New movies this week are in theaters nationwide to check out!

The rom-com we have been waiting for, ‘Marry Me’ is finally here plus a murder mystery in Death on the Nile, Liam Neeson kicking butt in Blacklight and a bunch of films to check out for Valentine’s Day!

Here’s the rundown of new movies this week that are coming out in theaters, as well as those releasing on the major streaming platforms.

New Movies Coming Out The Week February 7 – 13, 2022

Marry Me

Marry Me   (2022)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: In theatres nationwide and the Peacock platform on Friday, February 11, 2022.

Summary: In Marry Me, music superstars and power couple Kat Valdez (Jennifer Lopez) and Bastian (Maluma) are about to be married in the event of the year. Seconds before the big event, Kat finds out that Bastian has cheated on her. As a result and before a live audience, Kat locks eyes with a stranger in the crowd, Charlie (Owen Wilson), and decides right then and there to marry him.

What to Watch For: This is the first live-action feature film for Colombian singing-star Maluma.

Word on the Street: The film is based on the webcomic that was turned into a graphic novel series of the same name by Bobby Crosby.

My Take: I am glad to see Jennifer Lopez back in the rom-com movie game.

Death on the Nile

Death on the Nile  (2022)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: In theatres nationwide on Friday, February 11, 2022.

Summary: Death on the Nile is about the world’s greatest detective, Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh), taking a well-deserved vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer. Unquestionably his vacation will have to be cut short when a murder occurs, and Poirot must once again go to work, finding a murderer among a wide group of travelers.

What to Watch For: The film is based on the novel of the same name by legendary mystery writer Agatha Christie.

Word on the Street: Kenneth Branagh returns as master sleuth Hercule Poirot, and the all-star cast includes Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, and Jennifer Saunders.

My Take: I love this series as Kenneth Branagh has made the role of Poirot his own.

I Want You Back

I Want You Back   (2022)

Rating: R

Release Date: On the Amazon Prime platform on Friday, February 11, 2022.

Summary: I Want You Back is about Peter (Charlie Day) and Emma (Jenny Slate), who meet by chance on a day that both of them got dumped. Therefore, they decide to become a team to get back the ‘loves of their lives’ by breaking up their old partner’s new relationships. What could go wrong?

What to Watch For: The film was shot in Savannah, GA.

Word on the Street: The cast includes Scott Eastwood, Gina Rodriguez, Manny Jacinto, Jami Gertz, and Clark Backo.

My Take: I can’t wait to see this rom-com because I have been a huge fan of Jenny Slate since her breakthrough starring role in Obvious Child (2014).

Blacklight

Blacklight   (2022)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: In theatres nationwide on Friday, February 11, 2022.

Summary: Blacklight is about Travis Block (Liam Neeson), a black op working for the F.B.I. Travis wants to retire, but before he can, he discovers a government plot targeting U.S. citizens. He sets out to right some wrongs, but now his daughter and granddaughter are in the crosshairs. They made a mistake threatening Travis’s family, a big mistake.

What to Watch For: This is the first screenplay from writer Nick May, a former U.S. Department of Justice attorney during the Obama administration.

Word on the Street: The film takes place in the U.S. but was shot in Australia.

My Take: It’s always fun to watch Liam Neeson kick some bad guys’ butts.

The Sky is Everywhere

SummaryThe Sky is Everywhere is about Lennie (Grace Kaufman), a musical prodigy high-school student. Lennie has lost her love for music because her older sister, Bailey, has died. Surprisingly, when she meets a new student, Joe (Jacques Colimon), a fellow music lover, things start looking up. However, everything gets complicated when Bailey’s grieving, devastated boyfriend Toby (Pico Alexander) shows up, and Lennie starts bonding with him.

What to Watch For: The film is based on the Young Adult best-selling novel of the same name by Jandy Nelson.

Word on the Street: Grace Kaufman is best known for her role as Kate Burns on the CBS TV series Man With a Plan that starred Matt LeBlanc.

My Take: I know this was a film that was attached to Selena Gomez for a long time, so it will be interesting to see what Grace Kaufman can do in the role.

Catch the Fair One

Release Date: In select theaters and On-Demand Friday, February 11, 2022.

Summary: Catch the Fair One is about Kaylee (Kali Reis), a boxer whose biggest fan is her sister. When Kaylee’s sister goes missing, Kaylee goes undercover in a sex trafficking operation to find out what happened to her sister and seek revenge.

What to Watch For: Kali Reis is a world champion boxer, having won titles in two different weight classes.

Word on the Street: Besides starring in the film, Kali wrote the story that the screenplay is based on.

My Take: The film has been a big hit on the film festival circuit. It won the Audience Award at both the 2021 Sidewalk Film Festival and the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.

Tall Girl 2

Tall Girl 2   (2022)

Rating: TV-PG

Release Date: On the Netflix platform Friday, February 11, 2022.

Summary: In Tall Girl 2 your favorite ‘tall girl,’ Jodi (Ava Michelle), is back! Now that Jodi has everything going for her with a boyfriend and is suddenly popular in school, it would seem that things would be great. However, being popular can cause problems, especially when the new guy (Rico Paris) in school shows an interest in you.

What to Watch For: The whole cast is back from the original film, including Angela Kinsey and Steve Zahn as Jodi’s parents, Sabrina Carpenter as Harper, Jodi’s sister, and Griffin Gluck as Jack, Jodi’s boyfriend.

Word on the Street: Before the Tall Girl film series, Ava appeared on the Dance Moms TV series, and So You Think You Can Dance.

My Take: I loved the first film, so I can’t wait to see what trouble gets into this time.

The In Between

What to Watch For: Joey King is best known for her role as Elle in The Kissing Booth film series.

Word on the Street: King was nominated for an Emmy for her role as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in the TV Mini-series The Act.

My Take: I have been a fan of Joey King since she appeared on the Hallmark Channel movie Elevator Girl starring Lacey Chabert.
