Will Gina Carano Return for ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 4

Gina Carano in The Mandalorian

As of October 2021, The Mandalorian Season 3 has officially began filming! The Disney+ Star Wars series has been filming the new season under the working title “Buccaneer.” And while Lucasfilm executives have confirmed that Gina Carano, nor her character New Republic Marshal Cara Dune, will not be returning for the Season 3, rumors have began to surface that she may be back for The Mandalorian Season 4.

Where are the rumors coming from and are there any truth to them? Here’s what we know.

The Tweets That Started It All

After convertroversial tweets made throughout The Manadalorian Season 2, Lucasfilm, Ltd. and The Walt Disney Company made the decision to let Carano go from the hit Star Wars series. The decision caused a ripple effect on an upcoming Mandalorian spinoff, Rangers of the New Republic.

It had been announced that Carano would star in the new series. However, that title has currently been placed on hold with no additional public updates since the controversy first unfolded.

Cast Support for Gina Carano

Following the news of Carano being fired and dropped by her representation, UTA, her fellow costars stepped forward to support the actress. The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin) shared an Instragram post caption “Friendship. #ThisIsTheWay.”

As we wait for The Mandalorian Season 3 to release, unconfirmed reports online suggest that there is potential for Carano to return for Season 4 of the series. While Season 4 hasn’t been officially confirmed, Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) has teased it numerous times. The most recent tease was in an interview with People Magazine.

“We’re living in a universe that is huge and [that has] so much to explore. So I think this show is going to start to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s going to come in Season 3 and Season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers. Esposito commented.

Gina Carano Returning to The Mandalorian? Where Is the News Coming From?

So where is news coming from that Gina Carano will be returning to the series, all signs currently point to Twitter. But considering how Disney nor Lucasfilm has commented on the rumors, it is purely all speculation at the moment.

We do know, thanks to teases from Pascal, that we’ll be seeing a time jump at some point in the upcoming season.

Pedro Pascal Talks The Mandalorian Season 3

“I am told what’s happening and what the plan is, but I can’t share it,”” Pascal told Indie Wire. “They are in the expansion of this world, where there are so many unexpected surprises and timelines that are going to be dealt with.”

Pascal continued, saying, “If the character were to cross over into these worlds, it will be utilized in a way that isn’t meant to be expected. I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise of whether or not characters from the show we already know are crossing over.”

These comments provided fuel for theory that Season 3 could introduce animated series, Star War Rebels’ World Between Worlds, in a live action capacity. While details are still vague, we expect more teases and announcements on what’s to come from the Star Wars universe as we get closer to the Season 3 premiere date. Perhaps we’ll get a tease at the end of Book of Boba Fett?

And don’t forget, we also have another Mandalorian spin-off coming as well Ahsoka (which will star Rosario Dawson)

But as far as former women’s MMA and Muay Thai fighter, Gina Carano, we don’t expect we’ll be seeing the star return to the series.

  1. I was a fan of Gina Carano’s even before the Mandalorian. We let our Disney+ sub lapse soon after she was fired. I’m waiting for official word of her return before I go back.

No, I don’t agree with her politically, but who says we have to? I don’t like or watch her or anybody else for their political views.

    1. We’ll said, cancelled mine too. No matter what your view, there is this thing called the 1st Amendment. Others have posted similar stud and not been affected. Bring Gina back!

  2. Absolutely. I think the only people who would be upset are a subset of Twitter that doesn’t even watch the show. I do wish people would stop bending to the “controversial posts” narrative though. They were only controversial to that same Twitter sphere, and most of what was reported were straight up fabrications or misrepresentations. Just a bunch of twidiots projecting meaning that obviously wasn’t intended.

  3. I’d love to see Gina Carano return to the Mandalorian series. She’s my favorite action female actor and a real action star, unlike anybody else.

  4. Even if you take her somewhat irresponsible social media statements out of the equation, Carano is a truly terrible actress.
I found her wooden performance incredibly distracting way before I knew anything about her politics.
    I certainly won’t miss her.
I find her genuine popularity inexplicable but, fair enough, each to his ( or her ) own.

    1. Bring Gina back! I just found out she got fired and I’m very disappointed. She was great as a female warrior. I don’t think it would be the same without her. She is part of this franchise. I don’t think I could ever see The Mandalorian without her.

  5. She should absolutely be brought back! We’ve become far too enamored blurring the lines of reality and artistry. We’ve also come dangerously close to imitating the Empire where individual opinions are seen as divisive if they don’t mirror the wishes of the mob. Whether I or anyone else agrees or disagrees with her political views is inconsequential to her value as an actress and an integral part of this wonderful story to date.

  6. There are several actors with whom I do not agree – on opposing sides at times – yet I still enjoy their performance and ability to “suspend disbelief” with their portrayal of various characters. I will follow Ms. Carano’s career wherever it takes her as she is undoubtably one of the best at what she does. Her character in Mandlorian was one of strength, courage, loyalty, compassion and belief in oneself performed to perfection.

  7. Starwars was part of my life and childhood. But I completely cut starwars out of my life when they fired Gina, I will not go back until she does which is a huge loss I feel like I’m a family member has died. But I have to stand by my principals she has the right to say what she wants and who is Disney to silence her on her own platform.

    1. I am a Gina fan, but Disney did not silence her on her platform and has every right to fire her from working for them for what she posts on her platform. Given that, Disney bring her back. She was great.

      1. That’s correct, they DO have that right. But what they DON’T have a right to, is to disparage her intent by calling her Tweets “abhorrent” when they were nothing of the sort…that’s verging on defamation and character assassination.

      2. Her posts weren’t even close to being as offensive as what whoopi Goldberg said, on the view, live TV about Jews. The view is also under Disney, however Whoopi was not cancelled or fired. So how is this fair and what’s with the double standards? For this reason, I will not be watching Mando 3, which is such a shame cause I love it, but Disney is complete and utter bullshit.

  8. I also stopped my Disney subscription when they fired Gina. Her political or personal views have nothing to do with her work. This judgemental society is out of control. And she didn’t deserve to be fired. There have been worse things said by others who are still employed. Her character added a lot to the Mandalorian story. Her loyalty to the Mandalorian by risking her life was a great dynamic. I Know many friends that dumped Disney. If Gina was given her own spinoff about the Rangers, I Know it would be a success!

  9. Disney has become a poignant media machine and as such feel they have the right to silence there stars, not the first time they’ve done it and I doubt it will be the last, James Gunn coming to mind right now, even Gabriel Inglasias made a joke about it in his special, anything that can tarnish there “brand” is dealt with in the most diabolical of manners, Jon Fav has done wonders for Star Wars in general and I’ve been a fan since a young age, I’m avoiding anything and everything Disney related thanks in turn to this decision, I work for a media outlet company also and am also putting customers off Disney Plus, until they realise that there actors are people and have there own right to political views and freedom of speech, this is the way !!

    1. I used to work for BT (British Telecom, as it was back then!) and I started to encourage my customers to take all the free stuff, and to ditch their expensive BT services and go elsewhere, after BT massively hiked up their prices! It was only a minor rebellion as I got the boot once they found out, but it was so satisfying while it lasted that I’d do it again in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity!
That’s why I love reading about others who throw a spanner in the works at these huge companies!
And Disney are one of the worst offenders when it comes to caving in to the “woke” mobs.

  10. Gina Carano is a great actor and was a huge part in the mandalorian’s success in my opinion, honestly, she frankly proved evidence to her tweet with how the second she didn’t swing left (not even that she swung right just that she was neutral not left) in a post on social media she was shamed and punished for it. Long story short, Disney made an unnecessary and thoughtless decision when they fired her and they should reconsider and put her back in at once.

  11. The problem is she signed a contract with Disney with specific clauses. She was warned not only once but three times she was in violation of her contract. Hence she was terminated. If you don’t want to follow Disney’s rules don’t sign a contract with them.

    1. That’s nonsense. Disney have different “rules” for different people, and have chopped and changed those “rules” to suit whatever way the wind in blowing in Hollyweird that day! “Caving in to bullies being a really bad idea” is exactly what Gina was pointing out… and what was Disney’s response?
They caved in to the bullies!
      Pathetic.

  12. I cancelled my Disney service when she was snowflaked off the show. Let Whoopi make a disparaging remark about Jewish people & she gets a slap on the wrist. What does she do? Apologize? No, she threatens to quit. Go ahead. I dare you.
What Ms Carano said , that pit one population against another, & you’ll win. Biden Vax mandate sound familiar? Carano wasn’t anti- Jewish or halocaust.. She was making a truthful statement, that SJW’s fawn over & Kathleen Kennedy was afraid. Kathleen? Many Disney subscribers threw your service back in your face. Put Gina back on & maybe, just maybe, you’ll get streamers back.

  13. I’d love you see cara back. I think tweets and views are easily misinterpreted and given a chance to clarify what she was trying to say made a difference. In a world of freedom of speech, its funny how shortlived that freedom sometimes is. Bring back Cara:)

  14. Yes, of course! Bring Gina Carano back. Her character was great & was an integral part of the story. And last I checked this is still America. Folks are entitled to opinions, and are allowed to voice them. She did not say that wasn’t true, either… Woke Disney has become pretty annoying.
    #FreeSpeech #ThisIsTheWay

  15. Companies like Disney have a responsibility to stand up to Twitter bullies and the professionally “offended” who just cannot STAND the fact that others think differently than they do. And the fact that they called Gina’s views “abhorrent”, when they MUST know what she’s talking about, is what’s ACTUALLY abhorrent.
The irony is that Disney’s response is a perfect example of the “othering” that Gina was talking about!!
What Disney did to Gina is despicable.

  16. We want Gina back! Buck up and let good stars do their jobs and leave the woke politics out of it!
I agree with Anita. You keep this stupidity up and more of us will dump Disney +!

  17. Gina Carano NEEDS to return to the Mandalorian she should of bin casted for season 3.
She is an amazing actress when she was let go I lost interest in the show no other actress can replace her character in the show .

  18. Bring Gina Back. I no lomger subscribe to Disney + in part to her firing and have lost interest in season 3. Is she coming back for season 4?. One can only hope. Disney’s brand is certainly tarnished as a result of their shameless firing of Ms Carano. Many are boycotting Disney in the interim in support of this fine actress. I for one applaud such action!

  19. More of Disney trying to control what people say & do ! Disney needs to stay out of politics & personal beliefs.

  20. YES…YES…YES!!!
    PLEASE BRING GINA CARANO BACK!!
    GINA’S an EXCELLENT ACTOR!!!
WE LOVE HER and WIRKS WELL With OTER PERFORMERS!!
THANK YOU …THIS IS THE WAY♥️😊🙏❌

  21. Yes. Bring her back. I am not only boycotting Disney + but all Disney. Which includes Marvel. And I like Marvel. They have done the first step in saving their brand by getting rid of Kathleen Kennedy, the next step is to apologize to Gina. (Even if they want her back she might not come, but a public apology would suffice.)
Get your act together Disney, Walt is turning over in his grave at your mismanagement.

  22. Cara Dune , played by Gina Carano, was a much needed female character on the show .to balance the overwhelmingly male cast. She was a strong and responsible character that I could admire and identify with. To think that this beloved character was removed because Carano had a different personal opinion than someone in management seemed childish. Please write Cara Dune back into the show.
