.

It’s hard to get the millions of viewers this show commands when it has to compete with an international, once in a lifetime event. With a November release, viewers won’t have to choose.

Yellowstone Cast

You’ll be happy to hear that rumors of lead Kevin Costner leaving the show were put to rest after an Instagram post showed him in costume on set.

Fans were worrying that Costner would not reprise his role as John Dutton. He said in a Good Day New York interview, “There’s an ending that you’re gonna see, hopefully it’s a powerful one for you. Just try to enjoy it right up to the end if you can.”

This quote, coupled with his previous statements on how he disliked that production kept him away from his family, made fans worry that the explosive ending to the season 3 finale marked the end of his journey as the Dutton patriarch.

Fans can expect to see the typical cast reprising their roles. At the very least in the first episode. Since they need to tie up the massive cliffhangers that the finale left.

We don’t know for sure who will survive the first episode. But we can be sure that Luke Grimes (Kayce), Kelly Reilly (Beth), Wes Bentley (Jamie), Cole Hauser (Rip), and Kelsey Asbille (Monica) will all be there to tie up the cliffhanger.

In addition to the classic cast, new faces will make their way onto the Dutton Ranch. Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) will play Summer Higgins. Summer is a character who seems to be the antithesis of the Duttons: a Portland environmental activist.

Additionally, Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Kathryn Kelly (Nashville), and Finn Little (Those Who Wish Me Dead) will join the cast as a CEO, a vet tech, and Rip-like young boy, respectively.

Expanding the Universe Beyond Yellowstone – The Yellowstone Spinoff

Feel like you can’t get enough of the Dutton family and all the ranch drama? The Paramount Network heard you loud and clear.

Since its premiere in 2018, Yellowstone has become the most-watched cable television series. In response, Paramount has announced that both a prequel and spinoff series are in the works!

So we can expect to dive deeper into the Dutton family origins! The prequel is titled 1883 and will give us the story of the first Duttons who made their way onto the Montana land we know so well. The series will star Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton, John Dutton’s great-grandparents.

Fans can also expect Sam Elliot and Billy Bob Thornton to make guest appearances in the new series. How long do you have to wait? Not long, 1883 will premiere on December 19.

Less is known about the spinoff, which is now only titled Yellowstone: 666. What will the prequel uncover about the family we can’t tear our eyes away from?

What parts of the Dutton universe will the spinoff focus on? Only time will tell, but you can rest assured that Yellowstone Season 4 will not be the end of the Dutton family.
