‘Kingsman 3’ and ‘The King’s Man’: Everything Fans Need To Know

Like most recent films, Kingsman fans have had to wait longer than anticipated for the next installment of their favorite British action comedy. Kingsman 3 production was delayed even before the COVID-19 pandemic, but fans waiting for the final film of the Kingsman series won’t be in the dark for much longer.

The third movie released in the Kingsman cinematic universe is not actually Kingsman 3: it’s a prequel. However, the film guarantees to give us some clues as to what lies ahead in the third movie of the original Kingsman trilogy.

Let’s take a look at what’s to come. And let’s also clear up any questions you may have on what’s next for the Kingsman agency!

The King’s Man vs. Kingsman 3

The King’s Man, set to release on December 22, 2021, is the technically third movie released about the Kingsman agency, following Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015) and Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017).

However, this is a prequel film, not an installment in the original trilogy. You’ll get an inside look at how and why the first independent spy agency formed in the first place.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll recognize the first character that enters on screen in the trailer as none other than Rasputin: the infamous mystic and confidant to the last emperor of Russia.

And if you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ll recognize the man he speaks with as none other than the Dark Lord himself. That’s right: Ralph Fiennes has joined the Kingsman cinematic universe. Not only is he one of the primary characters as the Duke of Oxford, he also acted as an executive producer for the film.

If the trailer is anything to go by, this movie will not disappoint.

The Kingsman Filming and Cast

If you’ve been looking forward to this movie since the original announcement of the stars of the movie back in September 2018, we understand your frustration. The December 22, 2021 release date is far from the first premiere date the studio has announced.

The film was originally slated for a November 15, 2019 premiere. But as with every Disney movie we’ve been waiting for, we’ve gone without the release for much longer than expected.

To give you some perspective, here was the continuously delayed release schedule:

  • November 15, 2019
  • February 14, 2020
  • September 18, 2020
  • February 26, 2021
  • August 20, 2021
  • December 22, 2021

These delays began well before the COVID-19 outbreak, so COVID can be blamed for only some of the setbacks. Even if you’ve only been waiting since the original release of the first trailer on July 15, 2019, you’ve still been waiting a while. Hopefully, nothing changes before December 22, and we finally get the Kingsman film.

Filming Began in 2019

Filming began on January 22, 2019 in the UK. During the month of April, the cast and crew made a trip to Turin and Venaria Reale to continue shooting. Ben Davis was the film’s first cinematographer, but he left the project because he was already committed to film Eternals, which hits the big screen on November 5, 2021.

Director Matthew Vaughn will take the helm once again, just as he acted as director for the first two films. The movie is based on a screenplay by Vaughn and Karl Gajdusek.

Joining Ralph Fiennes, we have Genna Arterton playing Polly. Rhys Ifans fills the role of Grigori Rasputin. Matthew Goode will play Captain Morton / The Shepherd and Tom Hollander will play George V, Wilhelm II, and Nicholas II. Harris Dickinson plays Conrad, Djimon Hounsou will appear as Shola, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be Lee Unwin.

It will be very interesting to see how the writers weave such infamous historical characters into this fictional narrative.

So When Do We Get the Kingsman 3?

Thus far, little is known about Kingsman 3. We do not yet have a release date, but the title will be Kingsman: The Blue Blood. The official cast of this Kingsman film has not been announced yet. But we can make some tentative guesses. We expect that Colin Firth as Harry Hart and Taron Egerton as Gary “Eggsy” Unwin will still star in the film.

However, characters like Mark Strong’s Merlin probably will not make a return due to the ending of The Golden Circle. But, you can never rule out some sort of twist that brings him back.

The Final Chapter

Kingsman 3 will be the final chapter in the original trilogy, but this will not be the end of Kingsman cinematic content. The comic books released from 2012 to 2018 give writers a lot more source material to pull from. And if the release of a prequel is any indication, 20th Century Studios isn’t done with developing these stories.

So while the story of Eggsy and Hart will supposedly reach its end in Blue Blood, there will be many more characters and conspiracies to explore in the future of the Kingsman franchise.
