Britney Spears is, without doubt, one of the most famous names in the music industry of all time. She has won Grammys, her albums have gone platinum, and to date, she has sold close to 100 million records around the world. With all her success, there is no wonder that Britney Spears’ net worth is in the millions. However, the star isn’t as worth as much as she should be.

Early Life

Born on the 2nd of December 1981 in McComb, Mississippi, Britney Spears has spent practically all her life in the limelight. Even when she was still a toddler, she was already being molded to become a star. She grew up in Kentwood, Louisiana, where as a child she attended relentless dance lessons, voice lessons, beauty pageants, and talent shows.

With such activities filling up her busy schedule, Britney’s childhood was hardly a typical one. But it was when she was 10 years old when she became champion of Star Search that the world got to witness for the first time the singing prowess of this eventual pop icon.

Personal Life

Britney Spears has dated quite a few men over the years, and perhaps the most talked-about romance was with Justin Timberlake. Britney has been married twice before she recently said I do to her current partner. The first marriage was to her childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander and it lasted just a little over two days before being annulled.

Her second ex-husband Kevin Federline, who is a singer with whom she has two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. After their divorce, the court granted full custody of the two children to Federline and ordered Britney to pay $20,000 per month in child support, plus $250,000 for Federline’s legal fees. During the course of Spears’ conservatorship, however, the former couple decided to a shared custody over the two kids.

Does Britney Spears Have a Prenup with Sam Asghari?

It was only a few days ago on June 9, 2022, that Britney and her long-time partner 28-year-old actor and personal trainer Sam Asghari got married in an intimate ceremony at their Los Angeles home. Many people are wondering, did the couple sign a prenup?

According to reports, the two did sign an ironclad prenup that protects Britney’s assets in the event of a divorce. Should they separate, both Sam and Britney will keep everything they own prior to getting married.

It was Britney’s team, as well as a number of well-meaning friends and fans, that began pressing the couple to sign a prenup soon after the engagement was announced in September 2021.

Career Beginnings

Shortly after her brief but memorable stint at Star Search, Britney joined the cast of Mickey Mouse Club, where she first worked with other future big celebrities like Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, and of course, Justin Timberlake. While being a Mouseketeer, she also did a number of stage productions, until she got signed by Jive Records at age 15.

But it was the launching of her debut album, Baby One More Time, in 1999 that catapulted her to pop fame. Almost overnight, the then 16-year-old became the most famous pop singer on the planet. The following year, she launched her second studio album, Oops!…I Did It Again, which also became one of the best-selling albums of all time. From then, there was no looking back as Britney Spears became a household name and a pop legend in the making.

Why Britney Spears’ Net Worth is Relatively Low

By no means is $60 million a small amount but when you take Britney’s stature into account, it does seem a little bit low. Why is this so? After all, from 2013 to 2017 when she was in Las Vegas, she did a total of 250 shows, reportedly earning about $350,000 per night. And way before that in 2002 alone, she brought in a total of $40 million. So the $60 million really doesn’t seem to make sense.

If you compute all that Britney has earned throughout her career spanning over two decades, she would have made more than $350 million. Britney Spears’ net worth today should be at least in the same ranks as Jennifer Lopez and other stars of similar stature, who have a celebrity net worth of well above the $100 million mark. But according to court documents, she has a net worth of not even $60 million.

According to analysts, one of the big reasons is that Britney’s father Jamie Spears was not very efficient in handling her income, which was part of his job when he was appointed as Britney’s conservator.

The Conservatorship

In the beginning of 2008, she refused to relinquish custody of her boys to Federline and was found to be under the influence of an unknown substance. Shortly thereafter, she lost custody of her children and was admitted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center’s psychiatric ward. It was then that the court decided to put her under a conservatorship controlled by her father and lawyer Andrew Wallet. These two men had full control over all of Britney’s assets.

After more than 13 years of living within the confines of the conservatorship, a judge finally ruled that it is to be terminated. It was only after the ruling that most of the public learned just what Britney had to go through during that period.

According to the pop star, she was only allowed to go out twice in the period of 4 years that she was working in Las Vegas. She wasn’t even permitted to have her IUD contraceptive removed so that she could have children with Sam Asghari, her partner of five years. Only a few days ago, finally and with the conservatorship out of the way, Britney and Sam got married in an intimate ceremony at their Los Angeles home.

The New York Times documentary, Controlling Britney Spears, goes into the shocking details of how the pop star’s life was basically like being in prison, including how the security firm hired by her father monitored her every move, and how she basically was kept from making basic decisions on her own.
