Sister Wives: “It’s Easy to Walk Away”

TLC Sister Wives

This week on Sister Wives, we’re 16 seasons into the TLC reality TV series, and we’re still not sure why these four women are with Kody Brown. And at this point, neither are they.

Most of the current season of the series was filmed back in late 2020, so it’s not as “current” as we may think. We’ve mainly been focused on the growing gap between Kody and each of his wives, Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn. And the COVID-19 procedures and protocols that Kody has put in place definitely haven’t helped that.

The wives haven’t been on the same page with all of these procedures, but does Kody seem to care? Nope. Not at all.

So this brings us around to Sunday night’s episode, which began with Robyn Brown checking in on Janelle as Janelle’s mother had passed away. Kody made it clear that no one in the family was allowed to attend the funeral, which didn’t sit right with Robyn. She apologizes to Janelle and tells her she’s been going through a bit of a mourning process during the pandemic.

“COVID has sort of pulled this blanket off of some of our issues,” Robyn reveals.

Janelle has also been reflecting on her relationship with Kody and the family. She confides in Robyn that she wasn’t sure if she still chooses plural marriage.

“Yeah, I still choose it, but I’ve had to have that conscious decision with myself.” She states.

The Choice of Plural Marriage for the Sister Wives

Most of us are not only skeptical of polygamy, but specifically skeptical of the Browns. As Kody has become increasingly challenging (and frankly horrible) for his wives to deal with.

Those that are attracted to this lifestyle generally state the concept of “support” being one of the major pluses to the relationship dynamic. You’re not just marrying a man, you’re also joining a pre-existing family that can help support you in ways that a traditional marriage might not be able to.

That “relationship dynamic” wasn’t super healthy for the Browns before COVID-19. And the pandemic certainly isn’t making it any easier for them now. They don’t really see Kody much (except for Robyn, who clearly wishes she saw less of him). And they don’t see each other as much anymore either.

Robyn still wants the family to work everything out, but is that realistic?

Janelle points out that the family has lost sight that they’re still in this together, saying, “I’ve had to really think. My children are almost grown and there’s not a huge necessity anymore to stay.”

“It was a wonderful way to raise children.” She continued, but then confessed, “With Kody and I right now, our relationship is pretty strained. And you know, it’s easy to walk away.”

So Where Do Things Stand?

As we mentioned earlier, what we’re seeing this season is over a year behind where things stand currently for the Browns. Christine actually announced her separation from Kody last November.

“I am who I am today because of polygamy, because I lived it.” She states.

True, but she sure seems a lot happier as of January 2022 not partaking in polygamy. At least that’s what social media has led us to believe.
