Disney+ Pushes Ms Marvel Release Date

Ms Marvel‘s release date is being pushed. Disney+ has confirmed the delayed release in a recent earnings call.

The new series stars Iman Vellani as Marvel’s first onscreen Muslim superhero. And while the series was originally planned for late 2021, its new release date will be in good company on Disney+.

New Star Wars and Live Action Series Join Ms Marvel for 2022 Release

The streaming platform also confirmed that its new Star Wars series, Andor, and the new live-action Pinocchio remake will be releasing in 2022 as well.

“The fourth quarter will likely be more indicative of what our slate could look like, once we have tentpole content flowing steadily from all of our industry leading creative engines,” Disney CFO Christine McCarthy revealed.

“Q4 will be the first time in Disney+ history that we plan to release original content throughout the quarter from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and NatGeo, all in one quarter. This includes highly anticipated titles such as Ms Marvel, Andor and Pinocchio.” McCarthy went on to say.

During Disney+ Day, Disney announced that Ms Marvel will be premiering in Summer 2022. The news was also shared on Instagram. It sounds like the schedule has slightly moved up from what was originally announced in the recent earnings call.

Ms Marvel Plot

Ms Marvel follows 16-year-old Pakistani-American Kamala Khan, who lives in New Jersey and idolizes superheroes. She’s also a big fan of Captain Marvel. How big of a fan? She writes fan fiction – before realizing she has shape-shifting superpowers herself.

“The fact that the show is being made and they’re including this character in the MCU is [what’s important],” Vellani previously said in an interview with Variety.

Vellani went on to say, “I don’t really have to go out of my way and talk about being a Muslim and being Pakistani — it all comes out in the show. People seeing a person like me involved in a project as big as this is, I think, inspiring enough.”

Ms Marvel’s First Appearance

Long before talks of the Disney+ series were in the works, the character Kamala Khan first appeared in Captain Marvel #14 in August 2013. In 2014, she began headlining her own comic series, Ms Marvel.

However, Ms Marvel quickly expanded from the comics and appeared in the video game Marvel’s Avengers as well as the animated TV series Avengers Assemble.

The new Ms Marvel release date is expected to be sometime between June and August 2022. We’ll keep you posted as new details surface!
