DVD Review: Killers

Killers starts out with a dumped Jen (Katherine Heigl) going on vacation with her parents in the French Riviera. Doesn’t sound too glamorous does it? But it’s not frowns for long when she encounters the sexy Spencer (Ashton Kutcher) who has a career path that she may not exactly approve of. While Jen’s charming personality and stunning good-looks convince Spencer it’s time to retire and settle down – someone don’t seem to agree – thus putting a hit out on Spencer. Jen finally learns the truth about her now husband’s former job, and has to decide quickly whether or not she’s going to stay in the picture and help safe him.

Sounds serious, but it’s actually got more laughs than you would guess from the description. While there may be a couple plot holes, and some may find it a little corny in parts, it’s thoroughly enjoyable if you don’t take it too seriously. The cast has great chemistry, the jokes are mostly funny, and the guys will love the action. It’s a romantic comedy that boyfriends won’t mind seeing.

The best part of this film in my opinion was Tom Selleck and Catherine O’Hara who play Jen’s parents. They provide a subtle humor in their scenes together, and Catherine’s character’s affinity for liquor despite the hour of the day becomes a on-going gag throughout the film that will having you choking on your popcorn.

While the film was partially shot here in Atlanta, Georgia – I didn’t recognize too many landmarks. This is always something I enjoy trying to do when watching projects that filmed mere miles from our office. But no dice, I couldn’t tell you where they filmed this if I didn’t know the set locations from friends who were extras.

The special features include a behind-the-scenes look at the cast and crew, gags, and deleted/alternative scenes. Just your typical extras here – and not a whole lot of meat to them.

One other thing I have to mention. (Being a design major, I can’t help but note this.) There is something quite comical going on with the hand holding in the lower corner of the DVD case. Hmmm…. photoshopped much? I’ll leave that one to your own interpretation. 🙂

  1. I was so disappointed with this film. Two great leading characters, but not a really interesting plot. They could have defenitely made the storyline better – there were a couple good jokes though.

  2. I have seen two ads for this film now and I can’t wait to see it! Katherine Heigl is brilliant in these comedy roles and I look forward to seeing how she measured up in this one!!
