Drake Net Worth

Drake

Drake is one of the most recognizable names in the hip-hop rap industry today. And he’s also by far one of the wealthiest. However, his money did not all come from his music career. It is not known to many but Drake is also quite business-minded and has gone on a number of fruitful entrepreneurial ventures over the years. Let’s take a look at his career in order to be able to estimate Drake’s net worth.

Personal Life

Drake is a Canadian rapper who was born in Toronto, Ontario on the 24th of October 1986. His mother, Sandi Graham, is a Canadian Jewish teacher and his father, Dennis Graham, is an African American musician who hails from Memphis, Tennessee. His real name is Aubrey Drake Graham.

When Drake was 5 years old, his parents got divorced and he stayed with his mother. Since his mother was part Jewish, he attended a Jewish day school where he got to have a Bar Mitzvah. He didn’t last long in school, however, since he was bullied because of his mixed background. Later on, he attended high school at the Vaughan Road Academy in Toronto.

Acting Career

Drake has made an immensely huge name for himself in the music world. But before all that, he was actually quite a popular child actor in Canada. His most notable performance was as Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian teen drama, Degrassi: The Next Generation. The series ran from 2001 to 2015. For seven seasons of the show, Drake played the part of a basketball star who was shot by a classmate and had to spend the rest of his days in a wheelchair.

Rap Music

In the seventh season of the Degrassi series, Drake got to showcase his rapping skills. He left the show soon afterward as he decided to concentrate on building a career in rap music. The first mixtape that Drake released was called “Room for Improvement” in 2006. The following year, he released the second mixtape and a couple of years later, he released his third mixtape called “So Far Gone”, which is what really secured his place in the rap music industry.

Record Labels

In 2009, Drake was already quite a successful and highly sought-after rap artist. But he was still an independent artist at this point and Drake’s net worth was just a little over $1 million. Labels were all over themselves trying to sign him. Finally, Drake signed a contract with the record label Young Money Entertainment, which was founded by rapper Lil Wayne. This deal was in fact a collaboration between Young Money and Cash Money, which is the parent organization. Universal Music Group was in charge of distribution.

In 2020, however, Lil Wayne reportedly sold all the masters of Young Money to Universal Music Group, including those of Drake and many other artists like Tyga and Nicki Minaj, for the sum of $100 million. This led to Drake becoming an independent artist.

Today, Drake releases his music under OVO Sound, which stands for October’s Very Own. This is Drake’s own record label in partnership with Warner Bros Records. He had actually started this label way back in 2012. But at the time, he still had an active contract with Young Money. He now also has ownership of all his masters, as he has stated in Certified Lover Boy.

Drake’s Net Worth: Hit Songs and Albums

In 2010, he released “Thank Me Later” which was his debut studio album. It immediately landed on the top spot on both Canadian and American Billboards. This made Drake’s net worth shoot up to $15.6 million, and this was just the beginning.

Since then, all the albums that Drake put out went on to become 4 times platinum. Even his surprise mixtape that was not previously announced, called “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late”, immediately rose to the top of the charts almost instantly after its release.

Forty-seven of Drake’s songs have been nominated for Grammy Awards, and he has won four of these nominations. In 2013, “Take Care” won Best Rap Album. In 2017, his massive hit “Hotline Bling” won in both the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song categories. His “God’s Plan” won the Grammy for Best Rap Song in 2019.

For the 2022 Grammys, Drake is supposed to be nominated in two categories. His album “Certified Lover Boy” and his song “Way 2 Sexy” are on the nominations list for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance, respectively. However, he had requested his name to be taken out of the list due to unspecified reasons.

As for the Juno Awards, which is the Canadian counterpart of the Grammys, Drake has had 33 nominations and 7 wins throughout his music career. Among his awards were New Artist of the Year when he started in 2010 and several awards for Rap Recording of the Year. He has yet to win a Juno Award for the categories of Album of the Year, Single of the Year, and Artist of the Year, although he has been consistently nominated.

Drake’s Net Worth: Real Estate

In addition to his music, Drake is also quite into real estate. He owns at least three properties in Los Angeles, including a lavish Hidden Hills mansion, also known as the Yolo Estate. However, earlier this year, Drake has just purchased a new home in Beverly Crest from Robbie Williams for a cool $70 million. Because of this, he is now selling his other properties in the area for a total of $22.2 million.

Drake also owns a $100-million home in his hometown of Toronto, in the same neighborhood as notable celebrities Celine Dion and Robert Herjavec. This house is incidentally the venue where Drake and Kanye West finally settled their feud that had been going on for several years.

Drake’s Net Worth Today

As of today, Drake’s net worth is reported to be at $180 million or thereabouts. This includes all his earnings from his music career, his real estate properties, and his many other business revenues. He also has an impressive collection of unique and customized cars. And he also owns a Boeing 767 plane that is said to be worth $185 million, which if true, would make his net worth even higher.
