DVD Review: Couples Retreat

Vince Vaughn leads an all-star cast in the laugh-out-loud comedy about eight friends whose vacation in paradise is one they’ll never forget. Their group-rate vacation comes at a price when they discover that participation in the resort’s unconventional couples therapy activities is anything but optional. Co-starring Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Faizon Love, Kristin Davis, Malin Akerman, and Kristen Bell, Couples Retreat is a hilarious party in paradise, loaded with laughter and fun!

Review:
Couples Retreat is a vacation well worth taking. The romantic comedy has a little something for the guys and the gals – a satisfying and difficult combination to find. With Valentine’s Day coming up, it’s perfect for those couples who want to stay in and snuggle up for a good movie.

The film is about a much needed vacation that goes so wrong that it actually goes right. When Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kristen Bell) inform their friends that they’re considering getting a divorce. It comes as a shock to everyone. The couple, through an elaborate PowerPoint presentation, explains to their friends that the only way they see to save their marriage is to take a trip to Eden (a resort that focuses on couple building skills). The paradise get away comes with a hefty price attached however – and Jason and Cynthia can’t afford it unless they can get the group rate – hence where their friends come in. After a little convincing, everyone gets on-board, and what happens from there on out is constant hilarity.

The cast couldn’t have been more perfect- Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Jon Favreau, Kristen Davis, and even Ken Jeong makes an appearance. The screenplay was written by Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, and Dana Fox.

When you finish the movie and discover you still want more – you’ll find some nice extra features on the Blu-ray edition. Some of the extras include: feature commentary with Peter Billingsley and writer/producer/actor Vince Vaughn, an alternate ending, gag reel, deleted/extended scenes, behind-the-scenes, and much more!

If you liked Forgetting Sarah Marshall, then you’ll love Couples Retreat. The only thing that could make it better – Russell Brand.
