Ted Lasso Season 3

Ted Lasso never fails to offer viewers heartfelt, wholesome moments to enjoy, regardless of the stressful state of the world. So when does Ted Lasso Season 3 arrive?

Here’s everything we know about the highly anticipated season of the Apple+ show.

Ted Lasso Season 2

Ted Lasso Season 2 Recap

Before we dive into the details on Ted Lasso Season 3, let’s briefly recap the happenings of Season 2.

The TV show season begins mid-football season, with Richmond having drawn their last 7 games. As Dani goes up to kick a penalty that will win them the game, he accidentally kicks Earl, the greyhound mascot. Earl had jumped in front of the goal in order to catch a bird, and he dies from the impact. Dani can’t handle the guilt and loses his skills.

To help Dani get his groove back, the team hires sports psychologist Dr. Sharon Fieldstone. Unlike Ted, she is stern and disciplined, and she helps Dani overcome his yips.

After getting voted off the show Lust Conquers All, Jamie tries to rejoin the Richmond team. He admits to Ted that he left the soccer team to make his father angry. Ted kindly tells Jamie that he cannot return. He later changes his mind and Jamie comes back to the team. Despite Jamie’s apologies, the team refuses to forgive him for his past bullying.

Coach Roy

Ted offers Roy a chance to return to the team as a coach. Richmond fans are excited, but Assistant Coach Nate is displeased. Although AFC Richmond gets a hot streak going, Ted leaves a game while having a panic attack. He goes to Dr. Fieldstone’s office to ask for help. While he doesn’t cooperate for the first two sessions, he eventually starts to open up during the third session.

After a tough loss, Jamie gets bullied by his abusive father. Jamie finally fights back and strikes him. The encounter shakes Ted, who calls Dr. Fieldstone to admit that his father died by suicide when Ted was only 16.

Journalist Trent Crimm sends Ted a text, warning him of an article that will go live soon about Ted’s panic attacks. The team supports him when the article gets published.

We discover why Rupert, Rebecca’s ex-husband, has given her his final shares of Richmond. He bought West Ham United.

We also learn that Nate was the anonymous source that tipped off the publication on Ted’s panic attacks. He angrily shares how he feels that Ted has completely ignored all his contributions since Ted joined Richmond.

Two months later, we see that Rupert hired Nate as the newest addition to the West Ham coaching staff.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Production

Backstage at the 2021 Emmys, Jason Sudeikis revealed that Apple “asked for 12 episodes and this time, ahead of time.” The first season only had 10, but Ted Lasso Season 3 will officially match the number of episodes from Season 2.

On January 4, 2022, star and creator of Ted Lasso Brendan Hunt posted a teasing pic and caption on Instagram. It’s a selfie of him with Jason Sudeikis in the background with a plane behind them. The caption simply says, “Here we go.”

Fans heard him loud and clear. Production of Ted Lasso Season 3 would soon be underway. To confirm it wasn’t just a fun trip with a good friend, you can look at Kola Bokinni’s multiple posts on Twitter featuring himself and other Ted Lasso castmates.

The timing isn’t too unexpected. Actress Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton, announced in her December appearance on the The Late Late Show with James Cordon that production was set to begin on Valentine’s Day, 2022, which to her “is rather lovely.”

Production Should Be Finished in July 2022

Assuming that production began according to schedule, Brendan Hunt’s original schedule has production finishing in July. However, they’re starting production later than usual thanks to a “football wrinkle.” They had difficulty scheduling out when they could shoot the football scenes. Hopefully cameras start rolling before the end of February.

Back in October, The Athletic reported that producers of Ted Lasso secured a £500,000 licensing deal with the Premier League. What amounts to approximately $680,000 USD will give them access to archival footage, Premier League logos, club kits, and the actual league trophy.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Cast

Ted Lasso Season 3 Cast

As of now, all the main characters will return for Ted Lasso Season 3.

IMDB currently credits Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, Nick Mohammed as Nathan Shelley, Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Jeremy Swift as Higgins, Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt, and Juno Temple as Keeley Jones as appearing on Season 3, episode 1. It’s likely that as production gets underway, more names will get updated on the IMDB page, such as Kola Bokinni’s Isaac McAdoo. Even though he’s posted photos of himself with cast members, IMDB doesn’t yet have him listed as featured in the first episode. And some characters might be in Ted Lasso Season 3, just not in the initial episode.

Showrunner Bill Lawrence announced back in October of 2021 that Sarah Niles and James Lance will “have significant roles next year” as their characters Dr. Sharon Fieldstone and Trent Crimm.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Release Date

The first two seasons aired at the end of the summer in 2020 and 2021. As production has only just begun and isn’t slated to finish until July 2022, we can consider a summer release for Ted Lasso Season 3 as out of the question. Hunt said, “I would be surprised if our delivery dates were the same [as previous seasons]. That’s above my pay grade; I don’t know for sure, but I do have a vague understanding of the limits of this dimension we call time, and I would say it seems pretty unlikely that we would [premiere] as early this year.”

But will this be the last season of Ted Lasso? Both Sudeikis and Hunt believe it should be. Sudeikis said The story that’s being told — that three-season arc — is one that I see, know, and understood. I’m glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don’t know.” And Hunt agrees; as he sees it, the show was “always meant” to be a 3 seasons show. “I think it would be pretty cool if, in the face of how much everyone likes this show, that we stick to our guns and really just do three seasons.”

But the power of viewership numbers can easily sway a network’s decision to end a show. Who knows? Maybe Ted Lasso Season 3 won’t be the end of the story.
